How often do you wash your bra??

This afternoon my sister and I were chatting and this came up- she washes her bra's after every wear. I am quite the opposite... my brand's go many many wears between washes and never seem obviously dirty or have any kind of scent.

AIBU and a skanky cow or is she being a clean freak? Just wondering what the general consensus is?

Also to clarify... we had this conversation getting changed at the gym- the only exception to my rule is sports bra's which do get sweaty and are washed after every wear.

Probably after 2/3 wears, now I feel like a dirty bugger after reading this thread😂😭

massivesalads · 30/07/2023 10:32

Also should add I'm only a b cup and not a sweaty person! So no underboob sweat 😂

Bras don't last longer if washed less. The sweat left to fester has a more deteriorating effect than gentle washing/rinsing and hanging to dry. Washing after use helps them to retain their original shape.

I’ve found any clothes start to wear more when washed. And I ain’t hand washing that’s for sure! If I accidentally buy hand wash only clothes, they never get washed!

my bras last for years, I still have some from 15+ years ago that are perfectly fine, don’t look old at all and are wearable. I find the type I currently buy (the sumptuously soft ones from M&S) tend to look worn quicker just because the material is soooo soft. They are still wearable they just get bobbly and lose their shape quicker as they’re just softer to start with.

Could have been worse, I read 'after 2/3 years', at first.

Knickers get washed after 1 wear, everything else, it depends. Bras, tops and jeans or trousers, 3-4 wears normally. Dresses less, skirts even less.

That way, i use less water and power and the clothes last longer

Not as often as I should 😂😂 I don’t understand why because I wash everything else I wear after one wear, but my bra I wear for a good few days.

@Lollipop81 you never wear anything else more than once?

StarlightLady · 30/07/2023 12:19

For those asking about the price of bras and how we can afford to have enough to wash after every wear, I have around 14 bras (size 36F) and none have been full price. I always wait for the sales. They are usually discontinued colours (I don't do beige or white) and nobody is going to see you getting undressed and say that colour bra is so last year 😂.

I'm the opposite, I'm a 30f, so small back, large cup. My boobs are tiny though. I can't find anything in m&s most of the time.

I feel your pain. I wish I was one of those that could waltz into any shop and get a comfy bra that fits me. Sadly it just wasn’t meant to be lol.

I guess we all have that one outlet that makes them just right for us!

Sennelier1 · 30/07/2023 12:51

Bra's are not like knickers I think. I usually wear my bra's two days in a row unless I haven been sweating a lot (as I often do). But in cool weather, two days seems fine. Knickers is clean ones every day, sometimes even a new pair later in the day when I have been sweating a lot.

Just remembered I meant to ask: so does this mean when some people go on holiday they pack 7 bras? Or 14 if they go for a fortnight?!

No-I go on holiday somewhere with a washing machine. If I was just going to a hotel for a few nights where I couldn’t do any washing, then I would pack one per day I was away.

Yes, I do.

StarlightLady · 30/07/2023 14:07

@orangeyeahthatsright - If I'm away for 2 weeks, possibly 1 week, I wash things when away. Both on holidays and when travelling for work.

Lemonyyy · 30/07/2023 15:16

Wow apparently I am a skank lol. Tbh I air sports bras and wear them twice because I am trying to wash less in general so washing a day to day bra every 4-5 wears doesn’t seem that bad to me. I also have small boobs so under boob sweat isn’t really much of an issue!

Lollipop81 · 30/07/2023 15:53

i sometimes wear jeans twice at the most. everything else one wear, same goes for all my children’s clothes, mind you they are still very little and tend to get in a state 😂

No, i pack 3 or 4 and some hand-washing liquid. Same for swimwear.

Ahh, me too! Not as big a difference as you though. 32DD/32E - not massive at all, but apparently you can't have above a C cup if you're a 32 band according to the mainstream retailers 🙄 wish I could get the cheap bras

CKMc2b · 31/07/2023 00:23

After every wear in summer. In winter after 1-2 wears depending if they're sweaty or not.

StarlightLady · 31/07/2023 08:07

@Koalasparkles - I think the John Lewis sale may meet your needs without breaking the bank.

Dinomum79 · 01/08/2023 22:56

Oh I must be manky! Every week unless it smells . I think it ruins them to wash them too often . I also don’t wear the same bra every day , depends on the colour of my outfit. I wash a sports bra every wear though x

M103 · 01/08/2023 23:03

After 4-5 days at the best of times. Often even less frequently.

RG89 · 02/08/2023 19:06

After a few days. They're way too expensive to have enough to wash every day! I'm the same with jeans and jumpers too, only wash if noticeably dirty or I've worn them a few days.

LanaL · 15/10/2023 19:27

I’m awful! Mine are a good few wears lol
