"Cheeky" swimsuits. Just why?

I get it for posing on the beach, but why do swimwear makers cut the bums off suits otherwise aimed at the "proper swimming" market. I do not want to see bare arses at 0630 under the bad lighting of my local council swimming.

This, for example. Who buys this? www.arenasport.com/en_uk/006660-women-s-swimsuit-arena-mesh-panels-power-back.html

Looks nasty!

Itslookinggood · 21/09/2023 21:12

The patriarchy aside, I can imagine it looking good on a shapely twentysomething on a sunshiney Brazilian beach.

Down my local leisure centre, however, with freezing changing rooms and lukewarm water, blue goosebumpy arse hanging out of that costume would put me off my stroke.

as would imagining the thrush.

Chocolatefreak · 21/09/2023 21:24

Fair play to anyone who can wears this kind of thing, it's trendy. Fashion has always had its detractors though and I have also worn a few howlers. My parents and friends didn't hold back when I wore bondage pixie boots in the 80s, for example.

With this - the thing with your arse hanging out, it looks more comical than sexy.

And having a constant wedgie looks uncomfortable.

For 40 lengths at your local leisure centre this outfit says 'trying too hard' and 'foolish and awkward'.

All men have penises.....

...?? What's your point?? Hmm This place is nuts sometimes.

Editted for spelling

Threeboysadogandacat · 21/09/2023 21:31

I haven’t noticed any trend for these at our pool yet. To be fair, these days I’m pretty limited in what I can see once I take my glasses off. I like a nice boyleg suit myself and tumble turns give me vertigo now. It’s probably time I joined the aqua aerobics!

allhellcantstopusnow · 21/09/2023 21:48

Why are you all looking up women's dresses?

emilybr · 21/09/2023 22:19

@Ladybrrrd doesn't mean we need to see them.

Yeah cos dicks are equivalent to bum cheeks ffs.

It's not a surprise to see them. It doesn't hurt you to see them, no choice to let them crack on really and just do your own thing. I advise you not to go to any beaches on the continent, lest your pearls implode.

emilybr · 21/09/2023 22:49

@Ladybrrrd but everyone has them. Women already go topless on the beach... now their ass cheeks are hanging out.

You know if men started to wear such revealing swimwear you would have an issue with it.....

JMSA · 21/09/2023 22:55

It looked so innocent from the front Grin
The arse bit looks really uncomfy. And would look frankly horrific on me. One look and people would be drowning themselves in the sea Blush

Well I wouldn't, I quite like a nudist beach.

But besides that, a butt cheek is not the same as a penis. It's not the equivalent. I really fall to see what harm it does at all, even if men were to show off their bums. Just look away - the cheeks can't hurt you. Signing off now because this is a silly conversation.

This might kill the thread. It may not...

JaneJeffer · 21/09/2023 23:50

The link doesn't work. Has MN bought the lot?

Blueink · 22/09/2023 02:29

I can’t fathom why someone would even want to wear this to a pool and have seen similar and been bemused.

I get similar experience where you feel uncomfortable because it’s freezing cold out but someone is in a T-shirt.

Can cope with it (a bit) better at the beach, but never looks good IMO.

Same as 70s style speedos for men.

Poppins2016 · 22/09/2023 05:58

Possibly because it's more comfortable? I've never worn one but I can imagine that would be the case, similar to thongs. And it's a pain in the arse having to make sure you're cossie is in place when you get out of water...

Do most women genuinely find thongs comfortable? I think it looks horribly uncomfortable, especially when exercising... surely it chafes in places that shouldn't be chafed?!

IAmAnIdiot123 · 22/09/2023 06:04

I really like the front and the back is not so obviously thong like. It is the sort of cossie I would buy without really noticing the bum bit then spend ages trying it on and wondering why the back bit doesn't fit and my arse is hanging out.

Needless to say it would be going back to the shop.

Oh that's me, I'm the person wearing a tshirt in the cold. I run really hot, I almost never wear a coat unless it is absolutely baultic.
I apologise for your discomfort in this situation 🤣😁

Bobsledgirl · 22/09/2023 06:58

I noticed near me girls (teens and older)wearing really short tight cycling shorts as daily wear. They are pretty revealing shorts.

Bums are ‘out there’ in a way they weren’t so much in recent times. Look at any music video…big curvy bottoms everywhere. Fetishised almost.

The trend to showing your backside off is fashion led but popular culture is playing a part. Look at the Kardashians for example.

More unachievable body standards.

Sceptre86 · 22/09/2023 07:09

Where would I find a swimming costume that has full bum coverage? Bonus would be if it had some kind of tummy support. Not to derail the thread but I've been looking online and am struggling to find any that aren't similar to the one op posted. The Kardashians have nothing on my backside, mines au natural and could definitely block out the sun.

As for the one in the op it's better than some of the high rise ones I've seen. Those look so uncomfortable to me, not to mention half my flaps would be on show. There's a market for rhem, I've just not got the body type.

sep135 · 22/09/2023 07:13

I hate anything high rise, I just think the swathes of fabric don't flatter even the stick thin.

I've found a adidas bikini (with bottom coverage and everything) with shortish board shorts. I'll be gutted if the bikini loses its elasticity and I have to find a replacement.

Picoloangel · 22/09/2023 07:26

Whenever I see these swimsuits/thongs etc I alway think of men’s underwear and swimming stuff. Men would not put up with this.

MackenCheese · 22/09/2023 07:27

Ilefttownonsaturday · 21/09/2023 17:57

All of these things are designed for the male gaze and women have been conned to think it's liberating. Unfortunately, it's another form of exploitation and modern culture has been sexualised so much that if you don't buy into it people think you're weird.

This. You win the thread. When will women wake up?

Yep. I wear skimpy knickers for certain outfits eg pair of white trousers with thin material. Not point kidding myself that it's because of comfort

The big bloomers I wear in my period are comfortable. It's like wearing air 😇

A man would be seen as a pervert showing of as much of his bum
