Just after everyone's opinions. I'm on an all inclusive holiday . Nothing flash . European destination. Hot sunny . 3*. Would you feel offended if a female sunbathes topless at the pool? Just for context I have done , but put bikini top on to go in pool and her drinks . It's literally just going topless when laying on sunbed . More context age range is babies up to 70+ . Lots of different shapes and weights of people . Lots of bellies make and female and lots of big boobs on men. Like I say this is just for context . Just interested in people's opinions. I'm with my husband on holiday .

Personally I wouldn’t , but my prime option days to do it would have been when we had children with us and I’m not convinced that running around after young ones makes it a sensible option and by the time they were older they would have curled up and died of embarrassment. I’m guessing perhaps that influences my decision too, as I wouldn’t want to make anyone else uncomfortable. Now also the chance of randomly appearing on someone else’s social media even in the background makes me even less inclined.

In all honesty the 5 star hotels we have stayed in over the past decade , I can only remember one woman who did , I’m guessing we don’t stay in locations that it is usual .

Hijinks75 · 03/08/2023 16:45

As long as it doesn’t break any local rules why not, if you’re happy to show off your body then good for you

nosepierce · 03/08/2023 16:46

i wouldn't because i still think my nipples are one of the last private areas i'm not expected to expose to fit in with what is expected . my opinion is that i dont really like seeing other women topless (whether you like it or not, women's breasts are sexualised even though they are "just tits") because it makes me feel a bit uncomfortable.

you can do what you want though, as long as it's allowed. i just think it's a bit unnecessary. get a micro bikini!

Whattwat · 03/08/2023 16:46

We went to Gran Canaria earlier this year. It was very common to see topless women at the beach- young and old, locals and tourists, in groups and even alone.

It didn’t bother me but I wouldn’t do it myself. However I now have really bad tan lines so maybe I should have!

ManateeFair · 03/08/2023 16:48

I personally prefer to keep my own boobs contained, but mostly because I avoid tanning in general. (I'll sit on a lounger and read a book on the beach/by a pool sometimes, but I'd invariably be in the shade/under a parasol and smothered in SPF50 so I'd probably wear shorts and a bikini top for that. Also I've got massive knockers and my boobs can get a bit achy and uncomfortable without support).

However, I wouldn't be offended in the slightest if someone else had their baps out. If you're in a country where topless sunbathing is generally acceptable, then I think it's absolutely fine - I don't think it makes a difference whether you're at the beach or around the hotel pool.

There are definitely a few European countries where it's either prohibited entirely (Malta, Albania) or only allowed on designated topless/nude beaches. There are also some countries where it's legal still unusual and likely to be frowned upon. But in a lot of countries it's considered very normal and assuming that's the case where you are, by all means get the girls out if you want to. I've no time for people clutching their pearls over this - they're tits, and in a non-sexual context. It's fine!

The only place I've had an issue is in Mexico where the American guests were HORRIFIED that the Europeans had their boobs out

Well... yeah, but topless sunbathing is actually illegal in Mexico, though, at least on public beaches. I do think it's important to respect the law and customs of the country you're visiting. (I wouldn't give a shit about upsetting the American tourists though!)

VeggieStraws · 03/08/2023 16:48

HowmuchcanispendatChristmas · 03/08/2023 16:45

Hopefully no one is sad enough to want a picture of my boobs . Horrible thought though people just taking pics

I completely agree, sorry I didn't condemn it more - it's terrible behaviour, but I think it's pretty likely. Maybe I have a really cynical view of human nature. I just think there will be some nasty pervy blokes who absolutely will. I hope I'm wrong, and sorry if that thought makes you feel uncomfortable or like you can't do what you want. It's not at all fair.

roarrfeckingroar · 03/08/2023 16:48

Crack on, no problem. I probably wouldn't do it anymore but only because I'm breastfeeding at present and my boobs can be rather unpredictable.

BravoMyDear · 03/08/2023 16:49

EhrlicheFrau · 03/08/2023 16:14

I've not come across it much in Scotland either tbh, it could be due to the fact that we often need waterproofs and thermals in the summer though. 😬

Imagine the midgie bites 😩

ZiriForEver · 03/08/2023 16:49

It is common here (central EU) in the nature, beach, river side and so on.
I wouldn't do it in the standard swimming pool, but it is probably legal here, at least I can't imagine anyone cared to specifically make it illegal.

Holiday destination pool - it is a place where sunbathing is one of the top 3 expected activities, so you should be free to do it. There is a difference between just sunbathing on your spot and "flashing".

hamsterballs · 03/08/2023 16:50

I would feel you was doing it to flash. Sorry.

Vicliz24 · 03/08/2023 16:50

I do on the beach but not usually by the pool . I just don't feel as comfortable.

Bobbybobbins · 03/08/2023 16:51

I was once on a very quiet beach in Florida and got told to put my top back on!

GrimDamnFanjo · 03/08/2023 16:52

I wouldn't but then again I don't sunbathe.

ManateeFair · 03/08/2023 16:52

NamelessNancy · 03/08/2023 16:41

I wonder if greater awareness of sun safety is a factor in it being less common for people to be so focused on tans as to want to do it. I've had melanoma though so my opinion might be skewed.

I do think sun safety awareness, along with the rise in camera phones, is probably a factor.

Obviously people still sunbathe but I think a lot of women just feel that the skin on their boobs/nips is quite delicate and sensitive compared to the rest of their body and are wary of getting burnt.

Eyesopenwideawake · 03/08/2023 16:52

Fine in Europe. Not in South Carolina. I speak from experience 😉

MissAtomicBomb1 · 03/08/2023 16:53

Just home from what sounds like a similar hol.
No one at all was topless around the pool the whole week we were there so I think you would very much have stood out.

A few topless each day on the beach though.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/08/2023 16:54

I genuinely wouldn't even notice, and I'm an old gimmer who some might expect to be horrified

Then again I also spend a lot of time in France, where they've learned that nudity and sexuality aren't the same thing - though admittedly the widespread naked sunbathing along the Landes beaches can be a bit of a surprise to a Brit when you visit with friends, look up from unpacking your bag and find yourself confronted with the last turkey in the shop

usernother · 03/08/2023 16:54

Wouldn't offend me but I think it's really tacky.

PoshPineapple · 03/08/2023 16:54

Not by a pool I wouldn't, but certainly wouldn't judge anyone who chose to.

I don't get the relevance of other holidaymakers' sizes/stomachs/gender etc. though?

Lots of different shapes and weights of people . Lots of bellies make and female and lots of big boobs on men.

HandShoe · 03/08/2023 16:55

Perfectly normal in Europe and wouldn't bother me at all. I gather its less common than when I was younger which I assume is to do with pervs filming on their cameras.

Motomum23 · 03/08/2023 16:56

JMSA · 03/08/2023 16:09

I wouldn't approve, but it's fine lying on your front!
Those who want to do it should go to a designated beach or hire your own villa.

Literally all pools in europe are designated topless

Olderandolder · 03/08/2023 16:57

Not at all offended.

But I’d have the same feeling that I get when I see someone running without a firm enough bra.

Both make me recoil like a man watching a kick in the balls.

Preservation of assets.

Jazzybean · 03/08/2023 16:58

I wouldn’t give a shit if someone else was doing it.

At the moment I feel like a sack of shit so would probably struggle to do it myself. Plus I fear burnt nipples!!

ZiriForEver · 03/08/2023 16:58

nosepierce · 03/08/2023 16:46

I see micro bikini as more sexualised and attention seeking than being topless.

Your preference to not do it is, of course, valid, but in some contexts, it is just your own expectation, rest of the world doesn't care.

GigiAnnna · 03/08/2023 16:59

Was a topless model back in the day so not shy about my body, but I wouldn't get my boobs out on the beach. They are now for husband's eyes only and it's awkward because I have kids who I do not walk around topless in front of at home, so wouldn't do it on holiday. Not bothered what other women do.
