To think Catherine Tyldesley is a CF - cakegate

I can’t help but feel that when you’re in a position of privilege and a celeb of any description, you shouldn’t by asking small independent businesses for free shit...

But, if you do, at least own it. The video of her belittling “the cake lady” really shows what a tramp she actually is.

Cakegate: Ex-Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley hits back after 'bizarre' row with Three Little Birds Bakery over free cakes

Three Little Birds Bakery said it declined a request from an events agency to make a cake and 100 cupcakes for the birthday of a "well-known" celebrity - later revealed to be Tyldesley - in exchange for promotion on social media and in a magazine.

Ah, I stand very much corrected in my misguided ponderings - thanks, all, for the confirmations re my royal queries.

I'm very much not their biggest fan, but it's good to hear that they at least act honourably in that matter, and are not CFs at all.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 04/08/2023 01:09

the fact that she was throwing herself a ‘camp as tits’ birthday party on her husband’s actual birthday and he was getting a small cake while she was getting cupcakes for 100 and a three tier job.

Not that it really makes it much better, but I assumed it was her big 40th birthday on that very day and it was also his (non-milestone) birthday on the same day?

Not to derail, but I always remember that Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas share the same birthday - and he's 25 years older than she is - meaning that they must have both shared/will share a few actual milestone birthdays too (albeit obviously different milestones)!

I don’t think is true, hopefully one of the more experienced royal watchers will confirm but my understanding is the royals cannot accept freebies they are actually sent back and the royal warrant has nothing to do with royals being gifted stuff.

Definitely true, Canadian businessman Galen Weston paid for all of Charles/ PH/PW's polo for years. From their hats on their heads down to the nails on the ponies feet. Galen even flew wood from Canada to build stables to house their ponies at Belvedere.

They are very grabby around the Sultan Of Brunei and his family too (as was the Queen, who happily accepted very grand jewellery from the Sultan)

I thought Blanche Hunt (Deirdres mum) had come back from the dead 🤔

To think Catherine Tyldesley is a CF - cakegate
AutumnCrow · 04/08/2023 01:49

I thought she was channeling Mrs Merton, but yes - dear Blanche! I can see it.

IveHadItUpToHere · 04/08/2023 01:52

Her response was awful and so was the events company who tried to spin it that their email had been misunderstood.
There are lots of cfs who try to get people to work for free. It's not a new phenomenon. The event company should have put their hands up, worked out the comparative ad value they were offering and said they didn't mean to insult the baker. Catherine should have kept quiet. If she felt the need to say anything, it should have been to apologise and offer to pay for the cakes.
The only thing I thought was a bit mean about the bakery's response was revealing the theme for her party and that her DH was getting a cake too. Neither was necessary to prove the point about them asking for free cakes.

Kitkatcatflap · 04/08/2023 02:45

Agree that the video response was awful. If she knew nothing about it - why was she praising NVRland, they put her in that position. As for saying the cake lady craving exposure - just mean of spirit . Apologise - order and pay for a batch of cakes and send them to a community group/charity even as a good will gesture.

Anyone see the Three Little Birds cake for Mel B and 25th anniversary of Wannerbe - so clever and PAID for.

WiddlinDiddlin · 04/08/2023 04:17

Misconstrued?! PMSL nope, understood every single word.

'Give us cake. We're not paying in money. Heres an empty promise of further business after we feed your cake to a few pissed up, sniffy celebs who undoubtedly don't buy their own cake anyway!'

TeaAndTattoos · 04/08/2023 04:43

That video just made her look like a massive twat she isn’t that well known and hasn’t really done much since Corrie I struggle to understand how someone could be so dense she does know that exposure doesn’t pay the bills and yet here she is moaning that someone wouldn’t accept exposure in return for a load of free cakes it just beggars belief that she could be that tone deaf. She would’ve been really annoyed if the Corrie bosses had said to her we don’t want to pay you with money for any of this work instead we will pay you in exposure. If she wouldn’t work for plugs on social media then don’t be surprised when people who have real bills to pay say no to being paid in plugs on social media.

Exactly that’s what I thought how can they say it was misconstrued it wasn’t at all because that’s literally what they said we aren’t paying you for any of this we are expecting you to work for free. Where do people get this level of entitlement from.

Bunnycat101 · 03/08/2023 23:42

She came across as a massive dick really. I was trying to work out what was worse:

a) her agitated and rude video
b) the fact that she was throwing herself a ‘camp as tits’ birthday party on her husband’s actual birthday and he was getting a small cake while she was getting cupcakes for 100 and a three tier job.

I bet her in-laws hate her Grin

Saoirse82 · 04/08/2023 05:23

The brass neck on her!

She's made herself look a right eejit. Absolutely embarrassed for her.

MoustacheTwirler · 04/08/2023 05:32

She has really made a tit of herself. The bakery did not name her and her response comes across as petty and down right rude.

The OK magazine business was very strange too. CT looking aghast and saying she is not in talks with OK magazine when it is there in black and white from the PR company.

There were so many better ways she could have handled this and she chose the worse way possible. Grifter.

MoustacheTwirler · 04/08/2023 05:38

Justleaveitblankthen · 03/08/2023 23:04

What will she do about the party now I wonder? Jason Manford has already been booked to attend apparently 😂

Jason Manford is a real piece of work himself. I know someone who got in to a twitter spat with him one night and Jason actually wrote "you are jealous of me because I am richer than you." Jason then deleted all of his self- entitled tweets the next morning so there was no evidence.

Funnily enough, my friend works in the city and earns a fortune so probably unlikely that Jason earns more than him anyway!

Hayliebells · 04/08/2023 06:21

She needs a reminder to "stay classy". She's come off so badly in this.

Roselilly36 · 04/08/2023 06:29

I agree, appalling way to carry on, I expect she tried this for every aspect of the party, and other possessions she wants, can’t imagine it would just be a free cake she was after. She has been shown up and has tried to reflect blame on the bakery, it won’t work, people aren’t daft, she looks an even bigger fool now. Tbh I don’t watch soaps so I wouldn’t have a clue who she was anyway.

thebellagio · 04/08/2023 07:20

What irritates me about “influencers” is that exposure is meaningless if it’s not to the right people.

as a Leeds-based bakery, why would you want exposure to people in Cornwall/Scotland/Essex? It’s not like you can post the cakes (realistically) so you wouldn’t make any money from it. If it was a tangible product like clothing/accessories that you could easily post there’s a potential argument for widening your sales base…

on some of the PR journalist tools I use, they are absolutely inundated with requests from bloggers/influencers asking for “full size samples”

I’ve even seen one from a celeb couple asking for an entire bathroom refurb - and the best bit was, the actual brief specifically stated “it doesn’t matter what style/colour” - so they genuinely didn’t give a toss what their bathroom looked like as long as it was given for free!

Meeting · 04/08/2023 07:24

It's disgraceful but it's the culture society has created. Every few months a hotel/pub/bakery will go viral for something similar. Don't forget that so many of teens aspirations now are to become an 'influencer'. Make sure you're talking to your kids about this stuff.

SydneyJKL · 04/08/2023 07:24

What happened to ‘be kind’.
So many awful comments on here.

Yes, she hasn't come across well, we all make mistakes, but here we are again, commenting negatively on how she looks, her choice of party, her dad, etc etc etc.

It is a cake, it is a mishandled freebee - it is not damaging to any of us - when such a lot in the world is.

She doesn't deserve SM bullying.

Auntieofdragons · 04/08/2023 07:24

With a response like that I wouldn’t be surprised if more cake businesses etc come out and say they’ve had a similar email from her team. She comes across as very bitchy

In all honesty, I think it’s fine to ask for something in return for exposure though? Isn’t that literally how advertising works? You pay something (usually money but a cake here) and you get your products shown to people. There should be a contract involved etc. If the cake company didn’t need the exposure she could have politely turned it down or ignored.

Bluebellysmell · 03/08/2023 23:20

Katie price was begging for cake too a few days ago. After a themed cake with 3 days notice posted on her IG, which fits with one of her kids birthdays.
Didn't say she wanted it for free, but the implication is there.
Don't know many bakers who can drop everything and fit a cake in at a couple days notice. And if it is for her child as assumed, you know when their birthdays are surely, same day as last year and how ever many years before, why leave it to the last minute to ask?

Not the same thing because they aren't asking for free but on my local fb page there are often people requesting a "reasonably priced" decorator/cake maker/carpenter etc as if anyone doing a practical or creative job is meant to work for about £5/hour.

And people are always asking for cakes in a ridiculous time frame. Once someone asked on Christmas eve if there were any cake makers who could do something for 28th Dec. So a cake maker would likely have to work Christmas day and/or Boxing day with no advance notice!

Fizbosshoes · 04/08/2023 07:26

If the cake company didn’t need the exposure she could have politely turned it down or ignored.

They weren't impolite though

Dovetail40 · 04/08/2023 07:31

She got exposed. Grabby cow.

User98866 · 04/08/2023 07:31

Funny that this has been picked up by the MSM so much. It was even in the times! I think people are just so sick of CF ‘influencers’ thinking they can have their whole lives funded. I hadn’t seen the video but she comes across as completely vile. Just own it and apologise. Something that seems to be virtually impossible nowadays.

Theres no such thing as "be kind". Some people deserve to be called out on their bullshit.
