To think Catherine Tyldesley is a CF - cakegate

I can’t help but feel that when you’re in a position of privilege and a celeb of any description, you shouldn’t by asking small independent businesses for free shit...

But, if you do, at least own it. The video of her belittling “the cake lady” really shows what a tramp she actually is.

Cakegate: Ex-Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley hits back after 'bizarre' row with Three Little Birds Bakery over free cakes

Three Little Birds Bakery said it declined a request from an events agency to make a cake and 100 cupcakes for the birthday of a "well-known" celebrity - later revealed to be Tyldesley - in exchange for promotion on social media and in a magazine.

I’m glad that “The cake lady” is getting exposure. Good for her Grin

What happened to ‘be kind’.
So many awful comments on here.

Yes, she hasn't come across well, we all make mistakes, but here we are again, commenting negatively on how she looks, her choice of party, her dad, etc etc etc.

It is a cake, it is a mishandled freebee - it is not damaging to any of us - when such a lot in the world is.

She doesn't deserve SM bullying.

Oh give over.

CT wasn’t kind to a bakery whose reputation she tried to trash, was she? The PR wasn’t kind to expect a small business to incur large costs in return for some nebulous “exposure”, was it?

”Be kind” is so often used to mean “Don’t say anything that will upset someone” (especially when it’s a woman speaking up) and yet these grifters deserve to be pulled up on their behaviour and not excused with some limp nonsense like “everyone makes a mistake”.

“Be kind” can get in the bin.

jenbj · 04/08/2023 07:40

I am self employed in a business which people see as a 'nice to do', a bit like cake making. I regularly get asked to do stuff for free. People just assume I'll do it. I always say no - I can't afford to work for free. I'll do a couple of jobs for charity for free each year but only if I don't have paid work.

It's about time 'influencers' were exposed as the grifters they are.

Wintersgirl · 04/08/2023 07:40

Oh do bore off, I hate that stupid saying with a passion, it's used by people to shut down valid arguments when it's not going their way....and Catherine Tyldesley wasn't exactly "being kind" herself was she?

You can hardly say Catherine was being kind herself with her comment about hoping cake lady gets the exposure she craves s d blaming cake lady for journalists knocking at her door. Had she apologised and said she knew nothing about what the PR company were up to and offered to pay for the cakes this would have blown over quickly. She has not helped herself.

But yes, comments about her appearance etc. are not kind.

KPops22 · 04/08/2023 07:45

She is one of those people who is always making videos /whatever and somehow ends up in the side columns of the DM. It's part of all this "look at me - I am a real Mummy" shite that fills so much of SM. I saw the video and it shows the nasty side of someone who has been rumbled. I'm really surprised she made it.

BellaJuno · 04/08/2023 07:45

Absolutely no need for anyone to comment on CT’s looks in relation to this. Absolutely fine to call her out on her behaviour.

Anyotherdude · 04/08/2023 07:47

TBH, I suspect it was an entitled and very young intern at the PR company who thoughtlessly sent the eMail, but for CT to respond as she did was quite bizarre…
I wonder if Abigail was fired?

While I get what you are saying so many of her posts are about losing weight so it is inevitable that this would happen with a cake story. How many times have we heard the she used to be fat and look at her now stories?

Lobelia123 · 04/08/2023 07:50

Regardless of whether it was a 'an entitled and very young intern at the PR cpmpany', Catherine Tynesdale herself came across as so entitles, so arrogant and condescending in the video she posted with the ridiculous sunglasses, and so obviously pretentious and into herself, that its evident that the actions of the PR agency are not far off what she considers to be her due as a sleb. Complete PR fail on all counts.... except for the cake lady who comes out smelling like roses.

DH and I have our own business. Thankfully we've never (overtly) been asked to work for nothing but recently a client recommended us to someone else. They quoted to the other person, how much our work would be (without asking us first) and then told us they wanted a cut of £200 for the recommendation! When we costed it up and deducted their cut we would have lost money on it.

Didn’t know who CT was, sounds like she may have been known years ago. She has utterly embarrassed herself and shown how spiteful she is. Also, in the clip she couldn’t stop touching her nose. Was she known to do drugs before? Just looked like she had done some.

I thought that!

I'm afraid this sounds like standard practice with PR firms given the number of comments from other small businesses who have received similar requests from influencers. CTs social media also has a number of 'gifted' tags suggesting this is common practice for her.

However, I wonder where and who the lie about OK magazine being involved came from.

GenieGenealogy · 04/08/2023 07:53

I am a freelancer and have been doing writing/research and now genealogy for about 15 years. I would actually do Who Do You Think You Are for free - that's a huge show with 6 million viewers. It's about getting your name out there.

But I have also been approached to write blogs/articles for various websites and when you look into the website it's something you've never heard of, or in a very narrow niche or just really poorly put together. It's clear that they are an amateur outfit who haven't a clue.

The irony is that the celebs who COULD generate a huge amount of publicity for a baker, florist or similar will pay for their services. You never heard of Elton John trying to grift a freebie cake for his kids or Madonna or Tom Cruise after someone to paint their portrait free of charge. Even though the events hosted by the real A-list celebs are featured on the pages of glossy magazines across the globe.

This woman's protests that she didn't know do not wash. Of COURSE she knew. No party planner is going to go off and start organising a party without getting a full brief and budget from their client. She is rude, grabby and just a bit thick. Well done the baker.

"Whatever happened to bekind" , you ask?

Normal people who are generally kind never needed to use it.

And those who spout it to others are always those who are the problem themselves, so are generally avoided.

HTH

"Bank of Exposure Notes"😂😂😂

I love the pic of the pink flamingo cake!

I think I rad somewhere that the theme was "Camp as Tits"- I wouldn't want to be associated with that even if I was struggling & needed the exposure!

eish · 04/08/2023 07:55

I would very much like to see a change in culture of small businesses feeling pressured to offer free items. This type if story and exposure will help.

CT did herself no favours in her video, she could have handled it much better.

I don’t really follow the logic on this I’m afraid. CT’s physical appearance has nothing to do with how she’s responded to this situation. I’m not defending her, I’ve never actually watched anything she’s been in, but just pointing out how irrelevant it is to comment on her appearance in relation to this story.

6WeekCountdown · 04/08/2023 08:00

I didn't even know who she was 🤣, aren't soap actors not actually paid that much in the world of celeb anyway (mainly because they can't actually act)? All a bit sad a grown woman having to do this insta nonsense for free stuff. She's made herself look rather silly. Hopefully this gives the cake business lots of positive exposure and they are fully booked after all this.

SydneyJKL · 04/08/2023 08:01

Just so supportive on here this morning. ☹️

Chickenkeev · 04/08/2023 08:01

😂😂😂

Viviennemary · 04/08/2023 08:02

I think they are both in the wrong but CT more so. Why didn't the bakery just politely decline. No need to write such a venomous letter. But the so called celeb has shown herself in a very poor light and has come of worse in the end.IMHO.

People who court publicity like this cannot determine which aspect of their life is chosen to be commented on. The fact that it is cake and she is looking so gaunt in it - it was inevitable especially as she blogs so much about her weight. She spoke about her children in the clip too and the press coming to her house ..you could say the same thing about her. Why bring her children into a cake story? If you make your living by being a SM pedaler then that is the risk. You think it is irrelevant? I think it was to be purely expected. Different viewpoints.

Gymmum82 · 04/08/2023 08:06

I don’t think there is necessarily anything wrong with negotiating a discount for free advertising.
A fairly new take away opened up locally and after a month or so a youtuber rate my takeaway or something similar. I’m not familiar with the channel went and vlogged it on their channel, no idea if they got their meal for free. This ‘exposure’ has resulted in the place having 3+ hour queues now for weeks, they’ve had to very quickly expand and no signs of it dying down. So it can benefit the business.

However CT has come across really badly in this video. All she needed to do was apologise. Say it was a misunderstanding if she wanted to. Offer to pay for the services. But slating the business owner and coming across as spiteful and catty isn’t going to end well for her

Flapjacker48 · 04/08/2023 08:06

A vulgar liar.
