Settle an argument re: pegs on the washing line

Important stuff this!

DH and I disagree about what should happen to pegs on the washing line after you've taken the washing in.

DH takes all of the pegs off, every time. He claims that if you don't do this, it creates work next time you hang stuff up because you have to move the pegs out of the way.

Obviously, I just leave them up and he thinks this is bad practice. I think taking them down creates work the next time because you have to get them all out again.

So, over to you!

YANBU = Keep the pegs up
YABU = take the pegs down every time and put them in their special little peg bag.

What say you MN? 🤔

@Emotionalsupportviper "No you don't! They haven't time to wriggle inside the pegs because they are too busy plotting how to rub their little spider willies on the washing."

That is class! 😂😂

I'm now having an internal debate as to whether spiders have willies or not.

Part of me thinks not, definitely not.

Another part of me thinks they must do, or how would they reproduce.

I'm so not googling it.

Imagine if you did and then got hacked by the DM when they go poking around to see who the OP is in RL... 😂😂😂

UsingChangeofName · 23/06/2023 23:19

pp's Grandmother is obviously right. You are clearly a slattern and your dh is right.

BePatient · 23/06/2023 23:19

wildworldtumes · 23/06/2023 21:56

I'm laughing at the peg-bag folk who think I waste time unclipping the pegs when I hang out new stuff.

Just slide the fuckers across into a bunch to create whatever t shirt/trouser/sock shaped gap I need.

So much to learn..

No! But they get stuck and hang on so tight to that part of the line - they don't want to budge over!

BePatient · 23/06/2023 23:20

TroysMammy · 23/06/2023 21:59

Not only do I take my pegs off I also collapse my rotary drier and cover it with a waterproof zip up green condom.

Max safety from spider willies!

BePatient · 23/06/2023 23:21

theelectricnorth · 23/06/2023 22:15

I thought it was just common sense that you had to take them in or spiders might drag their willies along the pegs at night?

😂

closeyourpapers · 23/06/2023 23:26

One of the reasons I can't be bothered with my line and make like an Elizabethan with the hedge instead is wrestling with the sodding green condom thing. I bought it so I didn't have to look at the ugly foldy-uppy line. Now I'm looking at a giant green condom instead. I should just get rid of the whole lot and embrace the hedge full time.

Mindovermatter247 · 23/06/2023 23:28

We leave them on, only take them off if it’s super windy… they come in for the winter though.

Itslookinglikeabeautifulday · 23/06/2023 23:29

Put them away. You don't want them darked on.

Batalax · 23/06/2023 23:31

Poor op. It seems that you are so, so wrong.

Have you plucked up the courage to tell dh yet?

EightMonthsScared · 23/06/2023 23:47

Have you plucked up the courage to tell dh yet?

No way! I'm never even telling him that I started this thread.

I always leave mine on the line.

starfishmummy · 24/06/2023 00:07

Take them off as they get dirty. Also you need to move them to wipe the line before hanging a load out.

Malbecmoron · 24/06/2023 00:32

Pegs left on the line, every time. Much easier.

MysteryBelle · 24/06/2023 01:11

I love the poster too who said she throws the clothes on the hedges like the Elizabethans. I would like to hear more of her daily routine 😂

MysteryBelle · 24/06/2023 01:14

and yes, don’t let the pegs get darked on, one of the all time best.

You must have the same washing line as me as my cover is also green. Is it a 4 sided square Brabantia number that came with its own peg bag and wooden pegs? Was genuinely so excited when my husband bought it for me!

Poppysmom22 · 24/06/2023 05:56

No spuggies left on the line in this house

UseOfWeapons · 24/06/2023 06:07

I always take them off. And wipe the line before I use it. Washing lines get filthy, and the amount of crap that wipes off is better not on my washing.

MissMogwai · 24/06/2023 06:34

I leave them on the line too.

They do get ruined and snap, I buy more and the cycle continues.

I'd like to say I'll change my ways after reading this thread but it's unlikely

Cotswoldmama · 24/06/2023 06:59

I leave them on as to me it saves time. They go mouldy and rot but for me it's quicker and easier. If he put them away it wouldn't bother me but i would do it personally.

SBAM · 24/06/2023 07:02

Thanks to @Mexicansky and @JohnnyYenSetHimselfOnFireAgain for the peg-matching solidarity. I don’t match the peg colour to the washing though like PP, you are truly one to aspire to!

My pegs live in a big tub rather than a peg bag because I have loads, and also have a Socktopus who lives in the tub.

I wonder if this is the same poster who said she chucks her wet bedding on the deck to dry instead of hanging it up, in a previous laundry thread?

Pegs are an 18th century invention. We once had a very old honeysuckle with lots of woody stems by the back door. I used to hang shirts on hangers from it. No pegs.

Pegs in the peg bag, line down and covered. Then it’s ready to go for the next time.

Line unfolded with pegs already in place is so much more ready to go though!
