How often do you wash your bra??

This afternoon my sister and I were chatting and this came up- she washes her bra's after every wear. I am quite the opposite... my brand's go many many wears between washes and never seem obviously dirty or have any kind of scent.

AIBU and a skanky cow or is she being a clean freak? Just wondering what the general consensus is?

Also to clarify... we had this conversation getting changed at the gym- the only exception to my rule is sports bra's which do get sweaty and are washed after every wear.

Think Arabellascott has it right , do what’s good for you

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/07/2023 21:11

Every day fresh bra ,

washed in padded laundry bags on a handwash setting - I have 10 so enough for a full load

WalnutBlue · 29/07/2023 21:33

3-5 wears, they don't tend to get sweaty.

GC1 · 29/07/2023 21:41

Twice a week I change mine. At £50 a go I certainly don't have as many bras as knickers to change daily lol and washing them daily ruins your bras btw!

Silentmama2 · 29/07/2023 22:05

When they smell

Off topic - but can anyone recommend me a laundry bag - every time I look I get overwhelmed and then distracted - resulting in no bag!

Not exactly - I am a DD cup so not small but I don’t have any overhang (40 and still pert, probably because I’m childless, one infertility perk at least…).

I am quite a low-temp mortal compared to average body temps though and I’m not a very sweaty or odorous person, who also does an office job.

DD cup without any overhang? Methinks you are telling porkies

I’m a 36 DD and have no over hang either, mine are very pert

Bonfire23 · 29/07/2023 23:24

@Pebblesontheside a DD isn't necessarily big
See pics of a 32DD and a 34DD

Nope, it’s true - we’re all built differently. I’m quite broad shouldered, which I think spreads the load 😂

One wear only - next to skin!

So? Is your skin really that gross?

I don’t wash my jeans/skirts/leggings or tops after every wear, and tops I only judge by the smell of the armpits, not by the fact it’s touched my skin 😐the rest of the garment doesn’t smell and isn’t dirty, but if I’ve sweated in it from the armpit, or it’s smelling of deodorant or a bit of sweat under the arms then I wash it (could be anything from one wear to three or four. Possibly more for jeans/leggings)

my bra sits far lower than my pits and they never smell. Ever. Even when I throw them in the wash, they still don’t smell, I just figure eventually they should get washed! I also have small boobs so no real boob sweat (and it certainly doesn’t smell)

MeridaBrave · 30/07/2023 00:41

In summer / hot weather or when sweaty (eg very active day) daily but can wear 2-3 days in autumn/ spring / winter and not sweaty.

Threenow · 30/07/2023 01:25

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/07/2023 17:28

Clean bra daily same as knickers

Why wouldn't you

It's underwear

Can you really not see the difference between a bra and knickers??Confused

StarlightLady · 29/07/2023 19:25

@BadNomad - Exactly. This was my point up thread. Changing a bra each day and adding it to the regular wash load has no environmental impact and uses no more resources. My boobs deserve a freshly laundered environment to live in.

Very true.

Mine are hand washed and rinsed while i shower.

It's just minging to claim environmental impact as a reason to wear dirty undergarments.

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/07/2023 07:28

I am amazed those who don't change daily

I have 7/8 so they get put in either dark or light wash weekly - it's not if washing machine is on daily for one bra

I'm wondering those who wear for a few days also change their bed less frequently - as know they thread comes up often 😂😂

Bra knickers socks daily
Bed weekly

SouthernLassies · 30/07/2023 07:47

A bra doesn't need changing daily unless you're doing sport or living in a very hot climate.

I suppose the daily bra -changes are also the same people who wear a top (T shirt, blouse, jumper) once as well?

No wonder we have an energy and water crisis, and piles of clothes in landfills - because the more you wash a bra the quicker it wears out.

Just how sweaty are you if you need to wash a bra after 1 wear?

I have a shower in the morning and a bath each evening.

I don't sweat so much that my bra gets wet or sweaty.

I wear a bra for around 3 days but if I've done sport or the weather is hot and the bra is sweaty then yes, I'd wash it.

SouthernLassies · 30/07/2023 07:51

So many posters seem to be disgusted by their own skin!
Why?

I wonder if these are the same posters who never shower in the morning (and don't realise we lose a litre of sweat overnight) or shower/ bath at the end of the day?

I'm usually frankly disgusted by the 'how often do you shower' threads where half the population seems to go out to work without a shower, or go to bed without one.

If your body smells, your clothes will.

Duckduckie · 29/07/2023 20:44

I can’t afford to have a bra for every day, I would be bankrupt! How are people affording this 😂

Same! My bras are £35-40 a pop, due to size.
I air mine after each wear but only wash every 4-5 wears.

BadNomad · 30/07/2023 08:05

@SouthernLassies you talk about a water crisis then say you have a shower AND a bath every day. That's a bit hypocritical.
And if you bothered to read the thread you will see most people either handwash their bras or put them in the wash when they're putting a load on anyway. No one is washing just a bra in the machine.

Hope this helps with your panic about the energy and water crisis.

They are probably flat chested like me who can wear any old thing as long as it's comfortable and just put it in the normal wash, I generally buy in the M&S sale

ThePoshUns · 30/07/2023 08:39

I'd love to be a normal size.

Lollipop81 · 30/07/2023 09:39

Not as often as I should 😂😂 I don’t understand why because I wash everything else I wear after one wear, but my bra I wear for a good few days.

Another vote for M&S sale! But that’s the only place that make a bra to fit me (my cup size is relatively small for my back size as I’m broad!)

I do have a good number of bras but very few are actually comfortable. I have to buy their “super soft” range as normal bras just rub me.
Last thing I wanna do is wear them out even faster by washing them every 5 minutes 😂

I got about 6 new bras in the sale last year, I think they were £10-£15 each. I still think that’s expensive for an undergarment that I only need because I’m female lol

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 30/07/2023 10:10

Bras don't last longer if washed less. The sweat left to fester has a more deteriorating effect than gentle washing/rinsing and hanging to dry. Washing after use helps them to retain their original shape.

I'm the opposite, I'm a 30f, so small back, large cup. My boobs are tiny though. I can't find anything in m&s most of the time.

Some people are very sweaty and need to change more frequently. It's just genetic, it doesn't make them a bad person!

I'm not a sweaty person, but it's nothing I've done, it's just luck of genetics.
