Important stuff this!

DH and I disagree about what should happen to pegs on the washing line after you've taken the washing in.

DH takes all of the pegs off, every time. He claims that if you don't do this, it creates work next time you hang stuff up because you have to move the pegs out of the way.

Obviously, I just leave them up and he thinks this is bad practice. I think taking them down creates work the next time because you have to get them all out again.

So, over to you!

YANBU = Keep the pegs up
YABU = take the pegs down every time and put them in their special little peg bag.

What say you MN? 🤔

I put small things on the inner lines and big things on the outer ones and only use alternate lines so need roughly the same sumner of pegs on each section each time.

For you peg leaver oner people, isn't it more of a faff to put the pegs back on the line after you've unpegged the washing than putting them in the peg bag? And what if it rains? Aren't they wet for next time? It's stressing me out thinking about it.

I unpeg to release the clothing then instantly repeg on the line, it takes no more time than putting the peg in a basket/bag. If the peg gets wet that's ok because it's being used to hold something that's wet, so they dry together.

Givenupgivingashit · 23/06/2023 21:29

Pegs away in a peg bag and washing line retracted too

CanoeAndOut · 23/06/2023 21:30

I take them off. It's never occurred to me not to do so. Plus they last longer if correctly stored.

Blackalice · 23/06/2023 21:31

Definitely team DH here!

no pegs on the line. It's common. So said my mum and she's dead so you can't argue with her.

I really needed a laugh tonight, 😂😂😂

EightMonthsScared · 23/06/2023 21:31

Is it just me or am I getting a 25-page thread vibes?!

Definitely and I am full of regret.

I'm just going to bold this for when The Daily Mail starts their write-up:

I FORGOT TO SAY THAT MY LINE IS COVERED - IT'S IN THE PORCH. SO THE PEGS WILL NEVER GO RUSTY OR MOULDY.

THIS IS CRITICAL INFORMATION THAT I NEGLECTED TO PROVIDE. THANK YOU.

My DH leaves them out. I really hate this.

It isn’t actually any less work to bring them in. We have a peg bag you can wear on your shoulder, you have to open the peg to release the item of clothing. It can go in the bag in the same movement.

Leaving them out looks bad, I can hear words like “slattern” reverberate in my head when I see them, it ruins the pegs, plus you won’t need the exact same configuration of pegs next time unless your laundry is very bizarrely uniform, which from the information presented I don’t expect it is!

My 86 year old grandmother is horrified if she sees pegs left on a washing line, she calls it "slovenly" 😆

Your grandmother is a very wise woman.

Take them down. Pegs left on a line look messy.

Greenfree · 23/06/2023 21:34

Even if it's in the porch I'd still take the pegs off as it's easier to hang stuff next time - plus I'd hate seeing pegs on an empty line

Onthegrid · 23/06/2023 21:35

Pegs off, into box and inside
Line folded with cover on
Every time
Keeps it clean from bird poop and free of spiders

Flymetothetoon · 23/06/2023 21:40

They may be under cover at night but will still get darked on and have spider willies rub their jizz on them so it's really not worth the risk of leaving them out.

Dullardmullard · 23/06/2023 21:40

mine stay on the line always

nopuppiesallowed · 23/06/2023 21:40

I drape washing on my airer outside. No pegs 😊

FrostieBoabby · 23/06/2023 21:41

Pegs away in the peg bag everytime, showing my age here but my dear Grandma who died 30+ years ago used to tutt and judge the washing lines with pegs left out 😂.

I only bring mine in so they don't end up with bird shit on them, also removes the risk of contamination via spider's willies.......

darkmodeon · 23/06/2023 21:42

Take them off or they go manky

Montii · 23/06/2023 21:42

I leave my pegs on the line as spacers because I hang things straight onto coat hangers out of the washing machine, hang them on the line in between the pegs and then put them straight away into the cupboards.

Everything that doesn’t go on a coat hanger goes in the dryer.

GeriatricMumma · 23/06/2023 21:09

Put them away or you get spoods 🕷️ in them.

No you don't! They haven't time to wriggle inside the pegs because they are too busy plotting how to rub their little spider willies on the washing.

WickedSerious · 23/06/2023 21:43

I've always taken them off the line, same as my mother did.

Emotionalsupportviper · 23/06/2023 21:43

I leave mine out because I am too lazy to collect them in

GwinCoch · 23/06/2023 21:43

Spider willies, too funny! 😆

YABU

stbrandonsboat · 23/06/2023 21:44

I will not have pegs left out on the line. Standards have to be maintained. I've even trained dh to collect them in 😂

IndigoSkye · 23/06/2023 21:44

I leave mine on the line but largely through laziness rather than design!
