"Cheeky" swimsuits. Just why?

disappearingfish · 21/09/2023 17:22

I get it for posing on the beach, but why do swimwear makers cut the bums off suits otherwise aimed at the "proper swimming" market. I do not want to see bare arses at 0630 under the bad lighting of my local council swimming.

This, for example. Who buys this? www.arenasport.com/en_uk/006660-women-s-swimsuit-arena-mesh-panels-power-back.html

You might not want to look at it but pools are full of all sort, plasters, piss, farts... best not to think about it.

Superduper02 · 21/09/2023 18:10

Agree OP. Nice bum or not, I'd be horrified to see one of these at my local swimming pool. Beach on holiday totally different story. Don't know why.

LittleObe · 21/09/2023 18:10

Brazilians. It's normal over there.

Sadly my muffin top would not allow it

Willmafrockfit · 21/09/2023 18:12

CharlieUniformNovemberTangoYankee · 21/09/2023 18:07

To paraphrase Jim Royle - that swimsuit cost £56 and she's got 30 quids worth stuck up her arse

ha ha Grin

Spendonsend · 21/09/2023 17:23

People with much nicer arses than me.

me too! Mine would look like two melons fell out

KirstenBlest · 21/09/2023 18:15

Mine would look like two pillows had fallen out and the front would be one big monoboob.

Because women always have to look attractive for the constant male gaze.
Female athletes were protesting about the sexualising of sportswear a little while ago, eg https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2021/07/this-is-how-female-athletes-are-taking-a-stand-against-sexist-clothing-rules/
Of course it’s not males clothing that is sexualised, because they are the dominant sex who must be pleased at all times.

This is how female athletes are taking a stand against sexist clothing rules

German gymnasts decided to take a stand against their sexualisation, donning full-body suits at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

I am constantly infuriated at clothes manufacturers making women look like idiots. The vast majority of bums you see in these are not stunning. They just look frankly like they've got a wedgie. People stare with wry smiles. You never see men wearing ridiculous items of clothing. It really makes us (women)look easily led, and is usually laughable

I came here to say exactly this.

Ive raised the issue of ridiculous clothes on other threads too.

Why are women encouraged to wear ridiculous clothes (arse flashing swimwear and shorts, Little House on The Prairie dresses, cut-out shoulder tops, Kim Kardashian style spray on clothes), in horrible materials, while men are offered sensible, well made clothes in wool and cotton, that dont flash the arse and shoulders and aren't some mimicry of an 18th century costume?

It's almost as if the fashion designers want us to look stupid ... 🤔

Exactly.

It’s not liberating, Tis a con as sports wear

saying that I haven’t seen it much at our lido so I assume is mostly for hols

Don't be ridiculous. If 15 yr old boys want to see womens bums they don't need to watch swimming to get a glimpse!

I mean get them to watch clips of it on Tiktok or YT or whatever it is.

I get that porn exists, but this is the closest you get in "safe" or "family friendly" filtered content when straight up porn is blocked.

smilesup · 21/09/2023 18:21

I saw a beautiful young woman wearing an incredibly short dress coming down an escalator. She was not wearing any underwear as I could see pretty up up to her cervix 😁.
I couldn't work out if she knew or not as she was immaculate in every other way.

I lived in Spain and this sort of thing is common. As is topless bathing and they have lots of nudist beaches. And it’s women of all ages, shapes and sizes who go topless and nude. They just don’t care. And I’ve seen such swimming costumes in their public pools too (which are outside and really cool btw).

I much prefer their way of thinking than this thread. Who cares if someone’s bum is on show? Maybe if we relaxed a bit we’d be a bit more like the Spanish and they are MUCH more body positive over there. Maybe if we stopped judging our teenagers wouldn’t have so many issues. Who cares what others are wearing.

FreebieWallopFridge · 21/09/2023 18:23

I don’t understand people saying this sort of thing is comfortable. How is a permanent wedgie comfortable?

And no, I don’t want to see bum cheeks everywhere I go. Male or female.

Inthetropics · 21/09/2023 18:25

It's normal here. I'm brazilian and I don't wear them, but TONS of people here do and it's just one of many diferent styles and shapes available. I have a dear friend who finds this cut more comfortable. There are many very revealing swimming clothes designed for men here too. In the end it's just swimming clothes. Some people dress in them to be comfortable, some to show their bum, some just like the model, etc.

Arniesleftleg · 21/09/2023 18:25

I'd be forever pulling it out of my bum crack! Loads of women on holiday wore these, all sizes and shapes. I didn't find it offensive just curious as to how someone can walk about with a hungry bum all day!

bobotothegogo · 21/09/2023 18:25

I honestly don't think I'd wear it even if I did have a perfect arse. Your naked arse cheeks are literally on display at the public pool. It's like one of those horrible nightmares you wake up from all sweaty and relieved that it was all just dream!

Purplebunnie · 21/09/2023 18:26

From the back it looks like she's bought a size too small (in fact two sizes too small)😂

IDX · 21/09/2023 18:28

Different garments are made for different body shapes and preferences.
I’ve always avoided full bum coverage swimsuits because majority of them are made for average height ladies. With me being tall the bum area gets wedged in too much resulting in me having four but cheeks instead of two lol
this style would be perfect for me.
And also why not go for a cheeky style if you feel bit cheeky inside aye xxx

MonumentalLentil · 21/09/2023 18:31

It does save on fabric though.

fruitnutz · 21/09/2023 18:32

Just be grateful men don't wear such silly stuff.

IDoughnutKnow · 21/09/2023 18:33

OP you are 100% right.

I don't want to see bare buttocks anywhere in public.

It also seems that the lardier the wearer, the skimpier the clothing.

TheTecknician · 21/09/2023 18:33

This is really nothing. As a poster upthread said, the videos on YouTube show young ladies in far more revealing swimsuits. One cannot deny they have the figure for it. Be thankful you're not seeing men, of any shape, size or age, in backless briefs. You would be put off swimming, bottoms and men for life.

But this cossie has three purposes only and none of them are swimming.
1- For the male gaze
2- To delineate between the women who care about looking good for males and those who don't (who men can then avoid)
3- To point out with a big red arrow, women who have been taken in by societal pressures to conform to what others (male) want and to almost believer IT IS THEIR OWN PREFERENCE. So easy targets for those who prey on the not very strong minded.

You'd never see any men wearing trunks like this.

I bloody hope not.

emilybr · 21/09/2023 18:39

If men started to wear this cut.....
