Anyone else hate this weather

Too hot to walk far with the buggy like I usually do to keep toddler confined and occupied. She's too young to enjoy the pool, she likes it for about 10 minutes then just gets out and crawls on the concrete. Super guilt for just sitting indoors doing nothing because it's so glorious outside. And the last straw...I'm in thick leggings and a baggy thick top because I'm too fat to get my legs and belly out. Humbug.

I'm in Scotland so I bloody love it.

TheLostNights · 11/06/2023 18:26

It's horrible.
We are in London so get the worst of it. I had to take paracetamol earlier as my head was pounding due to the heat. Slept awfully, woke up feeling dizzy and overheated. It's so bloody uncomfortable. If it's like this now, what will it be like in August....I dread to think. The thought of another summer like last years just makes me want to cry.

MedievalMadness · 11/06/2023 18:35

I absolutely hate it. I’m a sweating, irritable, uncomfortable, miserable wreck. I can’t regulate my body temperature properly and this heat makes me feel sick and weak. Drinking loads of fluids and trying to avoid going out in the afternoon. Roll on autumn. I honestly feel miserable to the point of depressed in this.

BelindaBears · 11/06/2023 18:37

Hayfever has annihilated me this weekend despite more than the recommended dose of fexofenadine, nose spray and eye drops. And it’s humid as fuck. I’d swap this for a winter’s day in a heartbeat, at least then I wouldn’t be sneezing every four seconds.

Cotonsugar · 11/06/2023 18:44

Yes it actually depresses me, makes me feel confined to the home and forces me to walk the dog extra early for his benefit not mine. Hate feeling hot and sweaty, always have. Autumn and winter favourite months.

Robbiethedog · 11/06/2023 18:45

Agree with the comment about loose clothing. I used to wilt in the heat, but we now spend some of the year in in a country with hot summers so I've had to find ways to manage.

Dresses are cooler than vests and t-shirts. Something loose in cotton or if the budget allows (vinted often has some) linen is even better. The tunic dresses linked above look good. Anything baggy that allows a bit of air to circulate will help.

People here don't go out when it's hot, nothing wrong with that at all. In the UK we've still got the pre-global warming mindset of having to be out as soon as the sun shines at it's not likely to be around for long. Now hot summers are the norm, stay in if it's too hot for you, nothing wrong with that at all.

Yes me too😐

avocadotofu · 11/06/2023 18:49

I do! I can't function in the heat.

Yetisrus · 11/06/2023 18:53

The other good thing about hot weather, Summer clothes take up less space in the washing machine which means I put it on less.

MissingMoominMamma · 11/06/2023 18:57

Get a pop up gazebo for the garden, and a fan if that helps. Then stick on some shorts and get thee some vit D!

Where there’s the will, there’s a way.

It's been hotter outside than in today! Why go outside?

I can get vit D on days it's not 30c. Oddly.

TellySavalashairbrush · 11/06/2023 19:13

Yep, I hate it. Always have. I hate summer clothes, food and the heat. This is even more so now I’m perimenopausal. I actually get irritated when i hear people harp on about sun bathing, having bbqs etc.

tennesseewhiskey1 · 11/06/2023 19:15

No.

Spottycarousel · 11/06/2023 19:21

I absolutely love it. Summer is my favourite time of year. I love the warm sun on my skin.

Brits and moaning about mild weather. Name a better duo.

Thesunnymood · 11/06/2023 15:17

Mumsnet makes me understand why there is such large proportion of uk population with low vit D🙈

Mine is probably more to do with the fact I'm working inside 8-6 mon to Friday so I don't get enough vitamin D however hard I try!

Went river swimming today, highly recommend that in warm weather

It's not mild! There's flipping health warnings about it.

SnowOnTheBeach1 · 11/06/2023 19:47

This type of weather makes my depression so much worse.

I'm quite an active person and enjoy being outdoors but this weather just zaps me of any energy and i'm completely drained by noon. Then I get irritable because I'm not sleeping. (Yes we have a fan on all night pointed directly at me, no it doesn't help) Then I get more upset because i'm too tired to workout so I just feel sluggish and lazy

I do think I wouldn't mind it as much if it was a bit more gradual. I do an outdoor fitness class a couple of times a week. On TUESDAY I did the class and kept my hoodie on the whole time as it was about 11 degrees and quite breezy. In the space of about four days the temperature has more than doubled to an uncomfortable 30 and it's got really muggy. It's not so much despising the heat (which I will fully admit I hate it) it's just that we never get the chance to properly climatize to it.

Just trying to give some positive thoughts. If you’re not up for that, crack on.

Emeraldrings · 11/06/2023 20:11

It's humid and cloudy here. I love the heat when its sunny but not when it's like this. It feels cooler tonight too.
I don't understand people saying there has been months of sunny hot weather already. Where do you live? I want to move there.

PollyDarton1 · 11/06/2023 20:13

I loathe it - but mainly because this type of heat (25c with humidity) triggers almighty migraines for me - I've had a childfree weekend (DS at his dads) and I've been able to do fuck all but lay in a dark room with an industrial strength fan blasting at me whilst periodically sipping water and downing meds.

Was supposed to see my best friend, have a BBQ, see my new nephew and go food shopping. And now I've got to try and sleep in it (migraine is better) and work tomorrow Envy

PollyDarton1 · 11/06/2023 20:14

Also - for those of you on SSRI/SSNI please keep yourself hydrated and cool - overheating and dehydration is more prevalent in those who take daily medication.

survivalmodemum · 11/06/2023 20:20

I feel you OP. I usually want to go and hide in a dark cave when it gets to Summer time. But now my kids are older and able to play in the garden independently while I chill on a lounger in the shade. I also have a stash of floaty maxi dresses that I feel comfortable in.

I used to feel really guilty about hating summer, but I genuinely think it’s tougher (as is everything) when you have little kids.

TokyoStories · 11/06/2023 20:27

I used to enjoy it but as I’ve got older I can’t stand it. I love sunshine but the heat paired with humidity is miserable for me. It doesn’t help that I live in a modern block of flats that’s super insulated so the heat gets trapped, especially when the temperature doesn’t drop much overnight.

I went out for a walk this morning but it was too much, I was covered in sweat and felt like I was walking through treacle. I’m a healthy BMI and relatively fit, plus was wearing linen. It just doesn’t agree with me.

But most of all I find it depressing because it didn’t used to be like this, these heatwaves aren’t normal in this country and it’s only going to get worse. It’s now so hot in places like Qatar that they have to have air conditioning units outside and tunnels for people to walk through just to make it possible to be outdoors and not collapse. And of course there’s the huge wildfires in Canada right now. I guess I struggle to understand how people can be so delighted with this kind of weather.

Dippydinosaurus · 11/06/2023 20:59

The last few weeks have been lovely - 20 degrees most days, sitting in the garden while my children can play. Nice and warm, perfect weather. Roll on this week and it's humid and sticky, hot by 11am and too hot for my young children to be out in the afternoon. Much too hot for me with young children I don't get to sit down all day. The only good part is the storms we've had the last 2 evenings
