Too hot to walk far with the buggy like I usually do to keep toddler confined and occupied. She's too young to enjoy the pool, she likes it for about 10 minutes then just gets out and crawls on the concrete. Super guilt for just sitting indoors doing nothing because it's so glorious outside. And the last straw...I'm in thick leggings and a baggy thick top because I'm too fat to get my legs and belly out. Humbug.

Meeee! I'm far more of an autumn and winter fan than a sun worshipper. More likely to be out and about in 2 degrees than 20 degrees! I like the fact there's lots of flowers and washing dries quickly in summer but that's about it for me.

I'm also plus sized and living in shorts and baggy t-shirts in the house where it's just us then when I go out I cover knee to neck and shoulder for modesty reasons so living in thin cropped leggings with a floaty dress / tunic on top. Loads on vinted atm in an 18-20. Or cropped linen trousers again vinted and a t-shirt. Or vest and very thin cardigan.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 11/06/2023 15:22

I hate it... More so today as i'm suffering with Gastro and feel utterly lousy

Lottapianos · 11/06/2023 15:22

'All I want is 23 degrees all day, sunshine, gentle breeze and then a drop down to about 13 at night with a soft rain every night from about midnight to 5am.'

That would be perfect 👍

HarlanPepper · 11/06/2023 15:23

Depends where you mean? The weather where I am is lovely. Sunny, not too hot. Nice breeze.

Mingomang · 11/06/2023 15:23

But thank G-d it has just broken and is now bucketing it down. The pear tree was starting to wilt and that’s a massive, very old specimen.

Fairly one dimensional view of things there. I'm very body conscious. I don't feel confident in many things and have a pretty set uniform of leggings and tops that I feel ok in. Consequently there isn't much else in my wardrobe and I haven't had the time or money to do a full summer shop for things I'll probably hate myself in anyway. HTH.

I do understand! Maybe have a look at Loveleggings? They do lightweight/ cropped leggings that might be more comfortable?

No I love it. Hope it stays like this until October just to piss off the ‘cosy, twinkly light and hot chocolate’ brigade,

😁☀

WoofWoofBeachLife · 11/06/2023 15:28

I love the sunshine, I can't handle the humidity. The dogs are pumped. We aren't equipped for the hot weather in this country. I said last year I would buy an AC unit and of course I haven't, and I'm melting.

Justcallmebebes · 11/06/2023 15:31

Nope. Love it, sorry

blueshoes · 11/06/2023 15:34

I grew up in a hot country. People stay indoors when the weather is like this. You would be marked out as a foreigner to venture out with kids in this weather.

Iamblossom · 11/06/2023 15:35

It is possible to remain cool in this weather and still enjoy it.

I run or walk dogs early when it's cool. It's not hot at 7.30am.

I'm sitting in my living room watching TV with all the windows open to the lovely sunny garden where my washing is drying on the line.

I've been for a swim in my local pool where I had a whole lane to myself.

I'm in shorts , t-shirt and birkenstocks.

I admit it's not pleasant when you have to walk around in the hot weather, but cars and offices and shops are cool.

What's the big deal?

Same here. I have the same AC regret this time of the year.

Balancing the cost of an AC unit v. the storage space for the rest of the year v. the number of times a year it is brought into service v sadly the cost of electricity to run it.

GG1986 · 11/06/2023 15:36

Sunshine and blue skies are great, but the muggy weather is just gross..

SoupDragon · 11/06/2023 15:38

changeyerheadworzel · 11/06/2023 15:21

Absolutely HATE it. I see no good in it at all. I am miserable.

Like me in autumn, winter and a lot of spring 😂

grimmers44 · 11/06/2023 15:45

Yeah me. I love sunny days but I like it to be pleasant t shirt weather with a gentle breeze so I can walk the dog any time! This hot muggy weather can bore off.

RampantIvy · 11/06/2023 15:52

Anyone else hate this weather?

No. We have a very pleasant and breezy 25 degrees here. Perfect summer weather for summer clothes but not unbearably hot. I finally got to power wash the patio for this year.

Really don't understand people who don't dress appropriately for the weather though, there are so many options these days,it's ridiculous to wear winter clothes on a day like this.

I agree @MrsPelligrinoPetrichor. I have never been able to understand why women (it's always women) feel too self conscious to wear loose fitting cotton or linen trousers or a loose fitting dress instead of leggings/jeans and jumpers in warm weather. Charity shops have loads of shirts and trousers at reasonable prices.

@surejan24 If you are body conscious please consider that you don't look any fatter in summer clothes than winter clothes.

Weather appropriate clothes in this weather do not have to be skimpy, but anything tight will always make you feel uncomfortaby hot

I genuinely don't understand people that enjoy feeling hot and sweaty.

Warm weather doesn't make everyone feel hot and sweaty @LadyGrinningSoul85

It's ok for a few days. But this is too long and too much for me.

I live in a part of the country that has been sitting under a cold grey cloud for weeks - we had 11 degrees and grey weather last week. Apart from spring bank holiday Saturday today is only the second day of proper summer weather we have had this year @RedToothBrush. And if you burn easily wear a loose fitting long sleeved cotton or linen shirt or tunic. As long as it is loose it will feel much cooler.

Why do so many mumsnetters hate summer?
I get that those with medical issues or are very overweight will struggle and those of you living in south facing flats with no outside space. But those won't apply to most people.

RampantIvy · 11/06/2023 15:53

It isn't muggy here in South Yorkshire which is why my post might irritate some.

VivaVivaa · 11/06/2023 15:54

I adore summer. I find it infinitely easier to parent young DC in the summer than the colder months. I do agree this is verging on too hot though! 24 ish degrees with a nice breeze is perfection.

surejan24 · 11/06/2023 16:00

I'm chuckling at the 'you don't look any fatter in a dress than you do in leggings' comments. Brutal but factual, typical MN haha. I think it's just about how I feel.

@justawee thank you for linking that tunic dress it's lovely. I'll have a look.

DeNeushoornHeeftEenHoorn · 11/06/2023 16:01

I'm fine indoors. I spent several thousand £££ installing top-of-the-range aircon throughout my house last year (London). If I have to venture out, however, I'll be miserable as fuck and in pain (autoimmune diseases that don't like extreme heat or cold.)

DarkDarkNight · 11/06/2023 16:05

It was unbearable yesterday, like walking around in a sauna. It’s the warm breeze that kills me, I could stand the heat if there was a cooling breeze.

Im also overweight but my son struggled yesterday as well and he’s a normal weight and was dressed appropriately. I think I’d probably like the weather more if I could waft around in a floaty sundress, but I’ll never love it.

Bluebellbike · 11/06/2023 16:11

I am OK with the heat so long as I don't have to be out too long in it. I went out early to do what needed doing.

It has just rained heavily here for a few minutes. Thunder is rumbling in the east but it didn't rain enough so I hope it happens again. My water butt needs refilling. At least it feels a bit fresher now.

Cat is not happy though. She was sleeping in the shade when the rain started and came rushing in. She wants to go out again but is waiting to see if it will happen again.

I think if I were free to just chill in the garden alone with a nice cold drink I'd feel differently. But toddlers and this weather are a nightmare. She won't keep a hat on. She gets even more irritable than usual. You'd think stripping her off and letting her run round the garden would be fine but no, she just gets into things she shouldn't and gets bored of everything I put out.

I'm fat, hot, sweaty, stressed and feeling guilty because the weather is nice and we should be doing something but aren't.

It gets better when they're a little older. I didn't used to like the hot weather but now with a nearly 2 year old it's a lot of fun. Once they're steady on their feet and you can take them out and run the legs off them, you can have really fun days out. Best purchase is the Osprey carrier. Let them walk for as long as they want then into the carrier when they're knackered.

Put something cooler on OP! Don't suffer. Maxi dress or lightweight jump suit with tshirt underneath, loose tshirt and long shorts?

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 11/06/2023 14:21

I absolutely hate it. And this is just the beginning...

Roll on autumn.

Don't worry, we are almost mid June then only 2 months of hot weather before it starts to cool. Can you tell I prefer Autumn and Winter?!
