"Cheeky" swimsuits. Just why?

disappearingfish · 21/09/2023 17:22

I get it for posing on the beach, but why do swimwear makers cut the bums off suits otherwise aimed at the "proper swimming" market. I do not want to see bare arses at 0630 under the bad lighting of my local council swimming.

This, for example. Who buys this? www.arenasport.com/en_uk/006660-women-s-swimsuit-arena-mesh-panels-power-back.html

People with much nicer arses than me.

Yep!

HowcanIhelp123 · 21/09/2023 17:25

Why are you bothered? It's an arse cheek. Doesn't really make a difference if its on the beach or local swimming bath, you're still seeing the same thing 😂

donkra · 21/09/2023 17:26

I am also mystified by this. I like fashion as much as anyone, but picking fabric out of your crack all the time is just not fun.

I expect teenagers to wear wildly impractical swimwear just to prove that they can, but I don't want a fucking wedgie, thanks.

YouveGotAFastCar · 21/09/2023 17:27

This type of swimming costume is really popular at my local leisure center. There's more butt-less costumes than ones with full coverage.

Possibly because it's more comfortable? I've never worn one but I can imagine that would be the case, similar to thongs. And it's a pain in the arse having to make sure you're cossie is in place when you get out of water...

I'm unfussed, to be honest. It's a bit of butt cheek.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 21/09/2023 17:27

It's also weirdly a very conservative cut at the front

jlpth · 21/09/2023 17:28

Maybe someone who hasn't seen the back buys it. Or someone who picks it off the shelf thinking it's a basic costume. I'd hate the majority of my arse hanging out, but we are in a bit of a porn culture.

disappearingfish · 21/09/2023 17:29

There's good reasons that arses are covered in public. Even nice arses. I'm not offended by arses. I just do not want to see an uncovered arse doing breast stroke three feet in front of me in a swimming lane.

Lets hope you don't look up the in fashion shorts next, they cover about the same 😂

Wishthiswasntmypost · 21/09/2023 17:33

I am constantly infuriated at clothes manufacturers making women look like idiots. The vast majority of bums you see in these are not stunning. They just look frankly like they've got a wedgie. People stare with wry smiles. You never see men wearing ridiculous items of clothing. It really makes us (women)look easily led, and is usually laughable

Torganer · 21/09/2023 17:34

I don’t think it looks that bad. I had a similar one in my younger days and it was very comfortable. Unless people wear loose shorts, you can see people’s bottoms due to the tight fit.

FeigningConcern · 21/09/2023 17:35

Well that looks....uncomfortable.

disappearingfish · 21/09/2023 17:36

@HowcanIhelp123 I saw a woman walking down the street in a skin tight dress that ended on her hips, with just a thong underneath. So basically a bare arse on a suburban street in a small town at 5pm on a Tuesday. All I could think was that I hoped she put a towel down before she sat down on the bus because otherwise it would be v unhygienic.

If I had a gorgeous bottom like that, then I would.

ssd · 21/09/2023 17:37

I wonder if they make them for men to show most of their arse at the baths too

ForthegracegoI · 21/09/2023 17:39

Do men wear these too?

KirstenBlest · 21/09/2023 17:40

It doesn't seem to have the secret support bit for the boobs.

minipie · 21/09/2023 17:41

<winces>

cruffinsmuffin · 21/09/2023 17:42

If I tried to put that on I'd look like a badly trussed up Christmas ham.

Tbh if I could look how she does in it, I'd definitely wear it! Not that much skin showing I find it inappropriate or offensive, quite like the styling of the back part too

As I regular swimmer I concur.

gogomoto · 21/09/2023 17:45

Looks ouchy to me but then I think thongs are very uncomfortable too, give me granny pants any day

disappearingfish · 21/09/2023 17:45

@Fallingthroughclouds but would you? For 40 lengths down the local pool which was built in 1978 and last cleaned properly a year later? When you know that the only people who will see your gorgeous arse is the spotty 17 year old lifeguard, some grouchy pensioners and a peri menopausal woman desperately trying to stave off blimpiness.

From the front, it's not too bad, but for nearly sixty quid, I'd want my bum covered.

Its probably trendy. Alas, I am not.

I agree with this. That swimsuit in the OP is particularly weird - fairly conservative at the front, with the ‘cheeky’ back. Just why?
