Ruined weekend

CassieRole · 30/09/2023 18:57

Treated myself to a bottle of Prosecco last night, it turned out to be so sweet it was undrinkable. DH bought me a replacement today, clearly marked extra dry.

Its not only too sweet it has the flavour of cardboard.

😭

Has anyone else had a similarity terrible weekend yet?

It's our wedding anniversary today. Decided we'd get an Indian takeaway delivered. I picked out a chicken pathia. DH duly ordered online. Takeaway turned up and he'd ordered a me a chicken phall. I tried to be nice about his mistake, but I was really looking forward to my curry but there's no way I can eat a fucking phall!

Happy Anniversary 🥂

bellalou1234 · 30/09/2023 20:05

I told a big fat lie and said I was working the early shift at work so I could chill and reset myself and not take my dm out. We're going out tomorrow as planned. I've had a rubbish afternoon.. nowt to watch on TV.. snoozed a bit, but my dog has farted and woke me up with the stink. And i forgot to put the chicken in the oven, so dinner is delayed..serves me right

shootingstar1 · 30/09/2023 20:06

My dog has eaten half a domino's pizza 🤦🏻‍♀️ so looking forward to a run it bum and various toilet trips throughout the night .

Pipsquiggle · 30/09/2023 20:07

@CassieRole please join me on the other side of the prosecco bridge and bask in the glory of Cava. It's better quality and drier.
I can highly recommend Waitrose No.1 Cava.

On a serious point, I work in retail and know a lot of wine buyers and masters of wine. I have quite in depth chats on 'why is prosecco so overrated and in the main shit?' - they have all agreed with me too sweet, over priced etc. That's when they said try Cava. They also recommended cremant as well.
Champagne was mentioned but most of them thought the region was too northerly to be consistently good.

ghostyslovesheets · 30/09/2023 20:08

Stop buying prosecco - start dirking Cremant!

This is my favourite prosecco and I like mine dry/brut/not sweet too.

You've missed nothing. Honestly, it's shite. If you want a good wine then New Zealand Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is the way to go.

Good Prosecco is delicious

A lot of it stays in Italy though

EmmKay13 · 30/09/2023 20:16

I know where you're going wrong. It's because it's prosecco. Which is basically soda streamed wine.

You need to buy a cava brut. Produced the same way as champagne, without the pricetag.

I've treated myself to a bottle of cava brut tonight. I say "treated" as I'm counting calories and I might as well eat three Kit Kat's for same calories. 😅🍾

Cheers.

Ilefttownonsaturday · 30/09/2023 20:16

@CassieRole try cremant instead of prosecco

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 30/09/2023 20:18

My weekend has been fookin' fab so far! Sorry about your prosecco @CassieRole Flowers

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 30/09/2023 20:20

Have to agree though. Prosecco is yak (IMO!)

JANEY205 · 30/09/2023 20:23

Im in America so can’t get a decent Chinese or Indian and I’m devastated as have cravings for both 😭 No I don’t want the chicken wings my husband keeps suggesting!

FelicityFlops · 30/09/2023 20:23

Prosecco in the UK is about as vulgar as you can get.
Sorry that even that did not live up to your expectations.

@HarpieDuJour homemade ginger beer sounds divine. Is it hard to make?

Not at all, will post the eecipe later.

Picklemeyellow · 30/09/2023 20:24

Crap weekend here - DS is 18 tomorrow and we had a meal booked for tonight but he’s come down with the most awful, stinking cold (did a Covid test luckily it’s negative) but he feels so rough we’ve had to cancel the meal. Have ordered a chinese take away in which he’s eating in bed.
Looks like all the family celebrating is off tomorrow.
Bloody Sod’s law, of all the weekends 🙁

RainyDuvetDay · 30/09/2023 20:27

I've been busy redecorating all day and decided to treat myself to a takeaway because I was too tired to cook. I called up to order and they're closed until next week 😩

clary · 30/09/2023 20:31

@Pushkinini that is the WORST. Looking forward to curry - curry comes - can't eat it. Noooo

I once ordered salt and pepper king prawn from the Chinese thinking it would be crunchy and tasty - noooo it was sooooo salty that even I (= Mrs Salt Pot) couldn;t eat it.

IrritatingNotHelpful · 30/09/2023 20:33

I bought hot dogs as I really fancied a hot dog and onions bun, which I hadn't had since 2020 (was a lockdown staple Grin)

I lovingly fried the onions, slowly boiled the hot dogs, put the ketchup on the bun and assembled. Took one bite and though - that doesn't taste right. Took a few more bites though and realised my mouth was actually burning. Turns out I bought perri perri hot dogs. I was absolutely gutted!

This is the worst disaster on the thread. OP could have choked back the Prosecco until the point where she didn't care any more. But an unwanted phall on your anniversary is a travesty of a Saturday night.

clary · 30/09/2023 20:34

on a side note, I drink Prosecco - but I clearly need to stop. Gonna try some of these reccs this week :)

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 30/09/2023 20:34

Ah now where's a time machine when you need one. You could have sent it back to my much much younger self who's tipple of choice back then was sweet white wine and lemonade, no such thing as too sweet in her book! 😳😆

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 30/09/2023 20:41

Sorry but did someone actually ask why she was drinking prosecco 2 nights in a row and was it a special occasion??? Wtf 🤣🤣
Anyway, my shit night is that ordered £110 of pizzas took an age to arrive, was lukewarm and NO freebies!!!

Except for the amazing bottle a friend sends me from Italy every year in time for Christmas. I can't drink Champagne but this is so delicious.

TruJay · 30/09/2023 20:50

@Picklemeyellow

Happy 18th to your son for tomorrow 🥳

Our son is 1 tomorrow! His dad and I feel like absolute crap though and he doesn’t seem right in himself either so think we may have to cancel our day out plans and just laze about at home 😔

I know he won’t know but it’s a tradition to visit the place we’re planning for 1st birthdays in our family. May have to delay til next weekend.
hipe you can have some great, albeit delayed, 18th birthday celebrations yourselves 🎂

OnAFrolicOfMyOwn · 30/09/2023 19:35

Get some Cava instead, that's always much dryer.

I prefer Cava, too.

Freixenet Cordon Negro is really nice.
