How much do you roughly drink per day?

I think I'm about to discover I seriously don't drink anywhere near enough....

I roughly drink a day:
3 teas
500ml other juice/soda/rarely water 😳😳

I'm only asking as I'm wondering if I am dehydrated a lot of the time.. I just don't feel like I need to drink much 😬

Cup and a half of decent coffee, cup of decaf, about 2.5/3 litres of water. I wee about once an hour and breastfeeding so thirsty all the time.

Aquamarine1029 · 22/08/2023 00:54

I have a cup of coffee in the morning, a glass of wine at night, sometimes two, and I drink water consistently all day long. As I've gotten older, I can definitely feel dehydration setting in. If I go one day without drinking enough water, I can definitely feel the difference in my skin. I think chronic dehydration is a serious issue for many people.

Shady23 · 22/08/2023 00:57

Lots!
6 mugs of tea (mix of normal and decaf)
Usually about a litre of water while exercising
Then maybe another litre of weak squash

Hambokki · 22/08/2023 01:04

I’ll usually drink a glass of water when I first wake up because I’m thirsty. Then a glass of kombucha with breakfast. Probably 4 glasses of water throughout day (one of them might be a can of sparkling water). A very diluted juice with lunch and another with dinner. Maybe another diluted juice while watching TV or relaxing. And a glass of water by my bedside in case I get thirsty in the night. It sounds like so much when I write it all out!

Turquoisa80 · 22/08/2023 01:07

Coffee and green tea first thing in the morning, then a milky tea,500ml water bottle, another herbal tea in the afternoon and then a glass of water with dinner

RuffledKestrel · 22/08/2023 01:07

Probably between 4-8 mugs of tea or coffee and I've usually always got a pint glass of squash near me if I'm at home or work. Probably go through 4 or 5 glasses a day.

dehydratedandcarbohydrated · 22/08/2023 01:13

😳

I can't imagine drinking anywhere near that amount! If I have a can of soda that will last me hours. I think I need to force myself to drink more 😬

How often do you wee and is it ever clear or nearly clear? What’s your skin like?

VeridicalVagabond · 22/08/2023 01:16

Cup of tea with breakfast, then I have a big 3.5l water bottle that I finish over the course of the day. I usually have a couple of cups of green tea as well if I'm working from home.

I used to be a sporadic drinker too, having maybe 3 cups of tea and a small bottle of water through the day. I feel lots better since forcing myself into the habit of drinking more!

dehydratedandcarbohydrated · 22/08/2023 01:21

@AnneLovesGilbert

Skin isn't great - it's not awful but it's definitely not the best.

My wee goes from sometimes looking dehydrated and others it's clear.

Directed at me?

dehydratedandcarbohydrated · 22/08/2023 01:24

I think the reason I have got into a habit of barely drinking is because I have a major ocd based germ phobia so I don't use public toilets. Whenever I go out I never drink anything so that I won't need a wee. It's ridiculous but I get so worried about even having a sip of a drink before I'd go out just to prevent using any public toilets. And now I'm stuck in this stupid habit that I barely drink 🤬

Youdontsay87 · 22/08/2023 01:24

2 coffees in the morning and a cup of tea in the afternoon.
And it varies with water, usually aim for at least 2 pints as a bare minimum. Although we're quite into fizzy water so when we have it in I'll drink 4 or so 500ml bottles of the stuff.
It varies, depending on how hot the weather is.
I know I should drink more.

I've always been in the habit of drinking squash since I was a kid. It's kinda stuck through adulthood.

I don't often get headaches but if I go for 4hrs+ without drinking anything then I'll start to get a bit of a "fuzzy" headache. That's my first sign I should drink something

dehydratedandcarbohydrated · 22/08/2023 01:26

@RuffledKestrel

I'm finding I'm getting headaches quite a bit recently too.. I thought it was stress but maybe this is also dehydration

It's difficult to drink 2-3 litres. I tried once with one of those bottles and it's definitely a bit of a chore but I think if you can aim for 1.5 litres a day that should be enough unless you're really into exercise or it's a really hot sweaty day.

PlantDoctor · 22/08/2023 01:31

I used to not drink much water, but I kind of forced myself using one of those tracker apps. Now I find I feel really dehydrated if I drink my old levels of water. I grab half a cup or a cup of water pretty much every time I go into the kitchen, plus (too much) coffee on top. Might be worth setting up that kind of habit, or getting one of those giant bottles with water volume labels?

OtterInDisgrace · 22/08/2023 01:40

Wow. So many people barely drinking any water and only drinking diuretics that dehydrate like coffee and tea.
I started drinking a 1.5l bottle of still water in my teens as a friend said it helped with skin problems (teen acne kind of stuff) and the habit stuck. So at least a 1.5l of bottle of water a day. Then one or two green teas. A glass of juice. Wine of an evening. But always - always - a bottle of mineral water close by.

JustABitLonger · 22/08/2023 01:41

Most days I have at least 3 cups of tea and a litre of water, sometimes more, depending how much exercise/sport I do.

TheFormidableMrsC · 22/08/2023 01:41

2 or 3 teas, 2 coffees and around 2/3L of water. I also sometimes have a fruit tea or two. I drink plenty.

Remaker · 22/08/2023 01:47

2 cups of black tea, 1 cup of peppermint tea and 1.5-2 L of water. Sometimes I have a ginger beer or a glass of juice/squash as a treat. I’ve given up alcohol temporarily for health reasons.

LucyGru · 22/08/2023 02:18

I never stop drinking something!

2 coffees
2 large mugs of tea
Large glass of diluted juice (1/4 juice to 3/4 water) if the bloody kids haven't finished it already.
3 or 4 pints of water through the day.
Glass or two of wine on Fridays and Saturdays.
Pint of water before bed.
Herbal tea (sometimes 2).
Glass of water by my bed overnight, which I usually drink half of.
And a bottle of water when I leave the house.

Laserbeam24 · 22/08/2023 02:20

I'm the same as you. Depends on the day, some days I'll drink maybe 1.5L of squash/pop, in 3 glasses if that makes sense? One in the morning, afternoon and evening. Some other days I'll have 4 mugs of coffee and another 4 glasses of squash/pop.

I can't remember the last time I drank plain water - it makes me feel sick 🫣

It's like my brain doesn't register that I'm thirsty.

BitOutOfPractice · 22/08/2023 02:24

It’s something I also need to work on.

I have maybe 4 teas through the day. Maybe two glasses of water. And maybe some pop or squash in the evening. It’s not enough.

Springbaby2023 · 22/08/2023 02:35

Three cups of coffee or tea and probably at least two litres of water a day, if not three. I used to be a headache sufferer and water has helped a lot. Now I don’t even notice it, it’s just a habit to drink so much. Mind you I am BF-ing st the mo so probably more than I would usually. Most annoying thing is how often I need the toilet!
