How often do you wash your bra??

This afternoon my sister and I were chatting and this came up- she washes her bra's after every wear. I am quite the opposite... my brand's go many many wears between washes and never seem obviously dirty or have any kind of scent.

AIBU and a skanky cow or is she being a clean freak? Just wondering what the general consensus is?

Also to clarify... we had this conversation getting changed at the gym- the only exception to my rule is sports bra's which do get sweaty and are washed after every wear.

I've got 3 good bras I wear through the week and they all probably get washed once during the week, more in very hot weather.

Peony654 · 27/07/2023 19:15

I’m with you, probably after 4-5 wears / if it smells! Helps your clothes last longer if you wash less.

Laiste · 27/07/2023 19:16

After a couple of wears, unless it's v hot and then every wear.

Always safely in my trusty lingerie wash bag - which i've discovered lengthens the life of my £££ boulder holder bras :)

bagforlifeamnesty · 27/07/2023 19:16

Unless I’m sweating buckets or wearing a sport bra for exercise then I’ll wear a bra twice before I wash it. It’s not the same as knickers at all.

Laiste · 27/07/2023 19:17

What is so compelling about this type of thread? They get me answering every time! 😂

MrTiddlesTheCat · 27/07/2023 19:17

After a couple of wears. My bras cost around £80 each and I can't afford enough to be able to wash them every day.

honeylulu · 27/07/2023 19:20

After several wears. Mine are underwired and frequent trips through the washing machine trashes them so I wait until I think they need it. They're also all black so they don't look obviously grubby teehee. I have a shower every morning and a bath every night so they only get put onto my nice clean body.

I often get complimented on the perfume I wear. I'm sure if it was over powered by a whiff of sweaty tits no one would say nice things about how I smell.

Mayhem3 · 27/07/2023 19:20

At least every other day.
I have multiple bras so I’ll only go 2 days max in the same one and then wash a few of them at the end of the week.

My feet, arm pits or vagina doesn’t smell and I rarely get discharge (probably because I drink so much and wee a lot) and I could easily go a couple of days of wearing the same knickers and socks without them smelling (I don’t) but my boobs sweat like mad and my bra would stink if I didn’t change it regularly.

Oh god. I have one good bra and just wear it non stop. For weeks. Ok I think I need to remedy this.

Clymene · 27/07/2023 19:25

If I washed my bra every day, I'd need to own about £800 worth of bras.

I don't.

Thighdentitycrisis · 27/07/2023 19:27

2 ish days but I rotate them. I usually have a black, nude and coloured one on the go for a week and wash them all at the weekend

TheYearOfSmallThings · 27/07/2023 19:28

Normally every 2 to 3 wears. If I'm actually sweating then after one wear.

HennyPenny123 · 27/07/2023 19:28

I must be a grotbag too then! 😝

Mine only get washed if I'm doing a handwash cycle in the machine - maybe once a week, but could be longer... black ones get more wash action that the white one cos I tend to do dark colour washes more often

Same with jeans

I am actually surprised this is not the norm, I just thought it was, but never really thought about it much before this really

VeridicalVagabond · 27/07/2023 19:29

Every 3-4 wears in the winter, every 1-2 in the summer. Of course this is Mumsnet so anyone who doesn't handwash their bras in handpicked lavender water every single day at dawn is a filthy degenerate.

CindersAgain · 27/07/2023 19:30

Not for ages 😳

McaRoonie · 27/07/2023 19:32

Years ago- would’ve worn a bra for a week- no smell etc- didn’t sweat, no stains or dirt that I could see.
these days- everyday- couldn’t get away without it.
think it’s totally up to how much you do or don’t sweat in that area!

HateLongCovid · 27/07/2023 19:33

Don't forget those of us not washing them every day are being more environmentally friendly! If it's not dirty or smelly don't wash it!

decaffonlypls · 27/07/2023 19:33

Knickers, socks - every wear
Leggings, t shirts , dresses - every 2 wears
Jumpers every 3 or 4 wears
Bras, jeans, pjs, trousers - every couple weeks 😬

CharlotteSometimes1 · 27/07/2023 19:34

Every 2/3 days - I don’t get sweaty, sports bra after one wear

NoHallSouth · 27/07/2023 19:37

I've only got 2 bras at a time as the ones that support me properly are quite expensive (for me anyway!) They get washed every few weeks. Which is slightly more often than it used to be as I saw a thread a while ago that suggested I was grotty for not washing them more often.

I'm actually quite clean and meticulous in all other ways but this passes me by. They smell ok though.

OsirisservesAnubis · 27/07/2023 19:40

4 or 5 wears.

I rarely wear the same bra on successive days so they air out. I generally don't sweat either, so if I do, then I wash it.

If I was someone who perspired more then I'd wash every wear.

GallusQuine · 27/07/2023 19:40

I change mine every 4 days and always have done. I do a designated bra/knicker wash every 2 weeks as I don't like mixing my personal linen with other clothing as they are more delicate. The other thing is that I wear white/skin tone bras in the summer months and black during the winter months.

Thank goodness there are others who say this.

I am sure most do this but no one actually wants to say it.

Like the competitive bedding and towel washing every use threads!

YarisKaris · 27/07/2023 19:48

Every 4/5 wears. My bras are expensive so I usually only have two, maybe 3.
