Tesco is Discontinuing My Cereal

RhymesWithTangerine · 22/08/2023 15:24

Look, I know there are bigger problems, but damn, Tesco - it was delicious and my breakfasting heart is broken.

I kind of knew the writing was on the wall when it went up to £4 for 500g. It’s hard to prioritise granola during a cost of living crisis, but I was prepared to. Tesco has just wimped out.

AIBU to think supermarkets inflict untold suffering on their customers when they discontinue objectively delicious food?

Which one is it?

Which one is it?

This was the point where I realised 'my cereal' isn't a thing they sell and OP was referring to their chosen cereal Blush

I agree though OP, I hate it when they do that.

Cosycover · 22/08/2023 15:39

So selfish.
Asda discontinued their beef sausages years ago and I'm still not over it.

What granola is it?

topnoddy · 22/08/2023 16:23

I'm not over the loss of toastie toppers !

RhymesWithTangerine · 22/08/2023 17:41

Its the SPOON granola - the cinnamon and pecan one.

if there are any lawyers on the thread, maybe I have a claim in damages? Distress?

I feel you. Still mourning the loss of egg and tomato on rye from Pret. It must be 20 years now, but I'm not over it. Never will be.

Igneococcus · 22/08/2023 17:46

Amazon sells 5 boxes for £19.95

TropicalTrama · 22/08/2023 17:53

You can still get it at Waitrose, I’m surprised it isn’t considered part of their essentials range!

LoobyDop · 22/08/2023 17:55

Dorset Cereals and Jordans both do really good granola at that price point. Can’t comment on the flavour as I like the nutty ones. Aldi also do one for £2.50, but I can’t quite make the change yet- so I understand your pain.

MymateDave · 22/08/2023 18:05

It’s not discontinued in all stores. My tesco app is showing extra stores will still stock it

And M&S tzatziki circa 2013. With dill. It was the bomb. Even people who don’t like dill loved it.

I think M&S were just ahead of their time with that recipe.

Tesco has no such excuse - they know we love pecans and cinnamon.

It's the feeling of desertion that hurts. That tzatziki sounds amazing by the way.

I feel your pain. I felt the same when Morrisons stopped selling their cardamon and honey granola :(

Iam4eels · 22/08/2023 18:22

Morrisons used to sell this Indian-inspired veggie burger, it was like a vegetable curry in burger form and was so good in a bun with yoghurt and mint sauce. Bastards discontinued it.

PinkFootstool · 22/08/2023 18:25

Waitrose no longer sell the lemon Tesseire syrup. No one else stocks it either. Even Amazon want to scalp me £12/bottle for it or I can pay import prices and buy in bulk from a French website.

I am bereft.

So, I've written to Lidl to beg them to add French sirop to French week. Maybe I need a petition for anyone else in a similar position?

SecretVictoria · 22/08/2023 18:26

I accidentally made granola today when trying to make flapjacks, so you could try that 🤣.

I do feel your pain though, hate it when something I love disappears.

Have you tried Ocado? I get my Tiessere from there, not tried the lemon one but they usually have Cherry & Raspberry.

Beamur · 22/08/2023 18:27

DD is still furious about the loss of Tesco own brand Lincolnshire style vegetarian sausages..

TrickorTreacle · 22/08/2023 18:28

Years ago, Wetherspoons replaced their carbonara with pasta alfredo. It's a similar dish but the carbonara was way better. Still miss it now.

BellaJuno · 22/08/2023 18:30

I feel your pain (and it sounds delicious!) I’m still mourning coconut Feast ice-creams

Ocado do! I may or may not have bought six bottles in one go a few weeks ago!!

Bluetrews25 · 22/08/2023 18:30

I used to make my own, a recipe similar to the one posted above - oil, boiling water, syrup mixed up, add oats. Bake but stir it every few mins so it toasts all over. Add dried fruit after so it doesn't burn. But toast any nuts and seeds you want in the mix.

I'm missing taramasalata. Not been able to find that gorgeous pink saltiness anywhere for ages. Asda used to do it in the summer.

musicforthesoul · 22/08/2023 18:31

Ah no, I love that granola as well. I had no idea it was being discontinued! It's one of the only ones I've found i actually like.

I'm still not over a "new and improved" recipe change to my favourite samosas which utterly ruined them.

4catsaremylife · 22/08/2023 18:32

I'm coeliac and haven't forgiven M&S for stopping their GF cook at home farmhouse loaf 😭 and that was years ago. Having strict dietary requirements is rubbish when shops discontinue foods on a whim
