"Cheeky" swimsuits. Just why?

I get it for posing on the beach, but why do swimwear makers cut the bums off suits otherwise aimed at the "proper swimming" market. I do not want to see bare arses at 0630 under the bad lighting of my local council swimming.

This, for example. Who buys this? www.arenasport.com/en_uk/006660-women-s-swimsuit-arena-mesh-panels-power-back.html

I think this is a fairly weird "length" tbh. It either has to be showing much more, or much less. Even a 15% body fat powerlifter's bum would look unappealing in this.

15% fat on a woman never looks appealing.

This swimsuit can look nice with people with a big bum.

How did feminism go from ‘free the nipple’ to ‘let’s cover up’ in a matter of a few years?

It’s about not being treated differently to men or being controlled by them.
Being told which part of our bodies should or should not be on display- thighs yes - wear your shorts as short as possible, we like looking at your thighs, nipple no it’s offensive, too sexual cover it up (but only when it belongs to a woman). It’s about men not telling us what we should or shouldn’t wear - whether it’s directly or indirectly through applied pressure ( sexualised industries / social media etc).

emilybr · 21/09/2023 20:28

I don't think a man has ever told us what to wear....
I do however think they do enjoy very much is wearing as little as possible

heartofglass23 · 21/09/2023 20:28

Yuk!

That is not appropriate for a swimming pool!

Siestamama · 21/09/2023 20:30

inamarina · 21/09/2023 17:48

I agree with this. That swimsuit in the OP is particularly weird - fairly conservative at the front, with the ‘cheeky’ back. Just why?

Fashion 🤦🏼‍♀️

emilybr · 21/09/2023 20:31

I actually really like the swim suit on her body

DigbyTheDigger · 21/09/2023 20:33

That fantastic young diver (Andrea Sirieix) always wears a costume with no arse in it. I’d presumed it was some governing body that issued the kit and was outraged on her behalf.

I’ll ask again - who is this patriarchy? Who is it that’s apparently ‘telling’ you what you can and can’t wear? Most fashion designers and clothes makers, and fashion marketing executives, are women - are they the patriarchy?

If you go to a beach in Spain, Greece or Italy, there’s everything from women sunbathing topless in a tiny g-string to women in full-on burkinis.

I just don’t see this control and manipulation playing out in real life. I see women exercising freedom to flaunt/cover up.

AInightingale · 21/09/2023 20:35

I agree with you OP. Girls and women are looking increasingly quite ridiculous. It's kind of like the inverse of the islamic dress code - reveal as much flesh as possible, aim for zero modesty, show men everything you've got.

givemeasunnyday · 21/09/2023 20:36

Wishthiswasntmypost · 21/09/2023 17:33

I am constantly infuriated at clothes manufacturers making women look like idiots. The vast majority of bums you see in these are not stunning. They just look frankly like they've got a wedgie. People stare with wry smiles. You never see men wearing ridiculous items of clothing. It really makes us (women)look easily led, and is usually laughable

That is true, to a certain extent, but no woman is forced to wear ridiculous items of clothing, there are other choices. Unfortunately, it seems some women are easily led.

ClearThisUp · 21/09/2023 20:36

Notpooryet · 21/09/2023 19:12

Yes. It's much, much more patronising to suggest that the only reason anyone could object to it is because they are an uptight prude or jealous of someone's 'great' body ( 'oh, sorry, healthy bmi which doesn't at all conform to beauty standards, oh no dear me no'🙄)
The male gaze and the power of the patriarchy exist and pointing this out empowers women. Pretending it doesn't and that we all have completely free choice flies in the face of both reality and women's interests. It's anti feminist and anti women.
HtH.

This 💯❗️

FoxtrotOscarFoxtrotOscar · 21/09/2023 20:37

I'd need a reverse Hollywood to wear that.

silverbubbles · 21/09/2023 20:39

First time I've seen a 'proper swim suit' with no bum - totally ridiculous

buttermuffintin · 21/09/2023 20:40

Because they want you to pay at an expensive costume so men can see your arse which seems to be their god given right according to society. Up to them I guess but I think it looks grim.

emilybr · 21/09/2023 20:24

In a combination with a muscular body, looks very attractive, in my opinion.

Fallingthroughclouds · 21/09/2023 20:45

This thread is has deterioted into bitchiness, judging people on what they wear. Stop looking so closely at their bottoms if you don't like it. They might think you look ridiculous with your po faced, sneery disapproval. Caring this much about other people's swimwear choices is just weird.

montysma1 · 21/09/2023 20:47

Do people not have mirrors?
A vanishingly small number of women have the porn culture large but firm nut brown butts that these swim suits are meant to show off. These are the only butts that should be seeing daylight and even then....
Most women have simultaneously lardy but weirdly flat and splayed buttocks, colour of dead fish and rippling with cellulite.

Do folk look in the mirror and somehow the porn butt is reflected back?

Sweedey · 21/09/2023 20:50

15% fat on a woman never looks appealing.

Can we not please. Unless you're going to share how certain pealing you are, there's no need to insult people who have different body types.

DisquietintheRanks · 21/09/2023 20:51

MaybeSmaller · 21/09/2023 17:54

Judging by what short clips are popular on Youtube and Tiktok, this trend is entirely designed to get 15 year old boys interested in watching women's swimming sports. Nothing to do with what girls and women want or need at all.

In which case, why are women and girls buying them? Do they not have minds and free will?

Gowlett · 21/09/2023 20:51

Agree about shorts. I really hate seeing young bums walking around in them. I would have been mortified at that age…

SallySunrise · 21/09/2023 20:51

That looks really fucking uncomfortable.

I can also see plenty of people buying that without looking at all the photos. So conservative at the front!

anomaly2 · 21/09/2023 20:55

Ilefttownonsaturday · 21/09/2023 17:57

All of these things are designed for the male gaze and women have been conned to think it's liberating. Unfortunately, it's another form of exploitation and modern culture has been sexualised so much that if you don't buy into it people think you're weird.

Bollocks. I hate full bottomed swimwear as they make arsed look enormous and I'm forever picking them out of my crack. Ones like this that are designed to go there are much more comfortable than fabric that's not supposed to be there bunched up.

I am curious about the word 'flaunt'.

That is predicated on there being an audience. It describes a sexual dynamic.

Most people don't want a sexual dynamic with everyone around them, or random people.

I have no issue with nudity, but the idea that it's 'empowering' to choose to sexualise every encounter, or to foist this hypothetical sexual allure onto everyone who passes you speaks to me of weak boundaries at best, inappropriate behaviour at worst.

Iateallthechocolate · 21/09/2023 21:03

The world is getting older, soon hardly anyone will be wearing arseless swimsuits.

Fortunately for me I have astigmatism so without my glasses everyone is in soft focus and looks fabulous, with or without an arse in their swimsuit.

Cowlover89 · 21/09/2023 21:04

It's just a bum 🤷‍♀️
