To think this lady was rude

We are at the seaside and I took my DD4 to a little place with pond and ducks, a few animals like rabbits and goats and a cafe so I presumed kid friendly but I felt we were not welcome. My Dd wanted an ice cream so asked for which one she wanted and said please and as the lady was making it she said ‘I want my chocolate ice cream please’ and the lady almost shouted saying ‘I’m making it CHILD’ but not in a jokey way and then she grimaced at us. I asked which way the animals were as it didn’t say and she was very snappy

Maybe teach your child to say "I would like" rather than "I want". I suspect the serving lady picked up and mirrored your daughter's seemingly rude demand rather than appreciating she just wasn't articulating herself properly.

She was rude.

But tbf your DD should know by now (barring any unmentioned additional needs) that you don't repeat requests for something when you can see that someone is already getting it for you! I taught mine very young that this counted as pestering and that it a) didn't hurry things up and b) annoyed me.

The child is 4, not 7.

LaDamaDeElche · 22/06/2023 20:30

I stopped reading this on the fourth page because of the usual batshit responses. Your child is developmentally normal and this woman was definitely curt.

Hankunamatata · 22/06/2023 20:38

Lol got to love auto correct 🤣

So you had ordered the ice cream, lady was making it and your gangster asked again. You know she took it as your dd being rude and trying to rush her

Is 'gangster' a typo? Mumsnet is not a serious place. Can't believe what I'm reading. 😅😅

My one hand typing is illegible. Just can't be done. 😅

"I want" or "I would like" who cares as long as they include the word "please".

@WeeWillyWinkie9 mum i not a manager, mum is the parent. The poor kid was jst being child ffs
I think you mustve been the rude icecream lady.

does nobody teach their kids manners? @UnshakenNeedsStirring you obviously didn't teach your kid(s) manners but don't worry society certainly will.

That is the issue, many parents use excuses because they can't be arsed to teach their kids stuff. Guaranteed if the child didn't get the ice cream this time for being rude and be made to apologise, that woman would not have been rude back and the child would've learned sharpish not to do it again.

You can say 'Fuck Off please', doesn't make the words any more palatable.

Avondale89 · 23/06/2023 18:32

How is this insane thread still going?

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 23/06/2023 18:52

@Heytheredeliah the kid is 4 ffs.

I am fully aware of that. I can read. Also, don't you swear at me. 4 is old enough to teach a child manners. Obviously nobody taught you any and I sincerely doubt you have taught your kids any either.

StevieNicksfan · 23/06/2023 19:05

@GeorgeMichaelsCat Absolutely ridiculous comparison!

Not at all. You can say 'please' after any statement, clearly does not make it OK.

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 23/06/2023 21:09

@Heytheredeliah hahahha I dont need to learn manners from spme one like you. I remember you from past threads. Awful

Imagine holding a four year old to a higher standard than a grown woman 😂 How embarrassing.

Your daughter was acting in an age appropriate manner and this woman was rude.

The child was 4 and corrected! You’re an adult and arguing on a parenting forum and getting your posts deleted?

And you think you hold a higher moral high ground…… really?

@UnshakenNeedsStirring is the one getting my posts deleted because I shamed her for something she said to me. She made sure it was deleted before anyone could see it. And yes I do think I hold the moral high ground
