Bank holiday rage

If one more person says to me ‘yeah but you’ll get an extra day off’ about working today I am going to lose my shit.

Family group chat have said it over the weekend (they all have office jobs) and then even my DH has said it this morning!

Yes I’ve worked every day this BH weekend. No that doesn’t mean I’ll get an extra day off for the extra BH. That’s not how it works.

I wasn’t resentful about it but I am starting to be with everyone around me telling me how great it is that we ‘all’ get an extra days holiday. And I think many of them are in for a disappointment when they notice that they haven’t got an extra day either, it’ll just come off their annual leave entitlement.

OP posts:

What a twattish comment.

Why is it a twattish comment?
If you don't like it look for a job with better conditions, work 9-5, change things.
Being PA and having "rage" at other people is ridiculous.

But OP wasn't having issue with emoyer.
She waa having issue with people not understanding that ahe is not getting this bank holiday and repeatedly telling her she can just take it some other day😂
The lnly correct thing to suggest here is to look for new family😂

Schroedingersimmigrant · 08/05/2023 11:58

So many bloody typos today

Because OP isn't complaining about her working conditions.

She's pissed off because other people assume they know more about her contract than she does, and keep telling her she'll get things that she knows she won't.

Ducatifan · 08/05/2023 12:08

I don’t get today off, nor do I get the extra day off added to my annual leave. We get 30 days a year, every year including the extra jubilee last year. Normally it doesn’t bother me but for some reason today really has.

Emotionalstorm · 08/05/2023 12:28

I get an extra paid day off. Why shouldn't I be happy about it ?

How is jt Charles's fault people don't understand AL and extra bank holidays🙈

I would have hoped that the cost and implications of the Bank Holiday were pointed out to him. If not why not and if they were, and they still went ahead it's because they don't care about ordinary folk with hardworking lives that fund their privileged existence.

The bank holiday was mandated by the government. Not the King.

Ah the coronation planning consisting of :

"Your majesty, large proportion of nation doesn't have enough knowledge about how leave entitlement works. Should we scrap the BH so they are not even more confused?"

"Confuse the peasants! I don't care"

Not for me-I have got an extra bank holiday. Why haven’t you?

I have an extra bank holiday too but lots of people don’t, there’s no obligation on employers to give extra holidays.

Mumof1andacat · 08/05/2023 13:03

Mu dh could be resentful but due to the bank holiday his rare of pay is about £34 an hour today. He was off the weekend though.

You haven’t been here long, have you?

BrieAndChilli · 08/05/2023 13:27

Holidays etc are something o consider when accepting a new job. My current job gives us 25 days holiday PLUS bank holidays (so jubilee/funeral/coronation have all been extra days off, not taken out of any other allowance) plus we then get our birthday off and 3 days over the Christmas holiday

It’s certainly something I will look at more when I change job.

Soggydog · 08/05/2023 14:13

Ah apologies I didn't realise that it was different to a normal.bank holiday and that only some firms were giving it. Thanks to the HR bod for explaining it in a way I finally got. And yes I would be gutted too.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 08/05/2023 14:15

I’m part time & don’t work on Mondays so I don’t feel the benefit of Bank Hokidays.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 08/05/2023 14:15

Holidays even 🤣

user1497207191 · 08/05/2023 14:16

Hellocatshome · 08/05/2023 08:41

If you work a bank holiday you should get a day off in lieu to use another time. Ask your employers why you haven't.

That depends on your contract of employment and whether it says "x days PLUS bank holidays" or "y days including bank holidays". If you're already on the minimum legal number of holiday days, you'll get an extra day by law for the bank holiday, but if your entitlement already exceeds the legal minimum number of days, then it's up to your employer whether to give you an extra day unless the contract says "plus bank holidays".

No, but you'll get pro-rata days off as part of your annual leave entitlement.

Bargellobitch · 08/05/2023 14:23

It sounds like your current employment terms aren't great. I work in a very poorly paid sector. But we have been given an additional bank holiday day for the coronation. Our levae also includes bank holidays so we can choose to take bank holidays or not, then use them elsewhere. Which I think is good as not everyone wants a bh off.

I'm surprised with an additional bank holiday this year you were not given an extra days leave. It feels quite mean of your employer.

CateringPanic · 08/05/2023 14:26

I’m getting an extra day off on top of what I usually yet, so is DH…
