Is there something wrong with how I look?

Straight to the point - I've discovered a group of colleagues are talking about me behind my back and sending each other cartoon drawings of me, saying that I look like a man, look like a drag queen, and that my nickname is Funny Face.

I've been told by a beautician that I have strong features, and an 'image consultant' that I am 'striking'. Whatever that means.

Any thoughts?

Thanks everyone. It's probably irrelevant but I'm a few years older than the group making the comments about me. I'm worried that their remarks are the general consensus of the office.

Whether or not HR or the Manager will act is another matter.

I wish I'd asked the beauty therapist what she meant by 'strong features'. Perhaps she was trying to nicely say that I do indeed look masculine ☹️

Well your colleagues look like cunts.

Report them.

Qbish · 17/07/2023 19:47

Who cares what you look like. Unless it's being used to bully you.

Get screenshots, if you can. And straight to HR.

MXVIT · 17/07/2023 19:48

OP - no one is physically ugly, no one has anything wrong with how they look. It's something put upon people by others.

What is ugly in the true definition of the word is what your colleagues have done. You need to channel your energy into making sure they feel the full force of your companies HR dept, because let me tell you now if I found anyone in my team had done this, although I don't have hiring and firing rights I wouldn't rest until the people that did had taken the appropriate action because they are no member of my team. any manager worth their salt would react the same.

PurplePens · 17/07/2023 19:49

I suppose all your colleagues are drop dead gorgeous are they!
Whether you look like a gargoyle or a supermodel is irrelevant, it's bullying and you need to put in a formal complaint to your manager.

ThatFraggle · 17/07/2023 19:49

You made me think of this. Was she beautiful? Arguably. Striking? Yes.

Regardless of how you look, you're being bullied.

I bet you they’d do it about anyone that was older

It’s not you

Really spiteful and bullying

Densol57 · 17/07/2023 19:52

Christ I remember this sort of spiteful work behaviour back in the 80’s …..not nowadays

Report the bastards !

They’ll have to act if you bring an official complaint. And you shouldn’t give it a moment’s thought. You’re just unlucky to have juvenile, bitchy colleagues, who will thoroughly deserve whatever action is taken.

For what it’s worth, I don’t think ‘strong features’ is in any way in itself an indication you’re odd-looking. He first person who came to mind was the model Erin O’Connor.

MXVIT · 17/07/2023 19:54

For what it's worth OP, im regularly called striking, i take it as a lovely compliment

Tresto · 17/07/2023 19:54

What horrid, pathetic colleagues you have. Least you know they are not good people to spend time with. There were groups like this at school who were so bothered about appearance and looks - it’s sad it’s still going on in the workplace.

FictionalCharacter · 17/07/2023 19:57

What @bonoslefteyebrow said. There is nothing wrong with looking any way at all.
This is childish, shallow, bitchy behaviour. Cartoon drawings? Are they 11 years old? They absolutely need to be pulled up on this.

LaMaG · 17/07/2023 19:57

OP they have gotten to you, the fuckers, if you are questioning your looks now. You say you are not a young woman so I'm sure you know already whether you have a distinctive or attractive or unattractive face or whatever. This is simply bullying, and a particularly nasty example too. Pls report it. I'm so sorry it must be an awful thing to experience.

Diversion · 17/07/2023 20:00

What horrible people, I would take the word striking and own it, hold your head high, embrace your looks and rejoice that you are not as horrible as they are.

MushMonster · 17/07/2023 20:03

Your colleagues are arseholes. That is all.

Epicstorm · 17/07/2023 20:08

Nasty spiteful people who are clearly ugly inside.
Your looks are irrelevant. This is unacceptable behaviour.

EvilElsa · 17/07/2023 20:09

Fucking hell OP, how did you find out?! I'm sorry, that's shit and hurtful. Please report the bunch of arseholes.
There is nothing wrong with how you look. There's nothing wrong with how anyone looks. We look how we look. I'd imagine all of us, including the cunty colleagues, have features others could take the piss out of. Even models get picked to bits -go on any insta page of a "perfect" bikini model and there will be negative comments about them. Some people just get a kick out of being mean and others jump on the bandwagon to be part of the crowd.
I hope you are doing OK.

CheshireDing · 17/07/2023 20:14

Are they adults OP ?

They are childish bullying idiots who need pulling up on their behaviour

CaramelMac · 17/07/2023 20:16

I’m certain there’s nothing wrong with how you look because there is no “right” way to look.

Your colleagues sound deeply unpleasant and need a good talking to by HR.

DrSbaitso · 17/07/2023 20:19

Any thoughts?

I think you work with a bunch of utter fucking pricks. And I bet you look fine.

Jongleterre · 17/07/2023 20:19

Christ on a bike! Even if you look like Bernard Bresslaw, it's disgusting and unprofessional of your colleagues to do this, especially if it's on work time that the emails and conversations take place.

Report it.

oakleaffy · 17/07/2023 20:21

Your workmates sound like a bunch of scrotes, OP.

Deeply immature and unpleasant.

Take it further if you feel it is bullying.

Liketoesforeyes · 17/07/2023 20:22

Wow, are you kidding, your coworkers sound like arseholes.

MouseMinge · 17/07/2023 20:25

Your colleagues are horrible, horrible people. To be more scientific about it they are a bunch of cunts. It doesn't matter what you look like, they are bullying you. If you're worried then strong features and striking could mean many things but as someone has already put up a photo of the stunning Erin O'Connor, then she is a fine example of a striking and strong featured woman. The thing is you look different and you stand out. These are not bad things and they are nasty little wastes of oxygen. I'm sure they're all drop dead gorgeous. Not. I'd report them.

GameOverBoys · 17/07/2023 20:27

Even if you were very unattractive, it’s still not okay! Possibly even worse.
If you were particularly funny looking you’d know about it by now, because unfortunately there are lots of twats in the world and people would’ve said horrible things before now. More likely they are just bullies who love behaving like they are in the mean girls film.
