"Cheeky" swimsuits. Just why?

disappearingfish · 21/09/2023 17:22

I get it for posing on the beach, but why do swimwear makers cut the bums off suits otherwise aimed at the "proper swimming" market. I do not want to see bare arses at 0630 under the bad lighting of my local council swimming.

This, for example. Who buys this? www.arenasport.com/en_uk/006660-women-s-swimsuit-arena-mesh-panels-power-back.html

This type of swimming costume is really popular at my local leisure center. There's more butt-less costumes than ones with full coverage.

Possibly because it's more comfortable? I've never worn one but I can imagine that would be the case, similar to thongs. And it's a pain in the arse having to make sure you're cossie is in place when you get out of water...

I'm unfussed, to be honest. It's a bit of butt cheek.

I would have thought they would be really uncomfortable- I’m imagining it just getting tighter and tighter up your arse every time you do an over head stroke 😬

There is absolutely nothing hypocritical about saying other women can wear what they want, but I think it’s hideous

But what's the point? What is the point of making a thread saying "women who do x are ugly in my opinion". If they're allowed to do it, you think they're allowed to do it, and it doesn't hurt you, then what's the point?? Does it just make you feel a bit better? A bit holier-than-thou? People are not cheering them on like fecking seals, we're saying 'leave them alone!'

Did some people's parents just never teach them 'if you can't say anything nice, don't say it?'

I could make threads all day saying I hate it when women dress like boring, frumpy grannies, but what's the point?

Arguably there isn’t one, but if you’re of that view, S&B is presumably of no interest to you. Opining on what is and isn’t stylish and beautiful is pretty much the raison d’etre.

So on this thread we have women saying that women with certain body fat percentages are unattractive, referring to ‘fat, hairy arses’, saying that only women with nice pert bottoms could wear this but most people’s are ‘wobbly’ and ‘saggy’, all whilst claiming they should be banned in the name of ‘feminism’. So, wearing short shorts with bottom cleavage out isn’t feminism, but criticising other women’s bodies is?

I think some women on here need to stop shouting MISOGYNY and start looking at their own internalised misogyny that makes them think it’s acceptable to criticise other women’s bodies, or believer that only small pert bottoms are attractive and that any bottom that is ‘wobbly’, ‘fat’ or ‘hairy’ is unacceptable.

Indeed.

MarvellousMonsters · 22/09/2023 18:55

Because it’s actually uncomfortable that’s why. Either a proper thong or full coverage, but not these Brazilian arse crack climbers.

Bertiesmum3 · 22/09/2023 18:57

Don’t ever go abroad somewhere hot, that’s all they wear on the beach, and around the pool regardless of size

allhellcantstopusnow · 22/09/2023 17:48

Women really are awful to other women aren't they.

I mean... it's a pretty basic swimsuit and in surprised that so many people don't like it but I wouldn't say disliking an item of clothing is truly awful. Anyone with eyes can see the model herself looks great. The swimsuit is a matter of personal taste.

Mothership4two · 22/09/2023 19:22

Seeing a thong wouldn't bother me on the beach or at a swimming pool. You cannot really see what people are wearing in a pool unless they are getting in or out. And seeing someone's buttocks just wouldn't phase me.

I have never liked the style though, even from when it first started to be seen in the 1980s (rarely then in the UK) when I had the figure to carry it off. I don't like thong pants either, too uncomfortable, but I know some women love them

MsPloddingBottom · 22/09/2023 19:25

@TreeTopness agree with your post though. Some people will use a topic lien this to spout there nonsense.

I'm a woman of low body fat perecentage, with a small hairy arseBlush is quite like a swimsuit like that because it covers most up and would make my bum shapely.

As long as we're strictly talking about clothing, it's fine. I hate it when things descend into body shaming because of a few over-excited posters.

allhellcantstopusnow · 22/09/2023 19:25

@MsPloddingBottom have you not read the things that have been said alongside? Comments about other people's bodies, being fat, ugly etc.

Shit behaviour.

You know this is the style and beauty thread.. where people talk about clothes and what they like and stuff? Maybe it’s not for you.

DieSchottin93 · 22/09/2023 19:50

Wouldn't surprise me if the swimsuit in the OP has been hoiked up a bit for the purposes of the photoshoot. I have a couple of Arena swimsuits that were thankfully a bit more full coverage than the photos suggested. It does seem to be the fashion at the moment to pull your swimsuit half way up your bum 🤔

LalaPaloosa · 22/09/2023 20:01

I noticed in Ibiza that everyone had these really really arse bearing swimsuits. I felt like a granny in my normal bikini 🤣

Toomuchtrouble4me · 22/09/2023 20:04

I would if I had an arse like hers! I’d wear it on the school run.

Weebleonaworkout · 22/09/2023 20:06

I can't begin to imagine swimming whilst wearing that. It looks so bloody uncomfortable. I wouldn't want to see it either tbh so I'm with you OP.

😂
that really would cause a stir at the school gates 😳 🤣

Mmhmmn · 22/09/2023 20:08

And the kids would be so delighted 😂

PoshPineapple · 22/09/2023 20:10

That's just weird! From the back "helllllllo boys" from the front "this is the closest I can get to wearing a full leotard, without wearing a full leotard"

Palomabalom · 22/09/2023 20:17

Couldn’t agree more. I just can’t get over some of the absurd stuff women and young girls wear probably designed by sexist men for other sexist Perverts. I don’t understand the hideous fashion for these ugly wrestling suits that seem to be a thing at the moment. No matter how thin you are they are just demeaning to the wearer and pretty grim to look at for most people.

SurprisedWithAHorse · 22/09/2023 20:45

I'll be very surprised if these things are designed by men, tbh. They're unlikely to be designing women's swimwear.

They definitely weren't designed by someone with a lot of scar tissue in their nether regions

Emma2023 · 22/09/2023 21:13

I would if my arse was good enough 🤷🏼‍♀️

I guess those people aren't the target market.
