"Cheeky" swimsuits. Just why?

I get it for posing on the beach, but why do swimwear makers cut the bums off suits otherwise aimed at the "proper swimming" market. I do not want to see bare arses at 0630 under the bad lighting of my local council swimming.

This, for example. Who buys this? www.arenasport.com/en_uk/006660-women-s-swimsuit-arena-mesh-panels-power-back.html

Maybe it's as uncomfortable as it looks and makes you swim faster?

friedplantain2023 · 22/09/2023 22:33

What not cut out the " front bottom " area while you're at it ?😂

ohwhatadustyanswer · 22/09/2023 22:34

It is bad but doesn’t make me as angry as the long sleeved and high necked swimsuit I bought from Boden which inexplicably had a cut at the front that was only suitable for a Brazilian porn star. And I only discovered it too late at the swimming pool so couldn’t even send it back. Spent the whole time having to use my hands as a fig leaf.

FedUpWithEverything123 · 22/09/2023 22:44

Looks ghastly to me. I had no idea bumless swimming costumes were in style

Twillow · 22/09/2023 22:50

You know what? I wouldn't care if there was equality. When there's a version for men I'll believe that 'just a bit of arse cheek' is harmless.

FedUpWithEverything123 · 22/09/2023 22:52

@InstructionsUnclear oh yes, Spain is a country I aspire to, much less misogyny, much better views on women etc. Let's all us women & teen girls hang our bare arses out and everything will be better eh!
No thank you

anon666 · 22/09/2023 23:01

My first reaction was "it's indecent". Honestly how does someone go out in a public place like that?

Put it away!!

I'm all for freedom but not exposing everything, surely?

Knewt · 22/09/2023 23:07

They’re awful and look ridiculous. Even worse when young girls are wearing them. There’s no way I’d allow my daughter to wear one.

YeOldeBuxomWench · 22/09/2023 23:15

I'm teetering on overweight, but my foof is morbidly obese, so I would have the same look on the front and the back. Bit like Cher in that Turn Back Time video but with much more flabbage.

Bbq1 · 21/09/2023 17:59

I don't think they are made for the serious swimmer market. The wearers are much more likely to be wearing it on a beach somewhere not down the local leisure centre at 6.30am. In other words, it's a posing swimsuit.

I agree! Even with the best SPF though those tan lines are going to wreak havoc in any clothing showing a little skin (side note I'm in Australia)

Spendonsend · 21/09/2023 17:23

People with much nicer arses than me.

🤣
But even when I had a nice arse I still wouldn't have worn it. I saw an old bloke in a pink fluoro G-string on the beach as a teen, he stood right in front of my friend and I staring out to sea. That image is burned into my mind. Admittedly G-strings weren't a thing here 25 years ago, he wouldn't stand out so much now I suppose.

BlueVinca · 23/09/2023 01:43

I'm not keen on wedgie swimsuits or leggings.

Panaa · 23/09/2023 03:17

I think it looks great.

I'm not a swimmer so I don't know about comfortable swim suits but I wear that kind of cheeky style shorts for pole dance/fitness and it's ridiculously comfortable when they are from good brands because they are designed to stay in place.

And no it's not for the male gaze.

We need bare skin to stick to the pole, and sometimes arses are an extra gripping point 😅
Also there are no men in the classes apart from one gay man.

Annieshpd · 23/09/2023 05:41

Lol!! I was thinking the same thing when I saw one of these at a store the other day. When it comes to a swimsuit I need it to cover my bum and lips 😂

disappearingfish · 23/09/2023 07:02

Just a point of clarification. I didn't start this thread saying "women who do x are ugly etc."

I started it to say that when in an environment that is focused on sport, fitness and wellness (the local pool) I don't want to see bare arses - any bare arses, male or female - inches away from my nose.

It's not a new or uncommon concept that certain clothes are appropriate or inappropriate for certain scenarios. I would never wear a "cheeky" swimsuit anyway, but I definitely wouldn't wear one where I might bump into old Mr Miggins from no.78, or Colin the IT guy from work.

Why are you putting your nose mere inches away from someone's arse? I'd be asking to get you removed from the pool, I think that is highly inappropriate.

And just because you wouldn't wear something doesn't mean others shouldn't. People are all different. Maybe work on your level of tolerance. You survive seeing people wearing slightly more revealing swimsuits than you choose, and people in your life survive you banging on about it.

LondonLass91 · 23/09/2023 08:25

Oh God that's gross...worse even than the current upside down bikini top trend..

blondiepigtails · 23/09/2023 09:05

And what happens to your boobs when you do front crawl or are these swimmers all a B cup? My G’s would be making a bid for freedom!

Teddleshon · 23/09/2023 09:10

I think that swimsuit is revolting and I can never understand why anyone would wear one to do lengths in.

You don't have to, I'm sure the swimmer doesn't need your understanding. Equally she might think you look revolting in your choice of swimwear. That's the great thing though choice!

Teddleshon · 23/09/2023 09:21

Indeed it is.

Birdy8 · 23/09/2023 09:26

I agree with the OP. I think women and girls are continually being over sexualised and some of us just blindly buying into it (often led by celebrity)and not appreciating the implications for us and future generations. Case in point - the commonwealth diving competitions last year I was shocked to see how unnecessarily skimpily cut most of the swimsuits (and even surprisingly mens trunks) are now - why??? How comfortable are we sitting with our children watching this over sexualisation in sports??? We need to wake up and challenge it!

Hippyhippybake · 23/09/2023 09:37

Totally agree @Birdy8. Cannot understand why women and girls want to go along with this constant sexualisation / objectification. You can look fabulous without your bum cheeks hanging out.
