How often do you wash your bra??

This afternoon my sister and I were chatting and this came up- she washes her bra's after every wear. I am quite the opposite... my brand's go many many wears between washes and never seem obviously dirty or have any kind of scent.

AIBU and a skanky cow or is she being a clean freak? Just wondering what the general consensus is?

Also to clarify... we had this conversation getting changed at the gym- the only exception to my rule is sports bra's which do get sweaty and are washed after every wear.

Every 3 days usually unless it's very hot. Have 3 pairs of matching pants per bra. Don't wear them for exercise.

SchoolShenanigans · 28/07/2023 14:33

Usually once a week or so.

Oh god. I have one good bra and just wear it non stop. For weeks. Ok I think I need to remedy this.

Nah, I'm with you on this. I basically wear mine until they smell and/or feel out of shape. Same with jeans.

I suspect everyone on here saying 'two or three wears' really means a week and everyone saying '4-5 wears' means a fortnight, but they just dont' want to admit it.

GalileoHumpkins · 28/07/2023 15:56

I have tiny boobs and always wear bralettes, I wash them after every wear.

midgetastic · 28/07/2023 15:59

Most of the bra manufacturers seem to say after 2 or 3 wears

I mean it's next to your skin but my skins quite clean

Hihihihihihihihihi · 28/07/2023 15:59

Every day - I'm shocked at some responses saying they wear them for a week before washing

CrotchetyQuaver · 28/07/2023 16:04

During Perimenopause it was a clean one every day because I sweated and they smelt at the end of the day. Now back to clean every other day as I always have. Clean knickers every day.

honeylulu · 28/07/2023 16:04

"Shocked"?

What do you think will happen if you wear your bra a few days running, honestly? I can tell you - absolutely nothing. I said the same thing on a thread where posters were wailing about how "disgusting" it is to wash knickers in the same load as other stuff.

Maybe this is why there is no true equality. Men get on with running the world whilst women keep themselves busy fretting about washing their bras and knickers.

Anotherparkingthread · 28/07/2023 16:34

Every day.

I usually wear the fabric kind without any wires that are more like a crop top, and come down the ribs a little way. I wear underwire if I'm going out/wearing a dress or low-cut top.

I can't imagine more than one day wear. I own more than one bra so it's no bug deal I just throw them all in when I put the washer on?

mistermagpie · 28/07/2023 16:34

Probably a week? But I don't wear the same one every day so it just goes back in the drawer!

I don't see what's so manky about it to be honest - you have a shower then put the bra on, I'm not a sweaty person (and live in Scotland so it's rarely hot), what's the big deal?

Obvs wash knickers every day but that's a totally different thing.

mistermagpie · 28/07/2023 16:36

Actually does boob size make a difference? Mine are really small so they don't get sweaty underneath because there isn't a fold there, if you know what I mean

Maddy70 · 28/07/2023 16:52

When I lived in a cooler country inwoudl wash my bra every other wear. Now it's definitely every day because it's sweaty

Mamai90 · 28/07/2023 17:02

I don't sweat so usually every other day, maybe 3 at a push.

Oh well said. Amazing isn't it, we have threads on MN with people wringing their hands over global warming, and threads where people HAVE to wash their bras after every use and are wringing their hands at the thought of not doing so. The side part of my bra is nowhere near my underarms, it is just sitting on top of clean skin. I have been washing them weekly all my life and somehow I have managed to get to the age of 64 without anything dire happening to me - and yes, I wash my knickers in the same load as other clothing.

As you said, men do not spend their lives discussing this sort of nonsense. Some of the women on MN who feel they are so superior in their cleaning and hygiene practices and like to boast about it make me wonder if we are still living in the 1950s.

Every 3/4 days... I thought everyone else did this too? 🫣🫣 for me bras just aren't the same as knickers in that respect...

Me too 🙈 was afraid to admit it when I could see all the replies saying after every wear!

user123212 · 29/07/2023 12:28

Don't wear one anymore so no worries! (Work from home and scarves usually do the trick)

Catsanfan · 29/07/2023 12:50

I'm of the grimy brigade. Can someone link to the bralets people mention, they sound good

Gmary20 · 29/07/2023 13:17

I wash my bras when they start to smell 😂

Minimooncat · 29/07/2023 13:43

About every 4-5 days, I only own 2

Leftbutcameback · 29/07/2023 13:46

They usually last a couple of wears, unless it’s hot and sweaty, or I’m gardening (they seem to collect seeds, twigs and dirt!).

Shinyandnew1 · 29/07/2023 13:49

Every day, the same as socks and knickers. I also wash tops that have been next to my skin-eg vest tops-daily.

Jeans/skirts/jumpers I wash much less frequently

StarlightLady · 29/07/2023 14:02

It's tight against my skin, so after every wear, same as knickers, socks tights, stockings. I always wear underwired bras and they go in a delicates bag in the washing machine at 30 degrees.

WaltzingWaters · 29/07/2023 14:14

Mine I wear for ages (5 days or so) unless it’s particularly hot and sweaty. When I lived in hot climates though every one or two day. But I also only wear them when I’m actually out and they’re off as soon as I get home and in my comfy clothes, so they don’t get worn for that long each wear!

Mummyof4Ireland · 29/07/2023 14:28

Every few days maybe a week depending. Have been known to rewear a pair of socks also shock horror. Knickers clean every day obviously. My sister is also a clean one every day kind of girl
