Anyone else hate this weather

Too hot to walk far with the buggy like I usually do to keep toddler confined and occupied. She's too young to enjoy the pool, she likes it for about 10 minutes then just gets out and crawls on the concrete. Super guilt for just sitting indoors doing nothing because it's so glorious outside. And the last straw...I'm in thick leggings and a baggy thick top because I'm too fat to get my legs and belly out. Humbug.

I hate this weather. Love early spring and late autumn. Don't really mind winter.

JaneyGee · 11/06/2023 16:27

I love the sun, and it's nice to be warm for a change...but god I hate the heat. I absolutely feckin loathe it. This is just too much. I got stuck in traffic at lunchtime and nearly fainted in the car. I could never live somewhere like Texas or Australia. The summers would kill me.

Blondey2023 · 11/06/2023 16:30

Tidsleytiddy · 11/06/2023 15:14

Agree. I find it loathsome. Don’t know how anyone can pretend to love it

So agree with you both. It's like a weird contest when it gets hot for people to say how much they love it. Despite in the next sentence admitting it's too hot to sleep or how sweaty they are. So bizarre.

xabia · 11/06/2023 16:30

Love muggy!

justanothermanicmonday1 · 11/06/2023 16:30

I feel you. Heavily pregnant with a 1.5 year old. Exact same as you. Pool for 10 seconds and back out. Had her up the park with her DF. Now she's back in a nice cool house in her nappy waiting on her Sunday dinner 😆

DrCoconut · 11/06/2023 16:36

I'm just glad of a break from the relentless grey and rain. It was jeans and hoodies weather up to the end of last week. Now it's nice, pleasant summer weather without being too hot. Hoping for plenty more of it.

Mimilamore · 11/06/2023 16:36

I stay put when it is this hot or just go to the beach , 2 mins over the wall... don't feel bad, there are millions broiling in hot cars, car parks and exposed beauty spots! Save these for off peak if you can and warm, breezy days x

Lorrymum · 11/06/2023 16:39

Neighbours have started with the sodding barbecue. It will be on every evening/afternoon (unless it rains) until the end of September. Its right next to our shared fence and a few feet from our back door.
I have just had to dash out and take my sheets off the line!

Anyone else hate this weather?

No. We have a very pleasant and breezy 25 degrees here. Perfect summer weather for summer clothes but not unbearably hot. I finally got to power wash the patio for this year.

Really don't understand people who don't dress appropriately for the weather though, there are so many options these days,it's ridiculous to wear winter clothes on a day like this.

I agree @MrsPelligrinoPetrichor. I have never been able to understand why women (it's always women) feel too self conscious to wear loose fitting cotton or linen trousers or a loose fitting dress instead of leggings/jeans and jumpers in warm weather. Charity shops have loads of shirts and trousers at reasonable prices.

@surejan24 If you are body conscious please consider that you don't look any fatter in summer clothes than winter clothes.

Weather appropriate clothes in this weather do not have to be skimpy, but anything tight will always make you feel uncomfortaby hot

I genuinely don't understand people that enjoy feeling hot and sweaty.

Warm weather doesn't make everyone feel hot and sweaty @LadyGrinningSoul85

It's ok for a few days. But this is too long and too much for me.

I live in a part of the country that has been sitting under a cold grey cloud for weeks - we had 11 degrees and grey weather last week. Apart from spring bank holiday Saturday today is only the second day of proper summer weather we have had this year @RedToothBrush. And if you burn easily wear a loose fitting long sleeved cotton or linen shirt or tunic. As long as it is loose it will feel much cooler.

Why do so many mumsnetters hate summer?
I get that those with medical issues or are very overweight will struggle and those of you living in south facing flats with no outside space. But those won't apply to most people.

You can sunburn easily through lightweight cotton...

Can You Get Sunburnt When Wearing Cotton Clothing?
Cotton has a low UPF rating so while it does provide some protection it does not provide enough protection against the sun's harmful rays, so yes, you can get sunburnt wearing cotton clothing. Cotton tends to be lightweight and breathable, which can be comfortable in hot weather, but it also means that UV radiation can easily pass through the fabric. And the UPF rating just plummets once it’s wet, stretched, or worn out.

orangepoang · 11/06/2023 16:42

whether i'm at work or relaxing, very happy with anything from 24 -29 degrees in UK is more than fine by me.

i have huge varicose veins and am very pale skin tone - light weight trousers and factor 30 for me!

Fandabedodgy · 11/06/2023 16:48

The torrential rain all morning has been miserable. But good for the garden.

It's starting to dry up a bit so hoping things will improve

Wotks great in combination with suncream from own experience of pale arse fast burner

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 11/06/2023 17:09

I like the heat and sun but today is very muggy. I was singing in a choir this morning dressed in black uniform of trousers and t shirt and it was very sweaty. I did start losing weight in January though so I'm a bit more comfortable

Forestfriendlygarden · 11/06/2023 17:19

Looking forward to a cracking storm tonight...to clear the air

Sonnywith · 11/06/2023 17:22

I honestly don’t know how I will sleep tonight. 28 degrees in our new build. Have an early start for work. Anyone else baking hot inside their house?

user1471517095 · 11/06/2023 17:23

Bloody Hell. Here Oop North it's only the 3rd hot sunny day we've had this year.

Yeah. Considering it's usually not even proper winter but just more bitchy autumn....
I love snow

We have a Victorian house, and in hot weather the house is about 5C cooler than outside. Nice when it's actually hot out (rare), not so great in average weather.

Dee49 · 11/06/2023 17:52

Mum to a 14 month old here and I HEAR YOU OP. Mine won’t keep a hat on, is too young really to enjoy paddling pool for any length of time, wants outside to play but then when she’s out she wants inside, and so on all day. And also I’m self conscious in summer clothes too.

Tidsleytiddy · 11/06/2023 18:04

Im not pretending. Why would I pretend

Lcb123 · 11/06/2023 18:04

No way. I could have this weather every day.

PinkPlanter · 11/06/2023 18:09

I absolutely love this weather, the hotter the better. I suppose there’s only one thing to do for those that hate summer - hunker down, grin and bear it. Thats what those of us who hate winter, layers, cosy blankets and twinkly lights do ☺️

Forestfriendlygarden · 11/06/2023 18:14

Still looking forward to the storm.
