Can everyone stop driving these fucking stupid ego-tanks in urban areas now?

Who needs a fucking wank panzer in Wimbledon???

Ban them in urban areas.

OP I actually agree with your opening post that these cars have no place in built up areas unless for essential work purposes. But honestly, you’ve been quite aggressive to some posters and it hasn’t helped your case at all, especially as you’re dismissing the idea that people may NEED them for work

I have to drive a big car for work reasons (has to have a big towing capacity to tow horses) and trust me I would much rather a smaller car but unfortunately they don’t have the towing capacity. but I would be happy with a ban in certain areas unless for essential work reasons and if that’s the case there could be some extra license or certificate or something like that. To be honest I don’t drive it in built up areas anyway because I only use it for work purposes on country roads. I suppose it’s like the dangerous dog argument- yes, any dog could be dangerous but a chihuahua will inflict much less damage than a pit bull. Any car will cause an accident but a big SUV type will cause more damage.

@ilovesooty

Well obviously!

Nobody had dogs, went camping, went to France, had children or lived in the countryside before WankPanzers were invented either.

There is already a thread on this, why do attention seeking people like the OP start another one! I am forever hiding duplicate threads!

Because the search function on here is shit

Wouldn't say it's hateful, just accurate.

OK then.

Why are people so dense!! Nobody is saying ban all cars because there have been accidents

Of course we should ban CERTAIN types of cars in urban environments.

Of course we should ban CERTAIN breeds of dogs in urban environments

Of course we should ban CERTAIN types of guns for some people.

And why shouldn't laws be changed after an incident such as this, it's not a knee-jerk reaction, it's a " let this not happen again" reaction.

This post is far too sensible.....who's betting not one single person will pay it any heed. Of course these things don't belong on city streets and roads but no one likes their faults pointed out to them

Hibiscrubbed · 07/07/2023 15:19

Someone else may have raised this, I’ve not read the whole thread, but by your logic would you also be looking to ban supercars/cars with ‘excessive’ speed capability? They might be a bit dangerous.

And would you also ban trucks and vans from ‘certain roads’? Could make deliveries difficult.

What about large electric vehicles? Or are they ok? Is it just body size or power to weight ratio that you’re considering?

Tour buses are a bit frivolous, where do we stand on those?

Fightyouforthatpie · 07/07/2023 15:20

I don't even have a dog in this fight, but really, the hatred and frothing is off the scale.

bellac11 · 07/07/2023 15:21

Shouldnt really have a dog on the back seat. We also chose our car around our dog at the time (large collie) and made sure it could fit his dog box in the back where he could be secured in safely. He wouldnt have fitted in golf so I would be concerned about a 14 stone Dane.

Im not sure I agree that wooden fencing is such a risk assessment issue either, countless schools and businesses have wooden fencing.

Something went badly wrong and a child died and many were injured, this would have happened with any car.

No one will know what the situation was with the driver until the police release more information, she might be charged, she might not, she might be charged but then not prosecuted/convicted. Who knows.

No, you don’t.

Yes. I do.

GreyTS · 07/07/2023 15:22

Don't worry @ghostyslovesheets that thing will disintegrate if you hit a fence, hardly comparable to a Ranger or a Hummer 😆

It's amazing what petty things people will use to justify this.

Farming is petty?

Fightyouforthatpie · 07/07/2023 15:22

The term wank panzer is straight from the playbook of tyre extinguishers.

ghostyslovesheets · 07/07/2023 15:05

OP do you have anything to actually say that informs the debate or did you come here to shout at everyone?

@Lemonade84 also mentioned using their car for camping trips

But hey just latch on to the dog argument?

I drive a Dacia Duster (such a prestige fancy car) because we camp a lot - often with 2 tents and equipment - also drive to Europe for self catering holidays and pack a lot of stuff. I'm sure that is also my problem - actually it's my choice and I'm happy with it.

What do you drive?

So you couldn’t camp without an SUV? Bollocks.

Most SUVs are designed for wider roads or countries with wider roads eg Australia, USA, Canada not for inner city living.

I drive an old Alfa Mito but thinking of getting an electric or hybrid. Used to drive Yaris.

Zanatdy · 07/07/2023 15:24

So many of these ridiculous size cars on my school run in Surrey. Not needed, and of course the size of the car contributed to the carnage

Didn't someone die in the Midlands because the Tyre Extinguishers targeted their car and then they couldn’t be driven to hospital by their wife?

There is an argument for high powered vehicles to need extra driver training. Plenty end up in bad accidents because of incapable drivers coming into some cash.

PostboxTopper · 07/07/2023 15:27

Like it or not, things have changed since the 70s. Larger cars make more sense for people with larger families (pets included) now they are available for many reasons as previously stated. It really is a heart-breaking tragedy.

DataNotLore · 07/07/2023 15:27

@Hibiscrubbed

Link?

That's an issue with the ambulance service. Not lack of a serviceable wankpanzer

Part of it is because of the introduction of car seat laws. Needing to fit two or three in means you need a bigger car.

I have yet to extinguish a single tyre unfortunately.

Not sure if you are being deliberately obtuse or if you just don't understand how to engage in a discussion but I stated that we went camping in the 1970's and how safe it was - which you ignored.

I am not justifying anything - I don't feel the need to - I like my car and wont be moving to a hot hatch any time soon
