To think Catherine Tyldesley is a CF - cakegate

I can’t help but feel that when you’re in a position of privilege and a celeb of any description, you shouldn’t by asking small independent businesses for free shit...

But, if you do, at least own it. The video of her belittling “the cake lady” really shows what a tramp she actually is.

Cakegate: Ex-Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley hits back after 'bizarre' row with Three Little Birds Bakery over free cakes

Three Little Birds Bakery said it declined a request from an events agency to make a cake and 100 cupcakes for the birthday of a "well-known" celebrity - later revealed to be Tyldesley - in exchange for promotion on social media and in a magazine.

Have you seen the latest? Bloody hell. Someone needs a hug!

It's ridiculous. The bakery shared a cheeky email. They didn't name anyone.

🤣🤣🤣

I wonder if there is anyone else whose career has been ended over cake.

ilovebrie8 · 05/08/2023 13:24

Katie Hopkins brilliant! A friend of the bakery owner has posted on Katie’s insta that there was no misinterpretation that she Kath T was after a freebie! Simple as. Another bakery has also said they got the same begging email wanting a freebie! Shameful and what a way to treat small businesses …

ilovebrie8 · 05/08/2023 13:27

It’s more about her entitled am better than anyone else behaviour! I’d she apologised and offered to pay end of but no she turned nasty and posted that shocking video ! You reap what you sow and she’s made a total tit of herself with her grabby behaviour not the first time either she’s grabby by all accounts…

A daily mail article popped up for me earlier. It reported kem from love island had cava and cakes made for free in return for a social media post. He then never tagged the bakery and they went to the daily mail. Kem has responded that he didn't know there was ever a deal made and he thought the bakery had been paid. The events company then tried to barter a price with the bakery which went down badly and now they are waiting for an invoice. This seems to have been cleared up quicker and has not caused as much fuss

Waffle78 · 06/08/2023 00:50

I saw something before saying she's had £77k in freebies over the last 12 months.😱

Probably because he didn't gob off on a dramatic video and post it.

Marie Antoinette?

Although that may have been more of a brioche.

LaMarschallin · 06/08/2023 08:21

AutumnCrow

Marie Antoinette?
Grin

(The only other SM I engage with is a couple of cryptic crossword blogs. Recently there was a clue, to which the answer was "brioche", clued as: "The pain of Marcel Proust". The every-other letters of "ROH" made it obvious what the answer was intended to be, but there was quite the back-and-forth about calling "brioche" bread (although very mild by MN standards!); MA was invoked of course)

@Holscgnmusch you're entitled to your opinion but I entirely disagree. There's nothing great whatsoever about the bakery's post. Really distasteful and spiteful to start with. I wouldn't use them.

They didn't name her and had every right to expose the entitled culture. If she had approached them it would be different.
No one should be asking creative people for things for free. I understand that this happens a lot with musicians too.

I saw that too and was astounded that it's worth it for the companies involved to give so.much stuff away.

Do people really go out and buy a chair/new kitchen/ cake just because a former soap actor was given a free one?

I suppose they must do!

The mind boggles.

Companies who do this put me off buying their stuff more than anything. I'd much rather hear Mabel down the road got a lovely kitchen off a company with her life savings, than hear the opinion of some muppet who got it free for prancing around on social media. In most cases I have seen, it is always a positive glowing review, I prefer realistic.

That being said, I will be shocked if she gets much more free stuff. If she does then I hope it's a pair of new spectacles for her sake.

TrundleWheel76 · 06/08/2023 11:24

@ThickSkinnedSoWhat

I agree. I think I'd be put off buying something that someone like this endorses.

And 😂at the glasses comment!

blacknredsweeties · 06/08/2023 11:41

If they are given free stuff don't they have to give a positive review even if they haven't tried it / don't like it? Or do they have to be honest and if they think it's crap they won't post? I never pay attention to celebrity reviews as I assume the former?

Free stuff tends to oblige people to give good reviews, it’s human nature. And I think that’s even more true for celebrities.

WidowedMum · 06/08/2023 11:47

@ThickSkinnedSoWhat

Thank you! I’m the same, I’ve been looking for reviews before buying in the past and as soon as I’ve seen they sent a free one to a celebrity I won’t buy from them, I hate this culture!

It is still very hard to know who is being paid to tag their posts and who just wants to share a find. I saw that Helen Skelton had had a rebuke for doing that this week. I can’t believe that Carrie Johnson is trying to enter the influencer market but she is permanently in something tagged and never uses a gifted hashtag so I assume she is just sharing. I loved Nicki Chapman’s reply when asked if she had to return her coats; “I buy them.” - she is an absolute example of professionalism.

CherryMaDeara · 07/08/2023 15:41

I love Nicki Chapman but an absolute professional just for buying her own coats?

I buy my own coats too!

No, she is professional for knowing that just being a “celeb” does not entitle her to a life of freebies.

GenieGenealogy · 07/08/2023 18:05

I think the fuss with Helen Skelton was different. She obviously gets people tweeting or tagging her on Instagram asking where she got her purple shirt, or black trousers or whatever. So she was tagging shops/brands on photos of her getting ready to go on telly so she didn't get umpteen "Hi Helen, loved the dress you wore on Morning Live, where is it from" messages. This is something which is fairly commonly done by people appearing on commercial channels. But the BBC doesn't advertise, so Helen got a slap on the wrist.

There was no inference that the items being tagged were gifted to her, she most probably bought them herself.

Lilibert456 · 07/08/2023 18:14

Catherine who?

Ah, ok. Sorry, Helen!
