Ruined weekend

Treated myself to a bottle of Prosecco last night, it turned out to be so sweet it was undrinkable. DH bought me a replacement today, clearly marked extra dry.

Its not only too sweet it has the flavour of cardboard.

😭

Has anyone else had a similarity terrible weekend yet?

Spot on 😉

CassieRole · 30/09/2023 19:12

“Prosecco labelling isn't quite the same as wine when it comes to sweet and dry. Extra dry generally denotes sweet. If you're looking for a dry prosecco, you need a Brut.”

I did not know this (clearly) but now I do! Next weekend will be my weekend!!! 🤩

Feck off yourself

OP try a Pignoletto or a Cremant. Usually a little drier.

TiredMamOfTwo · 30/09/2023 19:12

Oh gosh how awful. I do hope you can overcome this, sending prayers.

Quittingthyme · 30/09/2023 19:13

I love a Cremant!

CantFindTheBeat · 30/09/2023 19:14

I feel sorry for you OP.

But I would personally put the Prosecco in the freezer till just before it explodes, then down the first glass quickly so my quality checker is faulty for the next three.

Good luck, I'm rooting for you!

CassieRole · 30/09/2023 19:15

Next weekend I will be buying all recommendations just in case! All I wanted was a glass of cheap fizzy stuff 😭

Sounds like covid or pregnancy to me if things taste weird!

smallshinybutton · 30/09/2023 19:16

CassieRole · 30/09/2023 19:07

Sadly they have gone down the drain, sweet wine has no place in my household!

Ahh your neighbours might have liked it?

Hun? 🙄 ia that not code for passive aggression these days love?

As opposed to aggressive aggression (‘f off’) 😂

Hey we all have those days! ♥️

My hangover curry was shit. I didn't want to wait till half 5 to order so ordered from a place I haven't tried before. £30 down the drain and even the pickles , popadoms and naan was shite. Gutted.

GymWanker · 30/09/2023 19:19

@CassieRole anf @Mojodojocasahaus these both are gutting! I’m sorry!

For me, it’s been a disaster so far. My salted butter curdled so my unicorn crumpet was rank (how as I’ve been cold all week!!) and the new whisky we bought was not as yummy as we intended. If our impromptu Indian take away is gross I may cry.

Bad. Times.

rainyskylight · 30/09/2023 19:20

OP, I understand. I finally opened a special bottle of bubbly we’ve had for 3 years this eve. Combo of pregnancy, a small child and covid meaning we’ve never felt like it was the right time to open it. About to start TTC this week so thought now’s the time. Turns out, I don’t like the taste and it gave me an immediate headache upon 3 sips. What a let down.

gingercat02 · 30/09/2023 19:21

Try a good seco Cava OP it's dry!

Dowtcha · 30/09/2023 19:22

smallshinybutton · 30/09/2023 19:03

Why are you drinking a bottle of prosecco two nights in a row? Is it a special occasion?

Haha

HollieHobbie · 30/09/2023 19:22

AlisonDonut · 30/09/2023 19:05

I've never had prosecco.

You've missed nothing. Honestly, it's shite. If you want a good wine then New Zealand Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is the way to go.

Newdoggo · 30/09/2023 19:24

I get you - Amazon Morrisons delivery regularly sub brut cava for semi sec 😫

Order it the night before the hangover next time.

Put it in the fridge ready for hangover treat and it will taste amazing 😊

smallshinybutton · 30/09/2023 19:26

Could you down it?

WhereIstand · 30/09/2023 19:26

The Aldi own brand (yellow label, £6.99 I think) is really good.

I say that you need to buy a few bottles now and keep trying until you find the perfect one!

Glera · 30/09/2023 19:26

@CassieRole

Extra dry prosecco is the worst. Can I recommend switching to a cremant? It'll brighten your weekends forever more! 🍾 🥂

Newcastle Brown Ale is cheap and fizzy! Missing the point, I know. Or maybe I've just found that lowered standards are the key to happiness.

I'm enjoying a bottle of homebrewed alcoholic ginger beer, but am disappointed to see that my husband has only left me one bottle. It's the driest thing ever though and I can make another batch tomorrow.

AutumnFroglets · 30/09/2023 19:27

CassieRole · 30/09/2023 19:04

@smallshinybutton to date I have drunk no Prosecco as they were both gross! That’s the issue!

Check yourself for covid. Since having it last year I can't have anything sweet. Chocolate, haribo, cookies, muffins, delicious desserts are now inedible due to being too sweet Sad

Jeffreybubblesbombom · 30/09/2023 19:28

I came back from Turkey poorly..been in bed scince Thursday.
I have Fibromyalgia flare and interstitial cystitis so can't even sit down because my foo is so sore. 😶
I blame Turkey..most horrible place I've ever been 😶( and I'm well travelled.. one of those countries we kept saying we must try)..
We had plans this weekend.. but hey ho that's life.
Just had Chinese take away brought..so not all bad.
Just wish my friend had got some cannabis to bring me for my pain.
Sorry about your prosecco.. ( l don't drink so wouldn't know one bottle from another) but I'm especially sorry to the lady who's favourite curry place is shut.

Hankunamatata · 30/09/2023 19:28

I love m&s prosecco
