"Cheeky" swimsuits. Just why?

disappearingfish · 21/09/2023 17:22

I get it for posing on the beach, but why do swimwear makers cut the bums off suits otherwise aimed at the "proper swimming" market. I do not want to see bare arses at 0630 under the bad lighting of my local council swimming.

This, for example. Who buys this? www.arenasport.com/en_uk/006660-women-s-swimsuit-arena-mesh-panels-power-back.html

It doesn't look very comfortable.

The model has a lovely bum though.
I wouldn't wear it because I'd feel self conscious having that much of my arse out (plus the point about it not looking comfortable) but if I had a bum that nice I might feel differently.

When did it become socially acceptable to have that much bum cheek (or more) on show though? I mean it's just a bum, so it doesn't bother me, but it's not always been the case that "bum out" swimwear was normal and so widely available, has it?

Interesting how times change (I'm nearly 40).

It's grim, YANBU

It isn't socially acceptable.

Okay, you’re being obtuse so I’m not bothering with you any more. You’re contradicting yourself. If women wear bikinis or low cut swimsuits showing cleavage to the swimming pool then it’s exactly the same thing as this swimsuit.

Im not bothering with you any more because you can’t admit that you’re wrong. Have a lovely evening.

Don't understand posts like this. Calling other poster sexist and obtuse and then wishing them a great day.

So you want to have the last word by lashing out.

I have also lived in Spain and old women fo not wear thong like bikini bottoms.

Being nudist is different from on purpose highlighting a body part which is considered sexual. It may not be for male gaze but it is not wrong to wonder, why our society has such clothing norms for women but not for men.

Mmhmmn · 22/09/2023 14:48

I think that swimsuit is awful. It's so weird how it looks like one style from the front then you see a full arse from the back. It's overtly sexualised and very of these times. I'd feel like a baboon wearing something like that.

StarlightLady · 22/09/2023 15:05

We all have bums, get over it. Stop trying to police others.

BananaPyjamaLlama · 22/09/2023 15:21

Because men like such things. "Because men" is far too often the reason.

ButterCrackers · 22/09/2023 15:23

The Borat swimsuit style should be made for men by the big name brands. It’s unequal that just women have the backside of their swimsuit missing

MasterBeth · 22/09/2023 15:49

Sweedey · 21/09/2023 19:19

Your butt and genitals aren't anywhere near your thigh on the average person?😂

But surely the point is that you're not showing your butt(hole) or your genitals.

You're showing an expanse of flesh that's pretty much like looking at a thigh or a belly. Someone mentioned higher up the thread that "you can nearly see her cervix" - but... you can't!

Fallingthroughclouds · 22/09/2023 15:55

Why do people never whinge about the female gaze. Don't like it don't buy it. I don't think it's right to pick on people for their fashion choices.

I went wild swimming not so long ago there was a man with a thong on. I glanced once then didn't bother looking again. They are out there if men want to buy them they can.

I feel like buying this suit just to spite some of the judgemental, sneering types on here. Its just a shame it would cover up my massive norks.

🤣🤣🤣 let's get a gang together dressed in these and go find OP's local pool.

Doingmybest12 · 22/09/2023 16:39

Where ever the wish, need, motivation or interest comes from at the end of the day people make choices based on what they think is fashionable and stylish and how they want to be seen. You can't stop people making their choices (even though we probably all want to draw line somewhere ) .

Try getting a boudoir shoot done and considering putting a pic up in your bedroom. Someone had a thread about that the other day and posters absolutely lost their minds.

I don't think anyone is policing anyone.

If people want to go out in public looking completely ridiculous and deeply unattractive, that's their prerogative.

looking completely ridiculous and deeply unattractive

IN YOUR OPINION

There's nothing unattractive imo about that model. Shame on you for putting people down. Are you on the FWR boards too? Freedom for women, rights for women, but hey sluts, cover up eh?

Hypocrite.

I'll make sure you can see it through the window for all those nosey ones 😂

I think she looks incredible in that swimsuit, not ridiculous or deeply unattractive, unlike your comment.

I wasn't thinking so much about the woman in the advert, but about the kinds of women in real life who troll around with their buttocks hanging out. I'd say the same about men who have their trouser crotch half way down their legs and their bum cracks clearly visible.

The woman in the advert looks like an attractive woman with a good figure wearing a ridiculous swimming costume.

If I am on the FWR boards, I'm not aware of it. I'm not particularly ideological about women's rights so I'd be surprised if I were.

I'm a snob but I'm not generally a hypocrite.

allhellcantstopusnow · 22/09/2023 17:48

Women really are awful to other women aren't they.

But it clearly is, at least to some people, as swimwear that displays the bum cheeks is widely available these days.

Doesn't bother me, just interesting how things change.

Don’t be ridiculous. There is absolutely nothing hypocritical about saying other women can wear what they want, but I think it’s hideous. There’s nothing anti feminist about it either. We aren’t all obliged to stand around cheering inanely like performing seals just because another woman is doing something.
