Settle an argument re: pegs on the washing line

Important stuff this!

DH and I disagree about what should happen to pegs on the washing line after you've taken the washing in.

DH takes all of the pegs off, every time. He claims that if you don't do this, it creates work next time you hang stuff up because you have to move the pegs out of the way.

Obviously, I just leave them up and he thinks this is bad practice. I think taking them down creates work the next time because you have to get them all out again.

So, over to you!

YANBU = Keep the pegs up
YABU = take the pegs down every time and put them in their special little peg bag.

What say you MN? 🤔

I take them down and put them in a plastic tub.

yogasaurus · 23/06/2023 21:04

Pegs away, every time. I have a retractable line, but I wouldn’t leave them out on a static line either

assonant · 23/06/2023 21:04

I'm with your DH. Always take them off. I agree with him that it saves time, but also over time they rust or the plastic goes brittle if you leave them outside.

Malbecfan · 23/06/2023 21:05

Take them down otherwise they go mouldy if you leave them out in the rain

hedgehoglurker · 23/06/2023 21:05

Take down every time, otherwise they make wonderful tiny spider homes on the line.

iwantawisteriathisyear · 23/06/2023 21:06

I'm with your DH on this one. Leaving pegs on the line is annoying when you next put your washing out. Plus, they also go rusty.

Applebyapples · 23/06/2023 21:06

My 86 year old grandmother is horrified if she sees pegs left on a washing line, she calls it "slovenly" 😆

YouOk · 23/06/2023 21:07

no pegs on the line. It's common. So said my mum and she's dead so you can't argue with her.

BMW6 · 23/06/2023 21:07

I find the plastic pegs go brittle and break eventually so I bring them in every time to extend their life.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 23/06/2023 21:07

Plastic pegs eventually crumble due to UV light, which leads to plastic pollution.

Wooden ones also degrade but slower and the springs can rust.

Always put everything away

SBAM · 23/06/2023 21:07

Take them down, otherwise next time I hang the washing the clothes might not have matching pegs (I have different colours/shapes bought at different times and I don’t like to have different types of peg on the same item. Plus I like to use the bigger ones for towels or duvets). The pegs live in the peg basket.

AlisonDonut · 23/06/2023 21:08

We have a apron that the pegs live in whilst not on the line.

CopperSeahorses · 23/06/2023 21:08

I put pegs in the peg basket and retract the washing line.

BMW6 · 23/06/2023 21:08

Lol snap brrrrrrrrrrrr 🤣

AddictedtoCrunchies · 23/06/2023 21:08

Pegs go in the peg tub which goes in the dry and stops the pegs getting manky in the rain.

Surely if you unpeg the washing then repeg the peg on the line then when you have another load you have to unpeg the peg then repeg it on the clothes. So that's 4x pegging and unpegging. Whereas if you unpeg the item then put the peg in the pot, the next time you peg something you just take the peg out the pot and peg it. So that's 2x unpegging and pegging. 50% less pegging. See? Grin

GeriatricMumma · 23/06/2023 21:09

Put them away or you get spoods 🕷️ in them.

Purplestorm83 · 23/06/2023 21:09

Take them down! Otherwise they go brittle and snap/go rusty and you have to remove them to put the next laundry up anyway!

EdithStourton · 23/06/2023 21:09

Take them down, otherwise wooden ones go mouldy and rusty, and plastic ones fade and get brittle, and in both cases the springs go rusty and stain your clothes.

Also, it looks messy to leave them up.

NameChangeSorryNotSorry · 23/06/2023 21:10

Team DH. Leaving pegs on the line is poor peg practice.

strawberry2017 · 23/06/2023 21:10

Pegs away!

justcba · 23/06/2023 21:10

If you've left your pegs on, how do you wipe your line ...? 😁

GwinCoch · 23/06/2023 21:10

Pegs away, otherwise the mechanism can rust prematurely. Why else do you own a peg bag?!

Thisisjustmyface · 23/06/2023 21:10

I want to agree with everyone else, but I'm lazy and I leave them on the line too op 🤣

RedCrestedDragon · 23/06/2023 21:11

Leave them up here on a retractable line. I only take them off if I’m putting the line away, what’s the point?

thaisweetchill · 23/06/2023 21:11

Take them off. Seeing my retractable line out with pegs on send me insane!
