"Cheeky" swimsuits. Just why?

I get it for posing on the beach, but why do swimwear makers cut the bums off suits otherwise aimed at the "proper swimming" market. I do not want to see bare arses at 0630 under the bad lighting of my local council swimming.

This, for example. Who buys this? www.arenasport.com/en_uk/006660-women-s-swimsuit-arena-mesh-panels-power-back.html

Think I'd need a YouTube guide to get it on, nevermind the horror if I did.

Hufflepods · 21/09/2023 17:50

I don’t really get the issue, people like to wear different things. It’s not really that outrageous and is very covered in the front.

You can still see the entire out line of your bum in a full coverage swimsuit anyway, it’s just covered in a thin tight fabric.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 21/09/2023 17:50

YANBU. I'm not shocked or offended, I just think they look ridiculous.

Petrarkanian · 21/09/2023 17:53

You'd never see any men wearing trunks like this.

MaybeSmaller · 21/09/2023 17:54

Judging by what short clips are popular on Youtube and Tiktok, this trend is entirely designed to get 15 year old boys interested in watching women's swimming sports. Nothing to do with what girls and women want or need at all.

HowcanIhelp123 · 21/09/2023 17:55

Why are you assuming its to show your arse off for other people's benefit 😂 Maybe they just find that cut more comfortable or they feel good in it? Men walk around in the warm weather topless and no one suggests its to show off their beer belly. Why can't women have their arse out for the fun of it too?

Stressedafff · 21/09/2023 17:56

If I had her figure I’d wear it to the bloody supermarket

There's clearly a difference between an outline under fabric and bare skin. Otherwise women would just walk round topless with no issues.

I live in fear that a labia makes a break for freedom during a tumble turn.

I assume this fashion doesn't extend to men. Hmm. Makes you think.

Ilefttownonsaturday · 21/09/2023 17:57

All of these things are designed for the male gaze and women have been conned to think it's liberating. Unfortunately, it's another form of exploitation and modern culture has been sexualised so much that if you don't buy into it people think you're weird.

ActDottie · 21/09/2023 17:58

I agree it’s very much a swimming at local pool style but then the bum bit is very on the beach style! It’s a bit confused I think!

PleaseUseTheSanitaryBinsProvided · 21/09/2023 17:58

I see brazilian swimwear has arrived here

Gettingbysomehow · 21/09/2023 17:58

Fucks sake that looks ghastly even on the model.

I don't think they are made for the serious swimmer market. The wearers are much more likely to be wearing it on a beach somewhere not down the local leisure centre at 6.30am. In other words, it's a posing swimsuit.

Treaclewell · 21/09/2023 17:59

I did beach swimming off shingle beaches, and sat on them. Pebbles imprinted on bum, not comfortable!

Goldbar31 · 21/09/2023 18:01

Spendonsend · 21/09/2023 17:23

People with much nicer arses than me.

Ha ha! Ditto

Don't be ridiculous. If 15 yr old boys want to see womens bums they don't need to watch swimming to get a glimpse!

Fallingthroughclouds · 21/09/2023 18:01

disappearingfish · 21/09/2023 17:45

@Fallingthroughclouds but would you? For 40 lengths down the local pool which was built in 1978 and last cleaned properly a year later? When you know that the only people who will see your gorgeous arse is the spotty 17 year old lifeguard, some grouchy pensioners and a peri menopausal woman desperately trying to stave off blimpiness.

What's the pool cleanliness got to do with it?

I probably wouldn't no, but care not a jot if this is other people's choice.

Neilsfavouritechilli · 21/09/2023 18:02

Everyone asking about why men don't wear this stuff please don't Google the c string. Granted it's not for swimming but I have seen a couple of blokes on Filey beach with these this summer.

MonumentalLentil · 21/09/2023 18:03

It looks rather uncomfortable. I can almost feel the chafing.

🙌🏼 Yes!

Treacletoots · 21/09/2023 18:04

@Ilefttownonsaturday has it spot on.

Sadly the older I get the more I realise the patriarchy controls our entire existence.

Of course it looks fucking ridiculous.

Willmafrockfit · 21/09/2023 18:06

i remember seeing these type in 1989 in florida,
surely they have been around here already?

Sammi89 · 21/09/2023 18:06

Each to their own but I don’t want strangers seeing my bum 😂

CharlieUniformNovemberTangoYankee · 21/09/2023 18:07

To paraphrase Jim Royle - that swimsuit cost £56 and she's got 30 quids worth stuck up her arse
