How much do you roughly drink per day?

I think I'm about to discover I seriously don't drink anywhere near enough....

I roughly drink a day:
3 teas
500ml other juice/soda/rarely water 😳😳

I'm only asking as I'm wondering if I am dehydrated a lot of the time.. I just don't feel like I need to drink much 😬

I bought a Stanley cup and drink about 2 maybe 3 of those per day and they're 1.2L.

GarlicGrace · 22/08/2023 03:36

3 litres of coffee a day. A couple of glasses of water if it's really hot. For PP, tea and coffee don't dehydrate you; they're mostly water! They make you pee a bit more often, is all.

Catsmere · 22/08/2023 03:43

One or two mugs of coffee, three mugs of tea generally. I used to drink a lot of water as well when I was working. Now I don’t, and found recently I’m dehydrated enough that it’s affected my kidney function. Trouble with chronic dehydration is that you don’t feel thirsty, and have to get back into the habit of drinking water (or unsweetened fruit juice, for instance). I’m trying an alarm on my phone to remind me. The alarm’s a bit of a dud but it makes me watch the clock to see if it’s working, so I have a drink of water anyway!

SlowlyLosing · 22/08/2023 04:10

I drink about 6 mugs of herbal tea a day. Don't like cold drinks in general but get a thirst for water in hot weather.

Water intake matters more than how much you drink - what do you eat?

As I said I dont like cold drinks and also don't like tea and coffee so before herbal teas became a thing I didn't drink much at all. As a child and teen I might have a glass of milk but otherwise all my water came from food.

Humans are the only mammals who drink when they're not thirsty. For all of history until maybe a hundred years ago humans were the same. I can't help being amused by all the people carrying giant water bottles around shopping centres, sure they can survive until they get home. I do think a lot of it is a marketing ploy!

The colour of your pee is sufficient to know.

SlowlyLosing · 22/08/2023 04:13

Actually, is the colour of your pee really a good guide? We're told it should be light straw colour at darkest.

If the vet asked you to bring in a sample from your dog they'd be horrified if it was nearly clear.

Minimum of 3L of water or SF squash. I have an emotional attachment to my water bottle. 1-2 coffee's and 1 tea at work. Maybe a Diet Coke in the evening.
Add wine on top of that if out through the week or weekends.

Sirzy · 22/08/2023 04:16

I always make sure I have my water bottle close by now. I used to drink stupid amounts of Diet Coke and very little water so I have now stopped drinking the coke at all and have 3 or 4 litres of water a day instead

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 22/08/2023 04:29

This is really interesting. I drink 1 coffee and 1 tea a day. I drink between 3 and 4 litres a day of water.

I have a can of diet coke maybe once a week when the urge takes me (used to be hooked).

I can go weeks without alcohol, but alcohol is in addition to the regular days fluids. I bring my water bottle to the pub.

I take a lot of medication and that leaves me very dehydrated.

CheetosCheerios · 22/08/2023 04:34

I’ve always been a thirsty person.

Pint of water & a cup of tea when I wake up.

2 coffees in a row when I get to work, then probably about 1.5 litres of water at work.

Tea when I get home.

At least another litre of water during the evening, and sometimes more tea.

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 22/08/2023 04:45

I have an emotional attachment to my water bottle too, it comes everywhere.. I made a cover for it so can carry it, strap over my arm or add another strap to make it cross body. Tesco mint sipper bottle 750ml. I like the straw 😁. Also safe to put in a bag.

RantyAnty · 22/08/2023 04:47

1 glass of water first thing in the morning.
1 coffee
Then 1.5 to 2 liters of water per day.
Sometimes I'll make up a jug of agua frescas in the summer.

I avoid any drinks before bed as I don't want to be up all night.

1 or 2 cans of soda a week.

No alcohol.

Purditnin · 22/08/2023 04:59

Eight pints of water throughout the day and a glass of wine (or two) a few times a week. That’s it. I have much less variety than most of you! 😊

mathanxiety · 22/08/2023 05:02

About 60 ozs of water on a good day, some still, some fizzy. 45-50 otherwise. Plus a 12 Oz mug of black tea daily amd sometimes a mug of green tea.

CrazyFrogDingDing · 22/08/2023 05:51

I drink 15+ coffees per day, 3 of those are just for breakfast.
A large glass of pomegranate juice with evening meal.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 22/08/2023 05:57

Around 4 cups of tea and about 2 litres water . I wee about 4 tines a day

Nopenopenopenopenopenope · 22/08/2023 06:02

OtterInDisgrace · 22/08/2023 01:40

Wow. So many people barely drinking any water and only drinking diuretics that dehydrate like coffee and tea.
I started drinking a 1.5l bottle of still water in my teens as a friend said it helped with skin problems (teen acne kind of stuff) and the habit stuck. So at least a 1.5l of bottle of water a day. Then one or two green teas. A glass of juice. Wine of an evening. But always - always - a bottle of mineral water close by.

Coffee and tea don't dehydrate you.

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 22/08/2023 06:05

I never drink plain water.

Normally I have a coffee (or two) plus a glass of fruit of juice for breakfast. Nothing during the day at work as I work outdoors with animals and would need to pee constantly.

When I get home I have an iced coffee or a glass of Ribena, then a can or two of Pepsi during the afternoon, plus milk before bed.

I have autism and lots of sensory issues around taste and smell.

plehpleh · 22/08/2023 06:12

1 x tea
1 x iced coffee
2.2 litres of water (I have a massive 2.2 litre bottle on my desk every day and it changed my life when I bought it about 3 years ago)
Squash with dinner
Hot chocolate

Tiddlywinks63 · 22/08/2023 06:19

2 large mugs coffee, 3-4 pints sparkling water with a little squash and probably a mug of tea.

QuizzlyBears · 22/08/2023 06:23

Coffee and tea won’t dehydrate you. The caffeine can act as a diuretic, but there’s enough water in those drinks that you’re really unlikely to be dehydrated from it.

I drink a lot - on average over the day, 2.5l of water (I have a Stanley cup and it might well be a marketing gimmick but it works!), usually another litre of still flavoured water at work. 2 coffees, sometimes 3. A can of Diet Coke or Pepsi Max mid afternoon, a pint of weak squash with dinner, and a herbal tea before bed.

WWYDIYWMRN · 22/08/2023 06:32

About 6 coffees and 2l of water. Sometimes wine too.

Gadgetfreak · 22/08/2023 06:36

2/3 cups of coffee. 2/3 cans diet of coke. Sometimes 2/3 glasses of wine. If I’m exercising maybe a few hundred mls of water but otherwise I never drink water. I know I should. I don’t feel dehydrated though.

highfidelity · 22/08/2023 06:37

3-4 litres of water a day either room temperature or boiled/hot.

I don't drink tea, coffee, soft or fizzy drinks, nor any milk or milk substitutes either.

DustyLee123 · 22/08/2023 06:37

A pint of water and 5 mugs of tea/coffee.

Zanatdy · 22/08/2023 06:37

Too much tea. A little Coke Zero, water if I’m out walking (2-3 times per week). I need to swap some of the tea for plain water
