Things on MNs that are confusing?

Just curious if anyone else wonders about these things:

  1. DP/DH with super outing hobby - what are these hobbies, naked trampoline tennis?

  2. DP/DH with super stressful job - what is it? Is it a known stressful job or is DP/DP just describing it as that? Anyone ever consider DH is incompetent or has been over promoted?

  3. The notion of a "posh wank" - it doesn't exist, it's a lie told by men caught cheating. Do people really believe it's a real thing?

OP posts:
sewerrat · 24/07/2023 07:14

outing hobby gets me every time 😂

PrivateSchoolTeacherParent · 24/07/2023 07:15

I find it odd when posters confidently give factually incorrect information!

Kta7 · 24/07/2023 07:18

On the ASD/disabilities thing: online forums are likely to attract a higher proportion of people who struggle with face-to-face interaction for various reasons (whether due to a social communication disability or because physically getting out and about is harder). I also think ASD is much more prevalent than is currently understood - I don’t tend to attribute everything to possible ASD but increasing awareness can only be a good thing for people who would previously have wondered why life is so much harder for them to navigate than other people.

Hi. I'm a man. If you are doing this you are weird and deranged. Stop. It's pointless and ridiculous and you look like a dope. Happy to help. Thanks.

It sounds such a crazy, senseless thing to do that you'd assume it must never happen; but then I think back to the old thread where somebody's postman stopped by regularly every morning to lie under a glass table and watch the female householder poo into a Pyrex bowl that was on the table. Talk about a 'special delivery' <boak>

After that, there's clearly absolutely no accounting for what kind of things that somebody, somewhere WILL actually get up to.

ItsABrandNewDay · 24/07/2023 07:20

"I've name changed for this..."

It's not so much the changing names so other posts aren't linked, I get that, it's why you've felt the need to tell everyone? Does it make a difference if people think you're a MN newbie or long time poster?

Swrigh1234 · 24/07/2023 07:20

Then there is the weird posters peppered across controversial and non-controversial threads telling the OP she is strange for caring about a topic to start a thread, asking why she is so invested, wondering why she is wasting her time talking about it.

Completely missing the irony that they saw the thread, consciously opened it, read the OP and then commented on it.

StonwEd · 24/07/2023 07:22

Why does everyone “throw” open their windows 😅😅😅

The family drama man, I could not be arsed with what some people go through, stand up for yourselves and tell sil or whoever to do one.

I thought the same about the massive teenagers, thought ds17 was odd but he’s lost all his puppy fat and shot up now and is exactly that! Eats me out of house and home too…

Efacsen · 24/07/2023 07:24

Also the 'outing' country of residence as in 'we've moved to a different country' and 'all our family live abroad'

So moving from Wales to Ireland
or from Russia to Scotland
or England to Australia

Helpful context completely missing

To be fair with this one, although it's annoying, if people don't point it out, you get the predictable slew of "Interesting first post, OP..." or "Welcome to MN, @ husbandatethehamster " in a clearly passive-aggressive, disbelieving way, rather than as a genuine friendly greeting. In fact, even if it is a genuine friendly greeting, it still would seem awkward to be welcomed as a newbie when you've been on here for 15 years.

Sporty339 · 24/07/2023 07:29

How anyone can just take in some ironing if they need a bit of extra cash 😂

They really are too dim to realise that, when they deliberately open a thread clearly entitled 'RIP Louise Postlethwaite' (random celebrity name) and regale us with their jewel of a comment that "Never heard of her", it isn't OP who looks like the stupid one.

If they really cared, it would have been quicker to just Google the name; and if they don't... well, there are hundreds of other MN threads (as well as the whole rest of the internet and life in general) to find something that they do care about...

Fizbosshoes · 24/07/2023 07:35

Everyone is making lots of changes towards climate change but anything less than 4 showers a day is grim and bedding and towels are washed daily if not more.

Every other person and their DH earn well into 6 figures but no one uses the money to buy more property because all landlords are evil bastards and no one should own more than one property.

loislovesstewie · 24/07/2023 07:40

Not read the whole thread but......

Ha at ‘throwing open’ windows. For me it’s ‘chucking’ on a top or just ‘chuck’ something into the slow cooker. I hate it!

NaturalNineties · 24/07/2023 07:45

I feel sorry for posters who struggle with comprehension.

‘I don’t understand why people find school holidays hard’.
‘I don’t understand why people have snacks’.
etc.

Must be tough living in a world of confusion 😔

YabbaDabbaDooooo · 24/07/2023 00:00

So many women on MN have ex partners who don't pay child maintenance.

Yet no-one on MN admits to having a current partner who doesn't.

This may be the same phenomenon as the one whereby no parent ever had a favourite child and if they did, they had it so well, the kids never ever even began to guess, or they each thought they were the favourite. No favouritism at all, say all parents.

And yet ask the adult children...

C1N1C · 24/07/2023 07:48

@JMSA

This could just be a statistical selection bias. People don't come onto help forums if there's nothing to ask/moan about (those are usually the reasons for similar forums!)... and on a mum forum, difficult kids are likely to be a big one. Not every woman out there has an ASD child, but many of those mums will come here.

Yes, so many simple things that are beyond the wit of many posters. Hot chocolate, Christmas boxes, Christmas pyjamas, snacks.

What exactly are they struggling with?

Do you think they're safe to drive? I'm not sure that a person who is utterly flummoxed by a cup of tea at work can handle traffic lights.

gelatogina · 24/07/2023 07:50

Taking in ironing or taking in a lodger advice

Name changed but regular PENISBEAKERSISTINECHAPELETCETC

How do people afford….(prime example the poster who had 3 kids and worked 12 hours a week and couldn’t for the life of her figure out why she couldn’t keep up with the joneses holidays)

not read the whole thread

C1N1C · 24/07/2023 07:52

For me, it's the double standards and the shout-down if you point it out.

A woman doesn't want sex:
-He's a sex pest
-She's not a cum-dump
-She had a child x years ago FFS!
-She's not just there for his 'needs'

A man doesn't want sex:
-He MUST be cheating
-Closet gay, lied at marriage
-"Death grip"
-Divorce him. A sexless life is unfair

HRTQueen · 24/07/2023 07:54

The never ending list of what is considered rude behaviour

one being a friend is passing during the day or early evening and thought they would just knock and say hello. I do not understand how this is considered rude. Hide, pretend you are our, don’t invite them in but this isn’t rude behaviour at all it’s normal social interaction

usedtobeasizeten · 24/07/2023 07:54

Everyone has a stressful job in a niche industry.

No-one has anyone in RL they can speak to, or any family support.

Someone makes a comment that makes OP ‘feel like shit’ so they have to come on MN to tell everyone so they can be told the other person was obviously ‘being a dick’ or ‘ they are vile’

Woman good, man bad. That’s all you need to know.

You must go NC with anyone who as much as looks at you ‘funny’ hence no friends, no family support…..

mangochops · 24/07/2023 07:56

I dont get the outing thing either, its usually the least identifying thread in the world.

eg. "I've name changed for this because its so outing. How much money should I spend on my best friend's birthday present?"

You'd have to be fcking colombo to identify someone from that

Yeah, I find these weird too.

And no one, absolutely no one read the mail.

Despite every other thread being quoted directly from the mail. With a pathetic faux apology calling it ‘daily fail’. You clearly read it, why the pretend hate.

MN & the Mail are in a symbiotic relationship and need each other.
