Nice to see that the shark that killed a swimmer in Egypt was caught and beaten to death on the beach.

<Slow handclap>

Pretty horrific and awful for everyone involved.

Thesharkradar · 09/06/2023 18:01

Well, they should have at least given the shark a fair trial
Isnt that what we used to do here, back in the 13th century, put animals on trial?
obviously we now appreciate that animals have no capacity to make moral choices etc....but not in Egypt?
(I hoped this was a humorous thread about vacuum cleaners)

scrantonelectriccity · 09/06/2023 18:03

Awful behaviour

JayAlfredPrufrock · 09/06/2023 18:05

@Thesharkradar

I’m like nature. I abhor a vacuum.

Horrific. I think they thought this would help protect the tourist industry …

StylishM · 09/06/2023 18:05

YANBU - it's the same as when Steve Irwin was killed by a stingray and people were killing them all over the world in 'retaliation'. In the name of a man who adored wildlife and advocated for their habitats...

ReleasetheCrackHen · 09/06/2023 18:06

It was aTiger shark and sadly once they start attacking AND eating humans, they keep coming back for more human.

It’s not much different from putting down a dangerous dog.

Papernotplastic · 09/06/2023 18:08

Humanely euthanised. Not beaten to death with sticks.

Not always. Police have had to shoot dangerous dogs.
Are you going to swim up to a shark with a syringe?

Papernotplastic · 09/06/2023 18:11

Again, gunshots are quick.

I wouldn't call "clubbed to death" humane.

Im sure you’d make a fuss if the shark were shot instead.

ReleasetheCrackHen · 09/06/2023 18:13

It wasn’t humane, but necessary. That shark killed and then ate a person.

The poor creature was dragged out of the sea and literally punched/kicked to death. It will have died slowly, painfully and in utter terror. For engaging in its natural behaviour in its own habitat.

These creatures are endangered ffs. Not that it would be acceptable if they weren't! If you don't want to run the risk of being predated on by sea creatures, stay out of the fucking sea.

Oh well, there's no danger of humans becoming extinct due to Sharks exhibiting their normal behaviour. Sharks, however, are critically endangered as a direct consequences of humans and theirs.

Shocker as shark engages in natural shark behaviour in known shark territory.

Except that the shark in being a shark in its own environment. It's awful for the guy but sharks are just one more risk in a sea full of them. If You go into their territory, and it is their territory. it's a risk you run. We don't go hacking hills, trees and mountains to bits when people fall off them. Sharks are just another part of nature. It takes a staggering level of arrogance to insist that we can slaughter animals in their billions yet if a human dies then the shark and sharks generally have to be eliminated at all costs, even at the expense of other species like the young humpback whale who had to be freed from a shark net in Australia. Little wonder the planet is fucked. We think the planet belongs to us when we're just 1 of millions of species who share it.

Blondey2023 · 09/06/2023 18:20

I wish I hadn't seen the video of the poor guy being attacked. However killing the shark the way they did was abhorrent. Also, did they know for sure it was the one responsible for the man's death?

GucciBear · 09/06/2023 18:20

Utterly dreadful behaviour. The shark caught its food. It was not trying to terrorise humans. I am not too surprised though - the way that horses and other animals are treated in the Middle East is truly dreadful. That is why I raise funds for Brooke Hospital.

ClaraThePigeon · 09/06/2023 18:21

Exactly. Going into the sea/ocean brings risks which I assume people are willing to take, sharks are just one more. If you can't accept it then go to your local swimming pool.

They didn’t need to beat it to death.

The story of people who would do this don't worry about technicalities like that. Fucking morons.

If you don't want to get eaten by a shark, don't swim in the sea. If you want to swim in the sea, do so in the knowledge that a creature who lives in the sea might want to eat you. Weigh up the risk and make a decision.

Richvanilla · 09/06/2023 18:25

Jesus fucking christ. I hate this world.

"but the shark killed a human"... It was looking for food, in the place where it normally gets food. It has no idea humans are apparently on the "must not eat list" and it had absolutely no idea WHY it had been dragged out of his home and beaten repeatedly whilst also unable to breathe.

Ah yes, take that shark. Revenge has been served. We really are the worst of worst species on this planet.

dancinginthesky · 09/06/2023 18:26

I'm not enthusiastic about clubbing sharks to death with hammers but in this instance when it just ate a young lad in front of his father and girlfriend I haven't really been too fussed, not the shark's fault it was just being a shark but I probably would've at the very least wanted some remains for burial or cremation had I been the victims parents

Thesunwillcomeoutverysoon · 09/06/2023 18:28

We are at times a revolting species...
