How much do you roughly drink per day?

I think I'm about to discover I seriously don't drink anywhere near enough....

I roughly drink a day:
3 teas
500ml other juice/soda/rarely water 😳😳

I'm only asking as I'm wondering if I am dehydrated a lot of the time.. I just don't feel like I need to drink much 😬

Same OP. Like 2-3 cups of tea and maybe one big glass of water.

However, if I concentrate I can drink tonnes of water. I used to be very good at making myself do this but the last few months I’ve been rubbish.

DoraSpenlow · 22/08/2023 20:19

I know I don't drink enough so over the last month or so I have been trying to drink 2 litres. Mix of tea, coffee, sugar free squash and plain water. I just spend all day in and out of the loo! Can't get round the supermarket without having to abandon my trolley and have to hope no one takes it away. Can't go on a journey of more than an hour without having to find a loo. And last night I was up 6 times in the night. Don't know how much longer I can do this. Someone told me your body gets used to it but not mine. Somedays I feel I might as well just sit on the loo because I can pour it in one end and it can just come straight out the other end.

Got to go, need to go again.

2 litres minimum. I have a helpful bottle with the times on it to keep me on track, otherwise I'd barely drink anything.

43ontherocksporfavor · 22/08/2023 20:29

Mug of tea first thing. Then an espresso with breakfast (on school hols) , glass of water after an hour walking the dog, cup of tea. Glass of water with lunch. Probably a coffee or tea in the afternoon. Water with dinner. Water after evening dog walk, tea at some point before bed.
When I’m at work I get through 2 metal drinks bottles of water.

43ontherocksporfavor · 22/08/2023 20:30

@DoraSpenlow that amount of urine sounds excessive.

Chipsahoy · 22/08/2023 20:36

What I don’t get is, if you drink a ton then have to pee a lot, doesn’t that mean you don’t need it? So my dh drinks so much water but pees every two hours. More if he has coffee. I can easily go four to six hours. Pee is always light. So am I dehydrated and be over hydrated? Is that a thing? Confused!

Mew2 · 22/08/2023 20:37

So the NHS guidelines are 3 litres of water a day
I drink 3-4 litres normally 2.5 litres before lunch most days- if I don't I get migraines. I will drink a 750ml bottle by 8am, and then 2 more 750ml and a 500ml by lunch 12.30ish, a 500ml oasis for lunch and one or two 750ml bottles at night. I used to be rubbish at drinking but my headaches were debilitating (dizziness, flashing lights, room spinning, light headed when sitting up) and I got them pretty much daily. Now not so often once or twice a month

Wonderwhyibother · 22/08/2023 20:39

Average 2-3 litres of water daily and the occasional (maybe twice a week) 1/2 litre cup of squash. If I'm out for an evening/ at an event/have a takeaway then might have a can of pop/hot chocolate as a treat. No tea or coffee as cant stand them and don't drink alcohol. Not a health freak just prefer water.

LakieLady · 22/08/2023 20:43

4-6 pints of water (occasionally one or two of those will be squash), 6-8 big mugs of tea.

I'm trying to cut down a bit in the evenings, as I always need a pee in the night, and have started to have trouble getting back to sleep afterwards.

Benn following this thread as I had a question about water intake

An earlier poster mentioned something about 1 lt to 25kgs .

Is that correct?
I have a lowish BMI (/18)
.
I am aiming for 1.5 lts.
And I am doing.
But it is messing up with my hunger/food signals.

1.5 lts water
4-5 cups of normal tea .

Yes, they tell dieters to drink water before meals so they feel more full. With your BMI, it's definitely important to eat! Also, food has water in it.

4-5 cups of tea is about 1.5 litres, which is already more than the NHS recommendation. Drink water as well if you want, just not in the hour before eating.

InSpainTheRain · 22/08/2023 20:48

Spread throughout the say I have:
3 pints of water
1 pint of water with a vit c tablet in
1 coffee, black
1.sleep tea.at night

I know! It feels like much more is coming out than going in. I never felt thirsty or had headaches before, I only started drinking more because friends kept telling me I didn't drink enough.

Susuwatariandkodama · 22/08/2023 20:53

Today I’ve had 3 cups of tea and one small glass of cola as I needed something cold.

In general I drink 4/5 cups of tea a day, if I’m exercising I’ll get through 1-2 600ml bottles of flavoured water.

Susuwatariandkodama · 22/08/2023 20:54

My issues is I can’t stand the taste of water and I don’t really enjoy cold drinks in general 😬

gaggiagirl · 22/08/2023 21:01

A coffee in the morning and a mouthful of pop at tea time most days. Some days I'll have a peppermint tea or a hot chocolate as well.
I don't feel thirst. I suffered terribly with my kidneys many years ago but don't suffer these days. Maybe my body is used to it.
I do eat a lot of fruit and vegetables though so maybe that adds to the overall fluids.

tillylula · 22/08/2023 21:01

I ALWAYS have a drink with me. I panic if I don't. Unless I'm just nipping to the shop down the road but I will drink before I go and again when i get back home. I probably fill up my 700ml bottle 5 times a day. Then twice at night.

I also have emetophobia so totally get the germ thing. But im also heavily pregnant so I have accepted that sometimes I have to use a public toilet, and my 3yo also needs it sometimes when we're out. There's alot of DONT TOUCH ANYTHING. Anyone that hears me must think I'm a dick for repeatedly saying it 🤣

43ontherocksporfavor · 22/08/2023 21:01

@DoraSpenlow I think you could probably slow down and only up it if your wee gets darker than pale yellow 😉

That’s not what the NHS recommends! 6-8 glasses of FLUID a day (about 1.2-1.5l) Water, tea, coffee, milk, squash… it all counts.

You need to drink enough that your urine is pale straw colour. The exact amount will vary depending on what you eat (lots of food with high water content means you don’t have to drink as much), the temperature, how active you are etc.

GarlicGrace · 22/08/2023 21:06

I ONLY DRINK COFFEE

I'm not dehydrated, and my kidney function's tested every year. Caffeine is a diuretic, but comes nowhere near expelling all the water you dissolved it in!

If coffee was 'dehydrating', I'd be gasping for a drink and my heart rate would be astronomical, right? This barmy myth was probably started by a marketing agency for bottled water.

Bandyarsia · 22/08/2023 21:07

2 cans of diet soda, that's it, not a drop more. No tea, coffee, water, juice, nowt. Horrifically bad.

Although I used to have 2 or 3 glasses of wine every night but cut that shit out years ago so at least that's something positive ha ha.

Bandyarsia · 22/08/2023 21:09

I feel like a wizened, dried up, dehydrated, septic prune after reading what the rest of you are drinking! I need to sort myself out!

megletthesecond · 22/08/2023 21:11

3 teas
1 fresh orange juice / smoothie
Approx 2 litres of water. Usually a bit more.
I pee a lot in the daytime. Never need to get up in the night. Water next to bed for when I wake up. I walk a lot too.
Never get headaches, never had a UTI.

Honeypickle · 22/08/2023 21:11

2-3 cans of Diet Coke
1-2 cups of tea
2-3 G&Ts

Don't worry. It's the Massive Salad Bunch out in force 😉

Hollyisalrightactuallysorry · 22/08/2023 21:20

@DoraSpenlow whilst not wanting to panic you and of course could be nothing, it might be worth having a read of early signs of diabetes as one of them is peeing a lot, especially at night. What you say you drink genuinely shouldn't have you peeing 6 times a night or unable to do a food shop without going to the loo

I absolutely need to drink more-and less of the fizzy stuff! 😬
