ParkRun and Transgender record breaker

Trans runner (M to F) has smashed a woman’s record. Turns out he’s an attempted murderer too.

He attempted to murder the HR Manager of U.K. Athletics after he investigated his eligibility to compete as a woman. (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lauren_Jeska )

I have enjoyed Parkrun on several occasions with my children, I’ll not be doing it again until they get this sorted. If at all.

Parkrun women's record held by transgender attempted murderer

Feminist activists outraged as it is revealed the fun run record is held by Lauren Jeska, who was given an 18-year sentence in 2017

It's running in a park. You'd stop you and your kids doing something healthy because someone you don't like holds a record in it?! Wow.

I think it’s the wider principle perhaps?
Also pretty sure her kids will still be able to run in the park so no need to worry about their health.

Lockheart · 23/05/2023 23:27

How exactly have they done this when they are currently serving 18 years in prison, and the wikipedia article you link to has a source saying all their running results were declared null and void?

She can still take her children running, which I am sure she will. She is talking about not taking part in an organised event that has allowed someone who was born male to hold the female record.

OP I completely agree with you. Parkrun needs to address this issue.

They have Park Run in some prisons for the prisoners to take part in. Obv not open to the public.

andifeelfine · 23/05/2023 23:32

And how, pray tell, do you expect parkrun HQ to address this? What do you actually want the outcome to be? Go on. I could do with a laugh.

I think you’ve been looking for an anti-trans rant and this is the best you can do. Maybe spend your time more productively?

booksandbrooks · 23/05/2023 23:36

They can still run without attending park run.

They could stop allowing participants to self identify their gender, which would mean that women's records are actually held by women.

WheresSpring · 23/05/2023 23:40

Anyone born as a man should not be competing against anyone born as a woman. They can take part together absolutely, but to compete is unfair due to the scientifically proven physical advantage of sex (assuming they have gone through puberty).

MrsJamin · 23/05/2023 23:41

YANBU, parkrun have put men's feelings above fairness towards women. Women should boycott parkrun, both volunteering (which they do more than men!) and running, until this is resolved.
This man is not the only man who holds a parkrun female record, see Sian Longthorpe at Parke parkrun.
If its just a "run around a park" why do they publish each run's results and stats on each runner saying what their best position is at what parkrun and their best age!/sex grading?
Parkrun know what they can do, they just don't care about women's sports.

saraclara · 23/05/2023 23:42

So you'd cut off your nose to spite your face? And likewise for your children? How would that help anything and who would care? Parkrun is an umbrella organisation. Your Parkrun is organised by local people for local people.

I think it's awful that his time has been logged as a woman's. But you're still being ridiculous, and disadvantaging your kids because of that. In a way he's won then, hasn't he?

saraclara · 23/05/2023 23:43

booksandbrooks · 23/05/2023 23:36

They can still run without attending park run.

But it wouldn't be anything like as much fun.

andifeelfine · 23/05/2023 23:48

Addymontgomeryfan · 23/05/2023 23:39

They could stop allowing participants to self identify their gender, which would mean that women's records are actually held by women.

How would you enforce that? There are millions of registered parkrunners around the world. Given how long parkrun has been in existence, some of those registered athletes are dead. And some never actually run; they only volunteer.

Should parkrun HQ (there aren't actually that many paid staff) go visit millions of people around the world and demand to inspect their genitalia so they can adjust their profiles if necessary?

How should new participants sign up? Do they need to submit some kind of special registration evidence? Well, that's a barrier to participation, and the whole point of parkrun is to encourage as many people as possible to participate, not block them from joining in.

Try again.

Yes, the OP is going to ban her children from running anywhere ever again 🙄

Not if everyone boycotted the event.

You haven't proposed a sensible solution.

parkrun is a charity that aims to widen access to improving physical and mental health, so please suggest something that is sensible and affordable. Unless your goal is for all parkruns to be shut down and for people to have fewer opportunities to exercise.

There are millions of parkrunners already registered, and millions more that parkrun would like to register. How do you keep participation free of barriers and also restrict it in the way you propose? Go on. What's your hassle-free solution?

I believe strongly in female rights, but that doesn't mean I have to hate trans people. Believing in female rights and trans rights are not mutually exclusive things, you know...

I don't hate trans people but i do hate people using such a stupid dog whistle. Keeping men out of women's spaces is not evidence of hate and me n had no right to be there in the first place. I gave a completely sensible solution. Wipe the records of people known to have entered the wrong sex category. Such as this cheat.

EnthENd · 24/05/2023 00:15

Even if they weren't trans they should be excluded for having literally tried to murder an official in their sport! WTAF @ ParkRun organisation.

But it's not a women's space. parkrun is literally a space for anyone over 4 to come along and participate. Men and women don't start at different times. Everyone just sets off together. People of all genders... people with buggies... dogs... wheelchair users... runners, walkers, joggers... it's a free for all.

If you want to wipe times, you really have to review all times - that's a huge undertaking. And how do you go about that? Follow a witch hunt and demand certain individuals provide medical certificates to prove they can keep their course record?

I mean, some people might be outed in the media as trans when they're not. You can't just arbitrarily wipe someone's results because someone said a thing.

She ran at parkrun from 2013 to 2015. She's excluded from running at her local parkrun already by virtue of being in prison.

As it stands, parkrun believes in rehabilitation. They have several closed event parkruns in prisons. (Prisoners run under pseudonyms.)
