Anyone else hate this weather

Too hot to walk far with the buggy like I usually do to keep toddler confined and occupied. She's too young to enjoy the pool, she likes it for about 10 minutes then just gets out and crawls on the concrete. Super guilt for just sitting indoors doing nothing because it's so glorious outside. And the last straw...I'm in thick leggings and a baggy thick top because I'm too fat to get my legs and belly out. Humbug.

I hate summer clothes, food

I don't understand comments like this.

Surely you just wear lighter materials of the clothes you might wear in winter?

There are clothes for all seasons for all shapes and sizes.

If you live in jeans/leggings and jumpers, just swap for linen or cotton loose trousers and loose tops.

Summer clothes don't have to be skimpy. I wearl loose summer dresses becasue they are much cooler than trousers or shorts.

And food - just eat what you enjoy eating

Im not pretending. Why would I pretend

Well, you accused those who love it of pretending.

Tidsleytiddy · 11/06/2023 23:10

What, so people really do love the humidity and the heat and the animals suffering? D me a favour ffs

Changington · 11/06/2023 23:13

Get a little push along trike thing for the toddler, much more fun than a pushchair.

I love the weather but hated summer with a toddler to be honest. They are 6 and 4 now and much more manageable. Hang in there, next year will be a little bit better. 🙏

Meadowland · 11/06/2023 23:19

@MissingMoominMamma. Well done for trying to be positive. But some people just seem to look for the negative.
I sometimes struggle when it gets too hot, but as you say, there are ways round it which don't involve moaning.

Spectre8 · 11/06/2023 23:22

Miserable af thanks to hayfever being horrendously bad. Fml bring on autumn

surejan24 · 11/06/2023 23:31

This is unashamedly a moaning thread. I was stressed out, bored, hot and flustered. We don't all have to enjoy the same things.

As it happened dh did a nice bbq and once the demon toddler was in bed and I had a plate of meat and a glass of wine in front of me (yes I know these things don't help in my ditch the leggings quest) I felt much happier.

I don't usually deal with the summer months especially well. I dislike being hot and I dislike the harsh glare of the sun, the only way I can describe it is it being too loud and the brightness makes me feel claustrophobic, it's very much a sensory overload that I struggle to enjoy but this year as I have entered the perimenopause I have lost all patience with it. It's awful. Everything feels magnified and I'd quite like it to piss off now.

Bit overdramatic.
I grew up in country with 30c summers and - 15/-20c winters (just a normal european country) . Animals only suffer if owners are dummies.
Dogs had access to shade and own paddling pool. They were totally fine and active except midday.

WoofWoofBeachLife · 12/06/2023 07:05

PollyDarton1 · 11/06/2023 20:14

Also - for those of you on SSRI/SSNI please keep yourself hydrated and cool - overheating and dehydration is more prevalent in those who take daily medication.

I wasn't aware of that thank you. My head was bursting all night. It was so hot everywhere in the house it was horrible. I was planning on taking the dogs to the beach early but the tides are high at 7.15. Plus Monday isn't a good day after all the tourist traffic over the weekend with rubbish left at their arse.

I like the heat. It isn't humid where I am, and we don't have any animals, but I don't like the idea of animals suffering

I also wear weather appropriate clothes, wear sunglasses and a hat, am not overweight and don't have big boobs, close curtains and windows on the sunny side of the house, open the loft hatch to let the heat rise, sit in the shade outside, love salad and summer foods and sit with my feet in a bowl of cold water on extremely hot days. Oh, and I drive my air conditioned car to my air conditioned office on days that I'm not working from home.

And lastly it isn't as hot where I live. We had a breezy 25 degrees yesterday.

I don't understand why you don't understand that many people love summer.

RampantIvy · 12/06/2023 07:34

@surejan24 please ditch the leggings and wear something more weather appropriate. You won't look any fatter and you will feel much more comfortable.

If you won't help yourself then I don't think any advice you get from mumsnetters will help.

Yants · 12/06/2023 07:39

Up until about my mid 30's I loved hot, sunny summer weather. Could stay out in it all day, would get a lovely tan and not burn.
Now in my 40's I can't stand anything over about 18c, I just become a hot, sticky, itchy mess.
The strength of the sun just feels so much more fierce now, I never tan anymore, just a constant cycle of burn and peel usually accompanied by prickly heat rash.
It just always feels so humid and stifling.
Either my body has changed or the strength of the sun has changed in the last few years!

Yep. Love it all.

You're being utterly ridiculous. FFS.

Xrays · 12/06/2023 08:34

I haven’t read the whole thread but op please, please don’t spend your life covering up in hot weather. Life really is too short. I’m a size 18-20 and I have realised I look fat whether I wear leggings and a “safety” cardigan or whether I wear a dress or shorts, so I just wear whatever I like. Honestly once you’ve done it a few times you realise absolutely no one cares and you feel so free and comfortable. I feel really sad so many plus sized women worry like this in the hot weather.

RampantIvy · 12/06/2023 08:53

Well said @Xrays .

I would also add that people are more likely to notice you and comment if you are wearing weather inappropriate clothes.

Smoky1107 · 12/06/2023 09:28

I don't particularly like it but this year I've invested in cotton t shorts and dresses, new fans, new shorts etc. I appreciate not every one has money to do that but even two cotton t shirts isn't expensive and will feel better than leggings etc.

Keep hydrated and try and stay in the shade

StrawberryWater · 12/06/2023 09:34

Hate this weather! Far too hot. I like a nice 21-22 and that’s my limit. It’s supposed to get up to 31 where I am today and the rest of the week it’s 27-28. 🔥🥵 Awful. I can’t do anything outside without burning.

I have plenty of fans, chilled drinks and loose light weight clothes though (Next do some really good flowy cotton skirts and trousers and Asda have some nice T-shirts in at the moment).

Thank you. I've been more sensible today and gone for a baggy dress with cycling shorts. Very self conscious with my bright white legs on show but it beats being boiling!

I love it. I hope it lasts a very long time. I have to live with the weather I hate for the majority of the year, so loving this.

The only problem is work. I start work at 12.00 pm today and I feel so resentful that I can't be out in the sun.

I WFH and my office/room is small with an attic window. I can't work outside. Being stuck in one small room, working when it's so lovely depresses me. I have next week off, but typically, I think it will be cooler.

WoofWoofBeachLife · 12/06/2023 11:12

The weather has turned some posters into crackpots today 🤣
It's actually a lot cooler here on the coast today. A bit overcast but not as humid. I hope you get some respite OP. I have some floaty pool dresses I got from Tesco that I use around the house and garden. They were about £6 last year. Xx

@MissingMoominMamma. Well done for trying to be positive. But some people just seem to look for the negative.
I sometimes struggle when it gets too hot, but as you say, there are ways round it which don't involve moaning.

If you like the heat there are positives.

If you spend the entire time not sleeping, worrying about burning and get dehydrated easier what's positive about it?

If your child also does sleep and turns into a grumpy shit then what's positive about it?

If you love gardening but can't actually go out in it and desparately need water what's positive about it?

A few days of nice weather fair enough. But weeks and weeks of it is just miserable. If you aren't suited / used to the climate it is just miserable.

GasPanic · 12/06/2023 12:18

No it's fine.

It's nice to have some heat.

I think a lot of people are grateful to be warm after a cold winter (not cold because of the weather but cold because they couldn't afford the heating) so hardly surprising they are happier now it has warmed up a little.

Fingers crossed it will be a hot summer.

Yep some people love it. Shock horror!

My dog loves laying in the sun outside of its peak- obviously not between 12 and 4- but she actively chooses to lay and get her vitamin d. She has a cooling pad to lay on indoors and water on walks. No suffering.

I struggle in the winter. I hate being cold. But I don't assume that people who love cold weather are weird or lying.
