To not boil another egg?

DC2 is 7 and going through both a growth spurt and a very fussy stage.

DC was offered poached or scrambled egg for breakfast. ( which I can reliably make) but I was persuaded to do boiled instead. Then I made it a bit runny… and had the audacity to serve with soldiers made of GRANARY bread! ‘It has bits in it’

DC refused to eat it and wanted something else. I asked DC to eat what I had made… they have left breakfast with nothing and are being extremely grumpy.

I have declined to make another egg… AIBU to think when they are properly hungry they will eat what is on offer…

photo attached of the offending plate…(DC insisted that I take the boiled egg out of the shell - but now doesn’t want it!

It’s like a bevy of Paul Hollywoods or that even more irritating male duo who judge that cookery competition kicking the crap out of an under par boiled egg and soldiers.

I make eggs completely in the microwave sometimes

And I’m sure as most of the comments on this thread have shown pretty much everyone would be able to tell they had be b microwaved and not done properly.

MrsSkylerWhite · 03/08/2023 09:39

Tbh if I was given that I wouldn’t want to eat it either. Egg looks overdone and the toast is just bread really.

homeforme · 03/08/2023 09:40

So you recognise you are not good at boiling eggs yet have still got into a battle with your child because you want them to eat it anyway?

I'm so relaxed about food so I realise my attitude is rare but I have never done food battles and always made something I think they would like (it sounds as if your DD wasn't expecting granary bread either) - it keeps everyone happy and I have no need to turn into some control 'eat it or go hungry' freak. My DC were always allowed to eat something they liked. Going hungry should not be an option in front of a child

CherryMaDeara · 03/08/2023 09:40

I wouldn't make another egg.

I have an egg maker from Asda (£10). I've gone from never having boiled eggs due to the fuss of timings to having them every other day.

iamboudicca · 03/08/2023 09:41

So egg was not awful. I ate it myself looked a bit shit. Tasted fine.

DC had already had fruit and shreddies - will not starve but was having extra cooked breakfast due to being extra hungry.

same DC ate the same bread last night for a snack. ( it’s also my favourite and I would like it to be back on the menu in this house)

I did time the egg. Clearly got it wrong ( thanks for all the tips - I now know that the likely issue was a large, fresh egg being fridge cold).

next time will stick to my guns and only do eggs I know I can do properly.

the end!

Please don't buy large eggs. They're so bad for chickens... I know that's not the point of the thread but poor chickens

Threenow · 03/08/2023 09:42

YourNameGoesHere · 03/08/2023 09:14

Why should they? Just because they are a child? I wouldn't eat that egg and I doubt many adults would either.

It's an egg, they all taste the same whatever they look like.

There is nothing wrong with that breakfast OP, ignore the smartasses on here who think they are oh so superior but in fact are just coming across as dickish.

homeforme · 03/08/2023 09:42

Also I have assumed a sex for your child. I don't even care if it's wrong. There is no need to 'DC and they' it through a thread about a boiled fucking egg. It's tedious.

evtheria · 03/08/2023 09:43

OP, I bought one of those automatic egg cookers that boil the eggs as you like them, similar to the one I've linked.
Has ended many arguments lively discussions in our house over how to boil an egg, whether someone wanted a soft or medium or hard one, whether the cook has done it right...

P.S. I admit I would not eat the one in your pic. I dislike eggs and will just about eat hard boiled, you've managed to poach one in its shell (admirable feat).

Agreed. And then they wonder why their kids are such fussy eaters.

Cosycover · 03/08/2023 09:43

Did you boil the egg in the shell? It doesn't look like you did?

If you DC wanted a boiled egg not in a shell isn't that just a fried egg?

You need to explain what you did to that egg please?

YourNameGoesHere · 03/08/2023 09:43

So to prove some kind of point to a 7 year old you ate the undercooked egg?

I also really don't get the reluctance to get a timer and both learn how to make a proper boiled egg?? If your fussy child likes boiled eggs why not teach her how to make one so she can move towards making her own breakfast.

Willmafrockfit · 03/08/2023 09:43

you have to have toasted white bread with a boiled egg, and an egg cup!

ZeroFuchsGiven · 03/08/2023 09:44

If you DC wanted a boiled egg not in a shell isn't that just a fried egg?

Well no it would be a poached egg.

Lachimolala · 03/08/2023 09:44

I wouldn’t make anything else. But I would tell them to pour themselves a bowl of cereal instead, I wouldn’t do it for them however.

She doesn't 'need' to do anything, surely? Confused

100%

Mrsjayy · 03/08/2023 09:46

iamboudicca · 03/08/2023 09:06

It was a boiled egg before DC insisted I take it out of the shell!

Why is it so flat did you squash It down ? I don't think it's cooked enough 😕 I'm not sure if I'd make anything else though maybe give cereal.

Hufflepods · 03/08/2023 09:47

CherryMaDeara · 03/08/2023 09:43

Agreed. And then they wonder why their kids are such fussy eaters.

Quite the opposite though. OP’s child is probably fussy because they get served up food like that.
I wouldn’t eat a very underdone egg and neither would I expect my DC to then.

DuploTrain · 03/08/2023 09:48

I wouldn’t eat that tbf. Soft boiled means the yolk is still runny… not the white.

Susuwatariandkodama · 03/08/2023 09:48

Soft boiled eggs still have a solid shape when the shell is removed. The white is solid and yolk is runny. Was it completely undercooked and had to be cooked more which is why is looks like a fried egg?
Personally I’d make another one but I’m a mum of kids with Sen and food is a huge deal, for me it’s not worth the battle!

afishcalledbreanda · 03/08/2023 09:48

YourNameGoesHere · 03/08/2023 09:08

I always take boiled eggs out of the shell and they stay the same shape, that's sort of the whole point of a boiled egg???

They look like this when peeled.

No, that's a hard-boiled egg. A soft-boiled egg (with a still-liquid yolk) will collapse on the plate because the centre is still runny.

CherryMaDeara · 03/08/2023 09:48

homeforme · 03/08/2023 09:42

What's tedious is you trying to derail a thread with irrelevancies.

Theunamedcat · 03/08/2023 09:49

Just get an instant pot you can cook allsorts in it including a boiled egg
