To think Catherine Tyldesley is a CF - cakegate

I can’t help but feel that when you’re in a position of privilege and a celeb of any description, you shouldn’t by asking small independent businesses for free shit...

But, if you do, at least own it. The video of her belittling “the cake lady” really shows what a tramp she actually is.

Cakegate: Ex-Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley hits back after 'bizarre' row with Three Little Birds Bakery over free cakes

Three Little Birds Bakery said it declined a request from an events agency to make a cake and 100 cupcakes for the birthday of a "well-known" celebrity - later revealed to be Tyldesley - in exchange for promotion on social media and in a magazine.

Christ, how crass. Not only for your PR to ask for freebies in return for “exposure” (I mean, who actually does that? It’s incredibly cheap) but then to double down and turn on the business that just didn’t want to be ripped off?

Urgh.

I saw the bakers post and applaud her .. in the events industry this seems commonplace and beggars belief to expect skilled people to work for free . Catherine s response was below the belt and unpleasant. I doubt very much that the baker needs any kind of publicity .
I work in events and have worked for high profile clients , but was contacted by a tv programme Real Housewives of Cheshire in 2016 to provide my services in return for “exposure” and responded to them with a similiar email … not surprisingly I didn’t get a response back !
You can die of exposure 🤣

That's amazing

RhymesWithTangerine · 03/08/2023 22:18

I was completely unaware of this woman until yesterday but I did know of the 3LB bakery.

It’s ludicrous to think they would work for her for free.

What a PR catastrophe she’s made of this.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 03/08/2023 22:19

I had no idea who she was and had to google her. Anyone who goes looking for #ad opportunities and freebies is probably not #winning at life. She's probably not that wealthy either. She's a CF but could be struggling to afford her lifestyle. Poor her!

TheCrystalPalace · 03/08/2023 22:19

Very unwise response. Came across as a spiteful dig.

Also, has she lost a huge amount of weight? Her face in that video looked very different from the other photo in the article.

HappyHappyy · 03/08/2023 22:20

Bravo @Rockschooldropout smart response - I really love seeing people standing up for themselves & their livelihoods, and calling the CFs out Smile

N27 · 03/08/2023 22:21

Her response it utterly insulting. Maybe “the cake lady” already runs a successful business and doesn’t need any help to grow? It’s hard enough to make a living from cakes as it is without giving away freebies!

at the very least they could have pretended they worded the email badly and that’s not at all what they meant…but for both CT and the company to blame the bakery for their brass neck is ridiculous. The email is there in black and white so how exactly can it get misconstrued?

purpleme12 · 03/08/2023 22:21

She does look really thin yes.

Wonder how this will play out for her

Nowifi · 03/08/2023 22:21

She'd have been better off just ignoring the story and letting it blow over, instead she responded and has made herself look worse. Honestly you could not pay me enough money to be a celebrity in this day and age, a list or z list.

FlyingPandas · 03/08/2023 22:25

Yep she's massively screwed up with that nasty response.

@Rockschooldropout your response is brilliant, well done to you and all talented small business owners for calling out this kind of entitled batshit diva behaviour.

Social media and the toxic cult of 'celebrity' has a lot to answer for!

PandaGrump · 03/08/2023 22:27

That’s the worst response ever. Total dick

MillWood85 · 03/08/2023 22:27

How many women do you know that's thrown themselves a party on their DH's birthday.......

I think that shocked me more than wanting a freebie. It's not a shared birthday but that's the day she wants HER party on. Wow. And then tries to arrange him a little cake as a consolation....

If I ran that bakery, I'd make him a cake. Not her.

Elderflower14 · 03/08/2023 22:29

This will do CT no favours at all... Her poor husband getting a significantly smaller birthday cake... Shows you who wears the trousers in their relationship...
A relation of mine was asked to appear on an episode of Who Do You Think You Are and speak to a celeb.. They declined as they weren't going to get paid!

100% this! Absolute dick.

backtogrey · 03/08/2023 22:30

Catherine Tyldesley? Who?

BecuaseIWantItThatWay · 03/08/2023 22:31

The worst of it was how she tried to make out that the baker was at fault and fame hungry!

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 03/08/2023 22:32

Am I the only one who is utterly baffled, intrigued and a little bit disturbed by the 'brief' for the theme of the party/cake as 'Camp as tits'? What on earth does that even mean? Did CT herself come up with that?

Why would you even go to all the trouble of trying to blag free cakes and then tell them the equivalent of "No, no, I'd like you to guess!" when specifying exactly whatever it is you're wanting?

The cynic in me does almost wonder if it was deliberately vague, so that they could tell her that she didn't really 'get it' and neg her, just in case she was foolish enough to agree but then later hinted that some actual payment might not go amiss.

I sat and fumed for an hour or so before replying !
This was seven years ago and yet still it’s happening , it’s downright insulting that these pr companies think they can avoid paying professionals by promising “exposure “ .. and thinking people will jump in anticipation. The teeny amount of exposure you’d get in return for hours of free work wouldn’t be worth getting out of bed for .
As for CT. She’s dropped right down in my estimations … rude, crass and arrogant

Dixiechickonhols · 03/08/2023 22:33

I saw the original post. They didn’t name the celeb. The response was totally crass. Surely damage limitation was to say something like planner had overstepped and it wasn’t done at her request. To dismissively call her a ‘cake lady’ is awful. It was a massive order wanting a fancy bespoke cake, 100? Cupcakes and what probably outed her a cheeky request for a cake for husband as it was his birthday too! Hours of work and probably at least £1000 value dismissed as cake.

AMuser · 03/08/2023 22:34

So poorly handled by CT and the PR firm. People need to stop insulting small businesses asking for freebies. It’s so grim.

aloris · 03/08/2023 22:34

I am so over the whole phenomenon of influencers. Also, internet "challenges." And being asked to fund someone's "charity" activity that really just means they go on vacation and fulminate about their opinions. Also, those yard signs that say, "You are loved." Loved by who? Or whom?

It's cheap grace.

rant over

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 03/08/2023 22:34

It's disgraceful enough angling for freebies from people who are a lot less wealthy than you are with the faint hint of 'good exposure' for their business instead of actual payment; but to then go on and deliberately try to give them BAD exposure when they decline is shocking. Not that it worked, mind!

HazelHair · 03/08/2023 22:39

Whoever is giving this actress PR advice needs sacking!

Spreadbed · 03/08/2023 22:42

The begging of some celebrities on social media is blindingly obvious once you notice it, and EVERYWHERE.

“Oh, my garden is looking so tired…” two weeks later they’re having their garden landscaped and it’s ‘gifted’

”Can anyone recommend a moving firm?’ They soon have a gifted moving service

”Ahh my nails look awful really need them done” - next day - gifted nail appointment!

It’s so exploitative and takes advantage of small businesses, who may be struggling or aren’t seasoned enough to realise that influencing doesn’t always mean big bucks.
