to shop in M&S kids? Tried on this playsuit in size 13-14 years, so not even the biggest size, and I've ordered it online for £20. Along with a stretch blue dress in the sale for £4.50.

I think with the right shoes and accessories, so much of the clothes for teens can be fine, especially for holidays.

Also, a little bit wtf. I don't think Zara Kids works quite the same size/age ratio......

This would never occur to me! I do think M and S sizing has gone on the wonk. Last year everything size 8 I tried on was too big for me but I'm definitely size 8 and have been buying the same size for about 16 years. Definitely going to try it.

I had a friend with small feet who bought kids shoes and saved the tax.

SoRad · 12/08/2023 08:44

Does it not depend on height?

Howtohideasausage · 12/08/2023 08:44

I do this with Boden age 16 stuff too. I’m a 10/12.

I've not attempted trousers tbh. But I'm sure some of the joggers look OK for me. I'm 5'6

Whenever I do this the arms are really tight. I wear a size 8 top but I don't have teenage skinny arms.

Girasoli · 12/08/2023 08:48

I do this too - size 13/14 is perfect on me in most kids ranges. I also prefer girls boots and trainers to women's (and ankle bit I tend to find too loose on women's boots). Just a bit embarrassing trying the shoes on!

LookingEasy · 12/08/2023 08:48

Some of M and S kids stuff age 16 is huge. Too big for my small frame. Their adults’ stuff is sized big too. I hate that clothes sizes are not standardised.

But as a woman in my fifties there is nothing in the kids’ section that would appeal to me, other than some shoes.

AngelinaFibres · 12/08/2023 08:53

When I was young ( 30s) I was 8/10 and gap age 13/14 clothes fitted me. I'm 5'4" so the length was fine.

LadyKenya · 12/08/2023 08:53

I have been buying from the children's range for years. Some of the clothes for children are very big. I think that the clothes have gotten bigger personally, which is not necessarily a good thing.

oh must try this. as someone who is a size 8 and xs (god forbide ) I am hating the fact size 8 are now too big when try on in the shops. and I can't pull off the oversized look..I now go by eu size if its an eu 34 I know it wil fit 80 per cent of time. just to note m and s call their size 6 a 34. where river island call their 8 a 34

Wenfy · 12/08/2023 08:56

I’m a size 16 and can often get tops I like from M&S kids. Sizing is very hit and miss.

manontroppo · 12/08/2023 08:56

Yep, been doing this for years. Have a fab zebra print dress and wide leg jeans!

mainbrochus · 12/08/2023 08:57

Oooo I do this for H&M, they have some lovely prints of you are quick

Cosycover · 12/08/2023 08:57

Primark L and XL kids is good for this too. Especially the hoodies/PJs.

TanteRose · 12/08/2023 08:59

And you’ll spend the VAT on tequila? Wink

Caspianberg · 12/08/2023 09:00

Do this for ski stuff. Kids clothing is tax free in uk. So if you buy teenage ski salopettes for example they usually fit and much cheaper. My spyder brand were about £130 v adults identical looking at £299

KajsaKavat · 12/08/2023 09:01

I used to shop in new look kids section in my twenties coz they had say cooler clothes, lol.

I often buy 13-14 for myself and it’s hilarious because that size is now too small for my 12 year old.

bellac11 · 12/08/2023 09:02

I dream of being able to do this!!

Im losing lots of weight but may never be a size 10,,,, but a funny shopping experience yesterday, I bought some work shirts in Asda, size 14

My actual measurements on a tape measure are a size 20.

And I reckon I should have got a 12 in hindsight because Im trying to buy things that wont be massive on me very quickly as the weight comes off

Why on earth are clothes so big these days?

KvotheTheBloodless · 12/08/2023 09:04

It's ace - I get leggings, trousers etc. from the kids' range (I'm 5'7") and it's tax free, hurrah!

It's sad that so many kids are so much wider than kids used to be, though.

Lemonyyy · 12/08/2023 09:05

My daughter is 13, would wear 13-14 in M&S and also buy adult size 6 from some places, so I guess it makes sense that an 8 would be 15-16ish. She tends to borrow my clothes rather than me nicking hers though 😂

So we all think we're teeny tiny little wisps of air...

spudsuliked · 12/08/2023 09:07

Ooh such a good post, I’ve been doing this for years (especially things like thermals which are so much cheaper in kids section) when my kids were younger they loved it too as we could have matching outfits.

Hibiscrubbed · 12/08/2023 09:08

Love buying kids clothes. I like Ralph Lauren jumpers.
