"Cheeky" swimsuits. Just why?

disappearingfish · 21/09/2023 17:22

I get it for posing on the beach, but why do swimwear makers cut the bums off suits otherwise aimed at the "proper swimming" market. I do not want to see bare arses at 0630 under the bad lighting of my local council swimming.

This, for example. Who buys this? www.arenasport.com/en_uk/006660-women-s-swimsuit-arena-mesh-panels-power-back.html

Everyone's got a bum. What's the huge great deal? Mine's not anything special, but I do have other parts I show off - muscular arms, nice chest. It's got naff all to do with blokes. Not interested in them. But I did work hard to look nice (and you know what yeah, a little sexy) so why can't I be proud?

Men don't (usually) show off their bums because that's not what people (usually) look for. Abs, pecs, calves, traps. That's the equivalent and you see them all the time.

All men have penises.....

disappearingfish · 21/09/2023 19:30

I know everyone have a bum 🙄 I just don't want see a stranger's bare arse crack when I'm trying to channel Sharron Davies in early morning lane swimming. It's unedifying.

@InstructionsUnclear no. People wear appropriate clothing. Wearing a thonged bikini is far too revealing for your council gym.

Notpooryet · 21/09/2023 19:31

@Usernamen
I never shame women but I do know we won't be free whilst the patriarchy persuades women it's not their enemy. As it has clearly persuaded you. Pity.
Feminism is nonsense is it? Think about your life without it, if you can (there are women today who actually remember, you could ask them). Then think again.

It's also weirdly a very conservative cut at the front

The mullet of swimwear 😂

junbean · 21/09/2023 19:33

It's just a style. Why not? It's just a body. I have several of these in a bikini style. Not full wedgie but still cheeky. I honestly don't care, I think all styles are cute. I think anyone should be able to wear whatever without fear of comments/judgement/repulsion like yours.

inamarina · 21/09/2023 17:48

I agree with this. That swimsuit in the OP is particularly weird - fairly conservative at the front, with the ‘cheeky’ back. Just why?

The swimsuit equivalent of business up front, party in the rear?

It just looks badly designed and uncomfortable.

Okay, you’re being obtuse so I’m not bothering with you any more. You’re contradicting yourself. If women wear bikinis or low cut swimsuits showing cleavage to the swimming pool then it’s exactly the same thing as this swimsuit.

Im not bothering with you any more because you can’t admit that you’re wrong. Have a lovely evening.

bridgetreilly · 21/09/2023 19:36

Apparently people who want swimsuits ‘inspired by lingerie’ that they can wear with jeans?? So weird.

disappearingfish · 21/09/2023 19:36

At least they're transparent about their "inspiration":
Made for sports but inspired by lingerie, our Mesh Panels Power Back Swimsuit has a strappy design, transparent inserts and cheeky bottom.

Cross post and yes! So weird. They also say it's good for aqua aerobics. 😀 I've never seen anyone under 50 at an aqua aerobics class!

Please don’t twist my words. I was clearly talking about this current wave of navel-gazing, problem-mongering bollocks masquerading as feminism.

There are real problems in the world that impact women - look at the plight of women living under the Taliban - yet these joyless bores who are offended by an arse cheek that call themselves ‘feminists’ have nothing to say about that apparently. Instead they’re jumping up and down about the ‘male gaze’. 🤦‍♀️

itsmyp4rty · 21/09/2023 19:40

I'd say it's a case of Brazillian 'up your bum' bikini's seem to be a big thing so now they're sticking them on anything, even on what looks from the front like a cossie for swimming laps in. Personally I hate anything up my ass and the only thing I swim in is shorts as I don't think anyone else should have to see it.

How do you know they don't have anything to say about that? Have you asked them or something?

Cornflakes44 · 21/09/2023 19:42

Hmmm problem mongering feminism??? Yeah we really should just chill out, put on our sexy swim wear, and not worry so much. The only real sexism is abroad. Are you a male troll? I feel like there are a lot of MN these days.

I know plenty of them.

Not a peep about the Taliban.

Endless whingeing about ‘man-spreading’ and the like though.

Usernamen · 21/09/2023 19:45

Yes, I must be a male troll. 😂 See my point above about feminism being anti-women and punishing any woman who doesn’t toe the line.

You're the one calling women who care about the male gaze or the constantly sexualisation of women 'joyless bores'. I assumed because you don't sound like a feminist, or that you like feminists very much, you were here to wind people up.

The male gaze is the common denominator though, isn’t it. Whether that’s women having to wear burqas as it’s “necessary to protect women from unwanted attention” or western clothing designed to attract that attention and girls being told they should look sexy and attractive. When you think about it both issues come down to men and their ‘gaze’.

Stoic123 · 21/09/2023 19:50

Looks dreadful, probably sore to wear and a thrush risk.

If I saw someone sufficiently idiotic to wear it, I might judge their taste in swimwear but wouldn't be particularly bothered by it.

I realy don't care about the swimsuit, see it everywhere

But- you think showing your bum cheeks is not toeing the line??🤔

You're more of a rebel if you don't do that

ArabeIIaScott · 21/09/2023 19:51

Joyless bore here. Can confirm I have plenty to say about women under the Taliban.

I quite like an arse cheek, in its place, I just don't fancy having an unintentional lycra enema, or necessarily seeing everyone else's inner sexy god/goddess/bollock wobbling about all over the changing village while I take the kids to their lessons. That goes for men's arses or women's arses.

Usernamen · 21/09/2023 19:54

Viewing the exercise of freedom to wear what we flaunt and to flaunt our sexuality as the ‘constant sexualisation of women’ is the problem here. It’s treating women as if we’re just thick, passive idiots who do what ‘the patriarchy’ (who the fuck is the patriarchy?) tells us to do.

Anyway, we’re not going to agree. Have a nice evening 👍

Agapornis · 21/09/2023 19:56

Water polo swimsuits tend to be worn in the wedgie sizes to minimise grabbing surface. That's the only excuse I could think of for Arena to sell this. But there's far too many straps for this to be a wise choice for water polo!
