Can everyone stop driving these fucking stupid ego-tanks in urban areas now?

Who needs a fucking wank panzer in Wimbledon???

Ban them in urban areas.

No I've said all along that an epidemic isn't required to start thinking about changes in who can drive them.

OneTC · 14/07/2023 22:09

Because no one is suggesting anyone gives up their transport, just that they might like to opt for a more (unrelated) child friendly form

EggWind · 14/07/2023 22:20

Yeah, but people who've clearly said they need big cars for work are being told 'not our problem'. I used to have a pickup because I needed it to get around the big construction sites I work on - big newbuild estates etc.

There are plenty of things that kill more people which haven't been banned.

OneTC · 14/07/2023 22:39

Like I said earlier if you have a demonstrable need then crack on, get an exception added to your license, your plate goes on a database and you don't get fined 5k a day for going into London. whether that's disability, work or whatever. But people who are buying these for the school run don't need them

EggWind · 14/07/2023 22:46

Well, yeah they don't need them but big houses/second houses are equally unnecessary alongside cars that can do 200mph. I'd be up for extra tests however as it's frustrating how often I have to back up a 35ft truck on tight lanes due to women who seemingly don't know how to reverse their range rover.

Why are you so resistant to the facts provided? It's like willful ignorance. You keep making baseless claims without anything to back it up.

Like 'loads of fiestas' and that they're doing 60 in a 30.

Do you know there are about 33 million cars on UK roads. Fiesta ST's make up a tiny percentage. Do you know how I know? Anyone can visit How Many Left and find out for themselves. There are less than 8 thousand so about 0.002%.

There's more Range Rovers alone than Fiesta STs. The fact is, there are worse outcomes for people when hit by SUV's and that's a fact. Your inability to recognise the difference between the frontal area of your pick-up and its mass really is astounding.

How Many Left?

How Many Left. See how many cars of any make and model are left on Britain's roads.

We have a SUV, EV and small ICE car which we tow for holidays, we just use each one as appropriate, we live fairly rurally though and I would just use the EV for city driving rather than the SUV. People should buy cars appropriately for different situations.

Houses: don't run people over

200mph: illegal, as with all speeding, as this is recognised to be dangerous and worsens outcomes so there are laws that attempt to mitigate it's impact on others.

I would happily support laws that limited top speed and engine power and fuel economy. They can set them geographically and remotely if they like so you can still buy a 200mph car and drive it that fast on tracks or wherever you're allowed.

If you allow that some SUVs are necessary, then like other necessary vehicles like 35t trucks, bin lorries, ambulances etc they will stay. If we twisted all the unnecessary ones with something with a smaller footprint then the lives of all those 35t, ambos etc would be sufficiently improved. There was someone arguing on the other thread that they needed it for their cleaning business. That's not need, any microvan has more space for equipment. There was someone else who said they could get a different vehicle to accommodate their disability but thought it looked a bit shit. That's not need either.

A quick Google image search shows that the majority of SUVs are very much not intended for grunt work. The price and the specs they are available in from the factory further betray their true intended use

😅<-- I clicked this by accident and now my phone won't delete it. plz ignore

And twisted should say replaced :|
