To think this lady was rude

We are at the seaside and I took my DD4 to a little place with pond and ducks, a few animals like rabbits and goats and a cafe so I presumed kid friendly but I felt we were not welcome. My Dd wanted an ice cream so asked for which one she wanted and said please and as the lady was making it she said ‘I want my chocolate ice cream please’ and the lady almost shouted saying ‘I’m making it CHILD’ but not in a jokey way and then she grimaced at us. I asked which way the animals were as it didn’t say and she was very snappy

Hot and bothered at the end of the day!

Reehhahh · 21/06/2023 16:05

I would have thought that but it had only been open an hour when we got there and wasn’t bus

Maybe she thought she was being criticised for being slow or something? Agree that it might just be a combo of the heat, misunderstanding the tone, whatever. I wouldn't really spend time thinking on it any further.

SerfnTerf · 21/06/2023 16:08

She was rude.

But tbf your DD should know by now (barring any unmentioned additional needs) that you don't repeat requests for something when you can see that someone is already getting it for you! I taught mine very young that this counted as pestering and that it a) didn't hurry things up and b) annoyed me.

Maddy70 · 21/06/2023 16:08

She was rude. But noone knows what's going on in everyone's lives. Maybe she's holding on my a thread

SunLover1985 · 21/06/2023 16:09

She was rude. Some people just are.

BabyBabyBumBum · 21/06/2023 16:09

I want never gets.

ChangeIsInevitable · 21/06/2023 16:10

Some people can be grumpy and rude even if they work in a customer facing role and they're serving kids. It happens. Not nice but I'd move on.

If you have options, never go there again. If not, then go, get your stuff, pay and don't look her in the face or seek any kind of exchange besides the transaction you're there for. If you don't 'notice' her, it won't bother you.

WhenIWasAFieldMyself · 21/06/2023 16:10

She was rude, but so was the child. "I want" won't get.

Desperatetime · 21/06/2023 16:10

Yes she was rude

StuffYouAllInTheCrust · 21/06/2023 16:11

Horribly rude, I would’ve told her where to stick it. Little one is only 4!

Berlinlover · 21/06/2023 16:12

I work with the public and if a child said “I want” I would blank them.

Peacepudding · 21/06/2023 16:12

Could your child not see that she was doing her ice cream? Woman probably fed up with rude kids and you bore the brunt

BitOutOfPractice · 21/06/2023 16:14

Lady was slightly off with you hours ago and you’re still mulling it over enough to post on mn?

Mummy2mybear · 21/06/2023 16:15

I would have said something im afraid she was totally out of order, I dont care if she was having a bad day she need to control it no need for her to talk to your daughter like that.

strawberrywhisk · 21/06/2023 16:18

It's a hot day, the woman sounds at the end of her tether and probably saw your little one as being demanding, without you stepping in and telling her to be patient.

strawberrywhisk · 21/06/2023 16:18

Telling your child to be patient, not the woman

Malarandras · 21/06/2023 16:20

She was rude and unprofessional. Some people are not very good at their jobs though.

SirenSays · 21/06/2023 16:21

My old nursery manager used to respond to every childs I Want! with I want a million pounds

tillytoodles1 · 21/06/2023 16:21

Years ago when I was little my parents took me to Blackpool for the day. I was taking ages to decide what stick of rock to buy as the queue built up.
The owner told me to fuck off!

Suprima · 21/06/2023 16:22

The lady sounds pretty rude, but as someone who has been in that position in a serving position- I would have internally eyerolled and said ‘going as quick as I possibly can!’ in a singsongy tone.

I would have told my DD off for repeating the request. It’s also rude to pester someone when you can see they are already doing what you’ve requested!!

LadyWiddiothethird · 21/06/2023 16:23

Yes she was rude,as was your child.Teach her to be patient.

BabyBabyBumBum · 21/06/2023 16:23

OP, did you correct your child? Did you explain it's not I want, it's I would like?
