Last night, totally out of the blue. He said "fancy helping me out with this?" 🤮

I replied with 😱 and he said "is that it?" I just replied saying "I'm busy." And it's been left at that.

I'm mortified. For context he's about 12 years older, married with a young child.

Maybe I've been too nice about it, but he could make things difficult for me at work which is why I replied in the way I did.

Aibu not to have been more harsh? I feel so uncomfortable about it.

Thinking of you today OP - hope it goes well with HR if that is the course of action you have decided upon.

Hope this revolting specimen gets fired.

Sigmama · 07/08/2023 08:58

Good luck 🤞

Vieve1325 · 07/08/2023 09:05

No don’t go to HR - go to your line manager and they will instigate the appropriate action and escalation (which will include support from HR). I would also be contacting the police.

This is serious sexual harassment and he should be suspended pending internal investigation, alongside what the police will do.

JennyDreadful · 07/08/2023 09:19

Thinking of you OP, hope all goes well today. You are doing the right thing to report him and I am sorry that this happened to you.

It is not a line manager issue as it is not an opperational problem so the (more junior) line manager has no authority to make a appropiate decision. Only the man's direct manager (possible personal bias) or HR (sole focus of protecting the company) have the authority.

Thinking of you today @Fiascoo stay strong

GolgafrinchamB · 07/08/2023 09:52

Checking in you wish you well, OP

BonBon20 · 07/08/2023 11:59

Good luck @Fiascoo xxx

OP report to HR and log with non emergency police line. If it's a large organisation I'm sure they'll take it seriously out of fear you'll go to the press. I strongly doubt they'd want a headline like "big organisation sacks victim of sexual misconduct for reporting to HR" in the press. Especially with all the violence against women and girls and #MeToo movement. Wouldn't look great.
I'm sorry this happened to you. He's disgusting.

LittleMissUnreasonable · 07/08/2023 12:29

My friend on work experience got someone senior sacked for an inappropriate comment, and this was in the mid 2000s where we weren't as switched on as we are now. Please feel you can report it OP. This should be taken very seriously

jeaux90 · 07/08/2023 12:36

This would be taken very seriously in most large organisations OP come back on and tell us what happened. Lots of us women on here in senior roles and HR are very happy to give you advice.

Catsanfan · 08/08/2023 10:19

Amy update OP?

LittleMissUnreasonable · 08/08/2023 11:00

Hopefully he's currently having the riot act read to him by HR and is on his way to an instant dismissal.

Unsolicited dick pics were pathetic in 2013 from 18 year olds, never mind middle aged men in 2023 😒I know people don't like what a 'woke' society we are but I'm glad this isn't longer acceptable and women aren't just gaslit into thinking it's funny/flirty/"get over it"

Yujismum · 08/08/2023 14:04

Having problems with web. How are things OP?

Absolutely serves him right for commuting career suicide, with the intellect of a slug.

PumpkinPieWalnuts · 08/08/2023 18:51

Oh I hope you reported this to HR! It doesn’t matter that you sent an emoji in response - and it actually makes things worse for him that he is so senior to you. What a creep. Deserves to lose his job over this.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 10/08/2023 13:52

Any update OP?

7eleven · 10/08/2023 16:33

It’s pretty clear the OP didn’t say anything. I think she was concerned about the consequences.

Holdupman · 10/08/2023 17:15

Wow
you’d hound be able to flirt with someone without them showing you their genitals anyway
thsi sort of victim blaming is why the op doesn’t want to report

luckylavender · 10/08/2023 17:18

Fiascoo · 05/08/2023 14:37

He is very senior to me, I am worried no one will take me seriously.

He sent it out with working hours, does that matter?

No. Report him.

Sadly, I have to agree with you.

JennyDreadful · 11/08/2023 17:08

OP, I hope you are OK.

Fiascoo · 12/08/2023 20:26

Hey everyone, thanks for all your well wishes and messages; I really appreciate it.

Sorry I haven't been back, I only really have time to post here on Saturday evenings.

PP's were correct in a sense, I chickened out of the Monday meeting and made an excuse.

However, I spoke to a friend and she made me go to HR on Wednesday. She came with me.

It was extremely awkward and I felt humiliated (silly, I know).

The meeting was left at "we'll get back to you." I don't know whether there will be an investigation or anything like that, I'm not sure whether they took me seriously, but I'm glad I did it. Feels like a weight off.
