To think Catherine Tyldesley is a CF - cakegate

I can’t help but feel that when you’re in a position of privilege and a celeb of any description, you shouldn’t by asking small independent businesses for free shit...

But, if you do, at least own it. The video of her belittling “the cake lady” really shows what a tramp she actually is.

Cakegate: Ex-Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley hits back after 'bizarre' row with Three Little Birds Bakery over free cakes

Three Little Birds Bakery said it declined a request from an events agency to make a cake and 100 cupcakes for the birthday of a "well-known" celebrity - later revealed to be Tyldesley - in exchange for promotion on social media and in a magazine.

This happens to musicians all the time. Once our local MP asked musicians to pay for nothing on a day dedicated to boosting small businesses. Couldn't make it up.

OneSugar1 · 03/08/2023 23:21

textbook r/choosingbeggars - another freeloading cheapskate.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 03/08/2023 23:21

The theme was “camp as tits” apparently

What on earth does that even mean?! I'd have facetiously made them a very elegant, tasteful cake featuring some dear little feathered friends living in a tent Grin

I have a small online shop and have slowly built up a social media presence with my Instagram for it. I get multiple direct messages per week asking for free stuff. I have people constantly asking to ‘collab’ and when you click on them they have less followers than my account! I also get lots of them trying to subtly do it by messaging asking how much my products are, obviously hoping I say oh for you they are free (given I have a link to my website and prices on my page). One of the insta ‘famous’ people who messaged had 650K followers too. They must just send messages on repeat to everyone with a small business, holiday companies etc and take any freebies going. It all makes me cringe so much now I’ve seen it from the other side 🙈 So I’m definitely not defending this kind of behaviour but it is happening constantly just now

SingingFaLaLa · 03/08/2023 23:22

Christ she looks awful. Totally gaunt.

Post corrie life obviously not going well.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 03/08/2023 23:24

It was the same situation with the Dublin hotel - the freeloader was promising to promote the business to all of her followers, when the hotel already had far more followers of their own!

Katie Hopkins take on it had me howling. Even despite the dodgy accent

OMG I am not Katie Hopkins biggest fan but that was FOOOOKING Hilarious! 😆

Agree. Cath T is a cheeky fucker of the highest order. If she had just shut the F up, or said she was sorry to the company... (which she could have done out of sheer decency and good manners even if it wasn't her fault,) then it would have blown over.

She has made a right tit of herself, and despite her 7 years in Corrie, and other stuff she has done, she will now only ever be remembered for this. Her PR company need to tell her to do some damage control NOW, and say she is really sorry. Not sure if anyone will believe her now though. 😬

AlltheFs · 03/08/2023 23:25

She’s an absolutely talentless twunt of the first order. Popbitch suggests she was touting for cake for her 30th too.

Appalling behaviour!

Yup. A camp tit, no less.

GoingToBeLessRubbishAtLife · 03/08/2023 23:27

There were two bakeries emailed weren’t there? So anyone know what happened to the other one?

Grapewrath · 03/08/2023 23:28

The response video is awful- just shows her for the bitchy and immature individual she is. I have second hand embarrassment for her

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 03/08/2023 23:31

Apparently, the royal family are one of the worst of all for filling their boots with freebies. Obviously, they don't ask in person; to be fair, maybe their Smitherses don't actually have to explicitly ask - but it seems to be the accepted thing that the people who are in an infinitely better position to be able to pay for supplied goods, without even noticing the money gone, are given them free; whilst the ordinary Joes and Josephines have to save up and pay full price.

Actually, thinking about it now, I wonder if the 'royal supplier' scheme is effectively jut one great big grift that casts enormous shade on the likes of CT? Might it be the case that being allowed to print the royal endorsement and coat of arms on your product is potentially 'smoothed' by your insisting on supplying said goods completely free of charge?!

PriamFarrl · 03/08/2023 23:33

They still make Coronation Street?

gooseduckchicken · 03/08/2023 23:38

CT's video doesn't make any sense.

On one hand, she didn't know the email was sent but on the other, they have been misconstrued.

She says she's not working with OK magazine but, in the email, NVRland said the party was being featured in the magazine. Then CT says they are an amazing company - shouldn't she be cross with them if they are lying about her magazine deals?

Her dig at the bakery was stupid - that bakery didn't release her name.

Bunnycat101 · 03/08/2023 23:42

She came across as a massive dick really. I was trying to work out what was worse:

a) her agitated and rude video
b) the fact that she was throwing herself a ‘camp as tits’ birthday party on her husband’s actual birthday and he was getting a small cake while she was getting cupcakes for 100 and a three tier job.

No, the beckhams are the worst. David was asked to donate out of his own pocket money for a charity event he was running it was his idea, when the pr company asked him to donate something like 10k, he said no way, tale it out of the charity fund. It was all caught on emails that were leaked. But apparently they bag free flights, bags, clothes etc all the time.

I don’t think is true, hopefully one of the more experienced royal watchers will confirm but my understanding is the royals cannot accept freebies they are actually sent back and the royal warrant has nothing to do with royals being gifted stuff.

EachandEveryone · 03/08/2023 23:51

Its not just Z listers though, is it? Theres loads of them out there on the take. Maybe they dont ask directly and maybe companies approach them but I can think of one comedian who drops the names of companies left right and centre. The childrens outfits, play houses, swings, the dogs collar, the hairdresser etc etc. and these are people I like but its tiresome. New sofas from some hand made bespoke work shop, they may not get them free but they arent paying the prices we would have to. They're all at it. And I cant name names as they probably come on here 😃

BusyLemon · 03/08/2023 23:55

As much as it pains me to say anything in their defence, the RF do not get free goods in exchange for a royal warrant.

Funny how 'exposure' is supposed to be good for a small business, but when the press come to her house it's a problem!

TogetherInEclecticDreams · 04/08/2023 00:02

At least she's now as famous as she clearly thought she was before cakegate.

Omg yes! That’s the main take away that I took from all this. Unhinged behaviour. The poor soul.
