Is there something wrong with how I look?

GEC44 · 17/07/2023 16:50

Straight to the point - I've discovered a group of colleagues are talking about me behind my back and sending each other cartoon drawings of me, saying that I look like a man, look like a drag queen, and that my nickname is Funny Face.

I've been told by a beautician that I have strong features, and an 'image consultant' that I am 'striking'. Whatever that means.

Any thoughts?

It matters to the precise extent of your upset about a bunch of dipsticks calling you a drag queen.

If you don't care - and there's no reason why you should - then don't care. Embrace it, even.

But your whole thread is about you being distressed by others' perceptions of your appearance. At least some of that perception relates to your style of makeup. If you wanted to alter it, you could change your style.

I never wear any makeup

Are you the OP?

Coyoacan · 18/07/2023 05:16

I got that sort of stuff in secondary school. But now when I look st old school photos I was one of the prettiest girls In my class. Just sheer bullying

FOJN · 18/07/2023 05:47

Your colleagues are vile, childish bullies. Drawing pictures FFS.

I always thought 'striking' was complimentary but how you actually look is irrelevant; their behaviour is unacceptable.

GoadySockFucker · 18/07/2023 05:13

Are you the OP?

No 😂 sorry I was half asleep when I wrote that, it was 4am 🤦‍♀️ I did mean to elaborate but I can’t even remember what I was meant to write so just ignore me

user1492757084 · 18/07/2023 06:04

They seem like mean girls with generic looks.
They seem insecure and perhaps should be reported for childish bullying.

I love the musical Funny Girl starring Barbra Streisand (who has a strong, gorgeous face and voice of her own).
Keep walking strong in the knowledge that your face reflects respect, beauty and fairness.

LittleDitto · 18/07/2023 06:09

Your colleagues are fucking arseholes OP. That’s out and out bullying, and you should bring them up on the at. Totally unacceptable primary school level of behaviour!

I’ve never heard of an image consultant before, so I’m not sure what that role entails of entirely. But, if you’re a confident and decent person then that usually out does absolutely anything you could be physically.

I’m sorry you’re having to deal with this bullshit!

Tanfastic · 18/07/2023 06:24

How old are your colleagues...12? 🤬

no scrap that even my teen wouldn't do something so unkind.

You need to tell your manager op.

malificent7 · 18/07/2023 06:36

I'd be going straight to HR and asking them what they think. Cunts.

malificent7 · 18/07/2023 06:36

And your colleagues sound like they are primary school children.

willWillSmithsmith · 18/07/2023 07:18

Another woman who has been accused of having masculine looks who I think looks great is Jamie Lee Curtis. There are many amazing women who don’t fit in the typical mould of pretty.

Replacethelightbulb · 18/07/2023 07:46

Gosh OP, your colleagues sound like children. I can't imagine how terrible an adult you'd have to be, to be drawing cartoons of another person and sniggering about their looks.

'Striking' to me means you've got great bone structure and are unconventionally attractive. So no, there's nothing 'wrong' with you.

Personally I'd discuss this with HR. If they refuse to take action against the bullies, the company is on very shaky ground.

I came here to say this! All the shit she took as brienne, but she is hands down one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen.
I adore her face, figure, style! She is just absolutely gorgeous and I think my main girl crush!

If people can be mean about gwen, what chance do mere mortals have?!

Is that who Gwendoline Christie is? (I saw the name upthread but it meant nothing to me.) Brienne?

I agree - absolutely stunning-looking woman.

How about we alter the bullies behaviour by OP putting in a formal complaint? No one and I mean no one should accept this behaviour. What if someone had a facial birth mark and was bullied for this. Should they get up early every morning to camouflage it in order to fit in and not get bullied? We all have feelings and of course it's going to hurt when people get personal about our appearance. Shaking it off if we refuse to change our appearance is not something anyone should have to do. OP well done for calling out @GoadySockFucker. You're right it shouldn't matter how much makeup you wear or don't wear.

Lwrenagain · 18/07/2023 08:33

@Emotionalsupportviper yes! If you go on YouTube she covers her looks with vogue, my word, absolute goddess!
I loved her in Wednesday too, just so glamorous!

LighthouseCat · 18/07/2023 08:42

I don't think @AppleTurnover1000Degrees was trying to be nasty at all. Your colleagues however sounds utterly pathetic and immature. I interpret striking as attractive but not possibly not conventionally so. I had a friend who my mum used to say was striking- interesting in a good way. I am spectacularly unstriking I'd say. None of my features are strong or memorable!

Have you considered reporting this behaviour to your manager? Sounds like blatant bullying to me.

Defiantjazz · 18/07/2023 09:08

People who feel they're ugly or plain, it's because they're not appreciating their features. You're not telling me that out of all your physical characteristics you don't have - a lovely smile/pretty eyes/nice freckles/great cheek bones/lovely chubby cheeks/your great grandma's nose? Something that you think is at bare minimum, nice?
I'm not saying everyone is a model, not everyone has that exceptional beauty, be it modern standard beauty or old Hollywood style. But just because you're not Marilyn Monroe or Kim Kardashian, doesn't mean sweet fuck all.

Being unusual looking, being average looking, isn't ugly. It never has been, what's ugly is those people who walk into a room and your stomach drops because they're so awful to be around.

I've been called ugly my whole life, childhood, growing up, later online and it sucks hearing it, but here's the thing, I'm fucking not, because never once have I been someone who people will have felt uncomfortable around etc, and I have absolutely adorable freckles so fuck em all

That was quite inspiring 👍🏻

Really, commenting on people that where too much makeup can make them look like a drag queen isn't nasty? Words fail me sometimes.

Theblacksheepandme · 18/07/2023 09:24

I didn't mean to be nasty. I just think a bit of make up looks better than too much.

AppleTurnover1000Degrees · 18/07/2023 09:28

I also think that OP's colleagues are bitchy and childish. I would report to HR.

The people at op’s work are not going to stop bullying if they notice the op wears less make up

It’s more likely they’ll feel delighted they are having an impact on someone’s life

They are in the wrong, workplace bullying is actionable

AbsoIutelyLovely · 18/07/2023 09:31

Why are you focussing on what these poisonous tears are saying instead of dragging them to HR?

do that. Hold your striking head high. ❤️

ManateeFair · 18/07/2023 09:37

AppleTurnover1000Degrees · 17/07/2023 21:58

They sound awful.

Do you wear a lot of make up up? I find some people do look a bit drag queen with too much make up.

I find some people are arseholes for judging other people's makeup choices.
