To not boil another egg?

DC2 is 7 and going through both a growth spurt and a very fussy stage.

DC was offered poached or scrambled egg for breakfast. ( which I can reliably make) but I was persuaded to do boiled instead. Then I made it a bit runny… and had the audacity to serve with soldiers made of GRANARY bread! ‘It has bits in it’

DC refused to eat it and wanted something else. I asked DC to eat what I had made… they have left breakfast with nothing and are being extremely grumpy.

I have declined to make another egg… AIBU to think when they are properly hungry they will eat what is on offer…

photo attached of the offending plate…(DC insisted that I take the boiled egg out of the shell - but now doesn’t want it!

I’m mostly just intrigued by how you got a boiled egg out of a shell then made it look like a fried egg. Kitchen witchcraft!

I wouldn’t make another egg. (I’d eat that one myself!) But I’d let them get themselves toast or cereal if they wanted to.

Clymene · 03/08/2023 09:01

That's not a boiled egg

Sparklfairy · 03/08/2023 09:01

No advice but you've reminded me of the egg saga of my childhood. I did not like eggs much. I ate them anyway. My younger brother only liked the yolks of fried eggs, my younger sister only liked the whites. They would sit down and swap the bits they didn't like between them and I felt very left out SadGrin

poppym12 · 03/08/2023 09:03

How did you make a boiled egg look like that?

YourNameGoesHere · 03/08/2023 09:04

Errm that is not a boiled egg??

If the 7 year old is still hungry then I'd let them make themselves something else to eat to be honest. You're only making your day harder if you let them go hungry.

SiousieSoo · 03/08/2023 09:04

Sorry that is not my idea of a boiled egg, it looks like a flabby fried egg. I would always toast the bread asI don't think it is nice to have untoasted bread as soldiers, for an adult let alone a child.

iamboudicca · 03/08/2023 09:06

It was a boiled egg before DC insisted I take it out of the shell!

I was in your side until I saw the photo - that looks utterly revolting!

The soldiers aren’t toasted and god knows what happened to that poor egg.

I always take boiled eggs out of the shell and they stay the same shape, that's sort of the whole point of a boiled egg???

They look like this when peeled.

That’s not a boiled egg…

Cannotthinkofanametoday · 03/08/2023 09:09

That looks like a lovely healthy breakfast. I wouldn’t do another egg either.

CloudyMcCloud · 03/08/2023 09:10

Your boiled egg doesn’t look great tbh

Not sure how it ended up not looking boiled though

VioletOrange · 03/08/2023 09:10

There’s some kind of Paul Daniel’s magic going on here!

YourNameGoesHere · 03/08/2023 09:10

Oh maybe this is a better picture for reference given it was a dippy egg. Either way the picture in your post is not boiled...

They should eat what you’ve put on their plate. It looks a good breakfast.

Livedandlearned · 03/08/2023 09:12

That's been microwaved on the plate

iamboudicca · 03/08/2023 09:13

@YourNameGoesHere yes that is what a hard boiled egg is like out of the shell. DC wanted a soft boiled egg. (But not in a shell and not a poached egg…)
there is a reason I offered scrambled or poached!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 03/08/2023 09:13

I wouldn't eat that egg. The white looks like jelly and the yolk is liquid rather than soft.

Annaishere · 03/08/2023 09:14

Did you microwave it after it was boiled ?

YourNameGoesHere · 03/08/2023 09:14

ButterCrackers · 03/08/2023 09:10

They should eat what you’ve put on their plate. It looks a good breakfast.

Why should they? Just because they are a child? I wouldn't eat that egg and I doubt many adults would either.

iamboudicca · 03/08/2023 09:14

Yes I am not good at boiled eggs… hence offering other kinds.

BibbleandSqwauk · 03/08/2023 09:14

You know what, coming from the POV of a mum of two stupidly picky older kids who only eat rubbish I'd stand your ground a bit, with maybe a few tweaks like toasting the soldiers. Mine eat white bread, freezer food and nowhere near a variety of fruit and veg. Wish I'd been tougher when they were younger.

livethislifetoday · 03/08/2023 09:14

The 'toast' looks like it's been in the same room as a toaster but never in it.

YourNameGoesHere · 03/08/2023 09:15

Yes but as per my second picture the egg still looks totally wrong, not at all like a boiled egg whether that be a hard boiled one or a soft boiled one.

iamboudicca · 03/08/2023 09:15

Yes I did try to sort the disaster by putting it in the microwave
