Settle an argument re: pegs on the washing line

Important stuff this!

DH and I disagree about what should happen to pegs on the washing line after you've taken the washing in.

DH takes all of the pegs off, every time. He claims that if you don't do this, it creates work next time you hang stuff up because you have to move the pegs out of the way.

Obviously, I just leave them up and he thinks this is bad practice. I think taking them down creates work the next time because you have to get them all out again.

So, over to you!

YANBU = Keep the pegs up
YABU = take the pegs down every time and put them in their special little peg bag.

What say you MN? 🤔

I'm slovenly and leave pegs on the line as it is quicker. When you peg the washing out the pegs are ready and waiting.

You are my kindred spirit!!

Sorry op l am team dh!

Doggymummar · 23/06/2023 21:21

I have stainless steel ones and they stayed out all winter not rusty otpr anything

7eleven · 23/06/2023 21:21

I leave them out and am always irritated that my husband has put them away, next time I go out. Sooo unnecessary 😊

QueenofKattegat · 23/06/2023 21:21

Leave them on the line. Adjust them so they aren't gripping the line and can be shoved along to make space for the next load. Obviously complain about all the mini spiders but still leave them out.

blackrabbitwhiterabbit · 23/06/2023 21:22

I leave the damned things there.

maximist · 23/06/2023 21:22

Take the pegs off, put them in their basket, put the rotary drier down, put its cover on, lift it out of its hole in the lawn, put cover back on hole, put drier in its corner out of the way, take pegs inside.

Which all takes less time to do than it does to type!

MrsSamR · 23/06/2023 21:22

For you peg leaver oner people, isn't it more of a faff to put the pegs back on the line after you've unpegged the washing than putting them in the peg bag? And what if it rains? Aren't they wet for next time? It's stressing me out thinking about it.

Bennyjoon · 23/06/2023 21:23

YABU. Spiders and bugs.

EllaRaines · 23/06/2023 21:23

Take them down otherwise spiders crawl in them or make webs between them.

EightMonthsScared · 23/06/2023 21:23

Ah! This is not going the way I anticipated at all!

It probably would've been helpful if I'd explained that our line is in a covered porch. It's not exposed so the pegs won't ever go rusty or mouldy.

God damn. Thought I'd be delivering a resounding 'ha! See!' later on this evening.

If I leave mine outside they become sun bleached. Then brittle and afterwards they break. I am with your DH.

Bennyjoon · 23/06/2023 21:23

But my DH is with you!

Thank you!

Today I learned people took pegs off their washing line when not in use. That had never occurred to me even though my pegs snap and break quite a bit.

I only use my washing line for maybe 2 weeks a year though, but I think I might start copying else in future. Sorry OP.

ditalini · 23/06/2023 21:25

No pegs on line because I find it annoying to not have to unpeg if I'm hanging up big items like sheets or towels after previously having loads of pants and shorts out.

I keep the tub outside though because I'm in a flat, share the line with student neighbours and am happy to share pegs. Also too lazy to take them upstairs.

They do eventually go brittle and break so best not to leave them out really.

IsItHalfTermYetHelp · 23/06/2023 21:25

I’m a slattern so my pegs stay on the line. There. I said it. Ideally they’d be taken in but I can’t be arsed.

SleepydogLies · 23/06/2023 21:26

Leave them on the line! Who has time for anything else?

Augend23 · 23/06/2023 21:26

I would take them off to avoid sun damage.

But that doesn't apply if you're in a porch. I would probably put them in their bag still but not religiously and not move the bag if it was under cover.

Oysterbabe · 23/06/2023 21:27

They go back in the peg bag and line is put away.

keyboardkat · 23/06/2023 21:27

Pegs stay on my line. It is wall mounted four sides. I am not going to get a fecking pinny or a basket or anything like that. I do my way!

I also never hang shirts or tops with pegs as I use the magic clips and put them on hangers. Lift them off and straight in the wardrobe.

One day I was bored and I put all the wooden pegs in a bowl of watered down bleach. They were like new in an hour. Back on the line to dry waiting for the bits I DO hang up.

These are the clips for the hangers. As you can see I am a lazy mare - with good time management though!

Staygoldponyboystaygold · 23/06/2023 21:28

It has never occurred to me to leave the pegs on the line. Surely it’s easier to put them in a basket than to put them back on the line?

froginawell · 23/06/2023 21:28

assonant · 23/06/2023 21:04

I'm with your DH. Always take them off. I agree with him that it saves time, but also over time they rust or the plastic goes brittle if you leave them outside.

This! I put mine away to make the pegs last longer...

Stratocumulus · 23/06/2023 21:28

Applebyapples · 23/06/2023 21:06

My 86 year old grandmother is horrified if she sees pegs left on a washing line, she calls it "slovenly" 😆

This.

I always bring mine in. I have an over-the-shoulder peg bag so it’s easy.
Plastic pegs go brittle and break.
Wooden pegs get weathered and some go black when it rains.
Nah, always bring your pegs in. It’s good practice to do so.
