Am I ruining the holiday?

DP has not said as much but I just feel bad.

We spent a lot of money on a much needed holiday as we’ve been super stressed - we booked a really remote, hot location with the plan being nothing but sunbathing.
We’ve got here and it’s freezing cold, and it’s expected to be until we leave. I feel gutted because a) we spent a lot of money, b) there’s literally nothing else to do and c) he suggested other locations that I said no to because I have been before, and I should’ve gone for them as they’re really hot right now.

I keep mentioning the weather, DP keeps telling me to “make the most of it”, “it’s done now”, “it’s out of our control” etc but I just hate being cold and there’s literally nothing else to do. He told me off for looking at the weather and told me not to look again. But I just am so annoyed. Also gutted as I packed only dresses.

Also, I really wanted a holiday for us to just get away from everything as we’ve been so stressed. I said let’s just put our phones down for the week, and let’s not talk about anything going on at home that’s stressful, and let’s talk about different stuff, but he keeps scrolling each time I even walk 2 metres away. He said I put too much pressure on the holiday by saying this.
I then got upset during breakfast as he wasn’t really saying much and he said he felt pressured to make conversation. He also said he’d had 3 hours sleep and I wasn’t being understanding.

I just feel like a misery guts but I can’t help but be upset, and I don’t feel like he’s understanding. Am I unreasonable?

I'd be off exploring the ruins but the OP just seems to be unable to cope with disappointment. My option meant she could stay warm in bed and be distracted from social media .... I wonder how young the OP is?

Insert joke here about the similarities between having a lot of holiday sex and ‘exploring the ruins’ Grin

Bit different but also similar. My wedding day cost £12,000. Always pictured getting married outside. We found the most perfect venue, a beautiful old winery with a wonderful pond and arbour that we could get married under and a lovely old stone barn for our wedding meal. Perfect, couldn't wait. Covid then meant we had to postpone our day and change the date 3 times.
Annoying, stressful but eventually our day finally came. The weather had been beautiful the week leading up, wake up on my wedding day and it's absolutely pissing down, there goes the wedding I pictured. No outdoor wedding, no walking barefoot through the grass to the arbour to meet my dh. Nothing I had imagined. Did I care....absolutely not!
Now I know I'm talking about my wedding day, but I'm guessing (could be wrong) that I spent a little more than you have on this holiday. And arguably a wedding day is a bit more of a significant event in someone's life. If I could see past the disappointment of rain on my wedding day, that I had eagerly awaited, and still have the most wonderful day despite the shitty weather and having a completely different wedding than I had planned. I think you can try and enjoy this holiday.
I'm not trying to invalidate your experience, I'm sure it's awful. But in perspective, you're still having some much needed time together, you have a chance to relax. You can make good out of a bad situation!

What ruins should she be exploring? Did she specify where she is? Some people on here have a very limited idea of what Greece, quite a large, very varied and mountainous country, offers as a whole. If the weather is bad, often boat trips don’t run. Resorts rarely sell ordinary day-to-day clothes like jumpers and coats. Sun beds are often piled up out of the rain on the often pebbly beaches, cafes etc might even be closed. Yes, in Greece, or as a rather hysterical previous poster put it, GREECE!

So as I previously suggested, stay in and shag?

girlsyearapart · 19/05/2023 06:07

@ElmTree22 same happened to us ( with the addition of a portaloo and metal fence across the front of the church..)
there’s a saying in French that a rainy wedding equals a happy marriage

Oh, mate.

There is ALWAYS something to do and I'd still like to know how old the OP is. :) I have a theory about age and resilience.

We're in Southern California. Last day of a month's trip. It's been cloudy and grey the WHOLE time, apart from a 3 day trip into the desert. My constant mentioning of the 'awful weather' has driven my DH nuts. I sympathise OP.

Yep, normal for California this time of year unfortunately. My friend lives there. Then there’s the ‘June Gloom’.

Been here!!! It’s literally such a bummer! Had to spend the entire week in my airport outfit! It was just cold wind the whole time…

I read a lot of books - and tbh we threw money at the problem!! Lots of other activities and nice meals out! (We were at a nice all inclusive, but when the pool is a no go, you really run out of things to do super quick 😂)

Everyone has these holidays - just enjoy your time with your husband and then bitch about it when your home 😂 (like I did)

OrigamiOwls · 30/03/2024 21:17

@Flamingos89 the OP's holiday was in 2023... She should be home by now 😂
