To think William should have made more effort

To learn that one line pledge to his father? He read from a card looking sideways most of the way through it, and he looked like he was bored and rushing through it. Looked terrible on screen.

I know he's lazy but it wasn't too much to ask for, was it - to memorise that line and at least fake a bit of sincerity?

Looked fine to me. I’d want to have it there too regardless of how much I had practiced - imagine getting it wrong or stumbling from nerves! If there’s anyone who was reading something they should have had memorised, it was the Archbishop reading holy communion!

TeaAndTattoos · 06/05/2023 17:40

Charles was reading off cards too.

Jobhuntings · 06/05/2023 17:41

Honestly, I wouldn't even trust myself remember my own name in front of hundreds of million of people watching from around the world.

YABVU.

FinchHinch · 06/05/2023 17:43

Everyone was reading off cards. Even the archbishop of Canterbury. There was one point where you could see some bloke pointing to the bit on the page he needed to read from!

TeaAndTattoos · 06/05/2023 17:40

Charles was reading off cards too.

I can hardly imagine the stress level for both of them; I'd need a cue card too.

Thepeopleversuswork · 06/05/2023 17:44

FFS. Imagine the pressure of having to do this in front of hundreds of millions of people. Also it’s not like he has a great deal of creative control over it.

I’m not a particular fan but have you really not got anything more interesting to talk about?

Comedycook · 06/05/2023 17:44

Agree. Why were they all reading off cards?! Lazy, privileged useless lot.

Floralnomad · 06/05/2023 17:45

They were all reading off cards , can’t see the issue

Malarandras · 06/05/2023 17:46

There was about 100 million people watching on TV. Damn right he wanted a cue card, like any vaguely sane person in that circumstance.

LlynTegid · 06/05/2023 17:46

His late mother got Charles's full name mixed up, in his shoes I would not wish to make a mistake on such an occasion.

michaelmacrae · 06/05/2023 17:46

It's a pledge, it's meant to be from the heart. I think William could have made more effort, it was just a few words FFS.

TheSnowyOwl · 06/05/2023 17:47

Often people just have cue cards for reassurance and not to read verbatim from them.

Fuckitydoodah · 06/05/2023 17:47

How on earth do you know he's lazy? Kate tell you that when you popped over for a cuppa did she?

The way people think they 'know' stuff is very entertaining.

He looked like someone who knew that at that moment in time, millions of pairs of eyes were on him.

GodSaveTheClean · 06/05/2023 17:48

They were all out on the lash last night; he’s probably knackered. Zara and Mike rolled in at 2am apparently. No wonder Kate’s got bags today!

flumpalamp · 06/05/2023 17:48

Oh shhh ya moaner

DamnAndDashIt · 06/05/2023 17:48

Have they done away with the Royals board?

Anyway, YABU. Under those circumstances, I'd have probably needed a cue card, a name badge and an instruction sheet on breathing in, then breathing out.

Comedycook · 06/05/2023 17:48

It's their job though...they should do it properly. Remember a few lines. Actors manage it all the time.

icelollycraving · 06/05/2023 17:49

You know he’s lazy? Is this opinion formed after a lot of time in his presence.
Yabvu

Hotfootgoose · 06/05/2023 17:49

The nerves would have been terrible on such a world wide televised occasion. I see no harm in using cards at all.

ShandaLear · 06/05/2023 17:49

I imagine he’s mortified, standing there in a giant cloak having to pledge allegiance to his dad like some sort of serf. The whole thing is loopy loo.

the80sweregreat · 06/05/2023 17:50

I'd be reading off cue cards too.
Can't see the problem myself.

Yes, how do you know he's lazy?!

FourTeaFallOut · 06/05/2023 17:51

Bloody hell, the amount of grade-A nit-picking has been something to behold today. I'm not a royalist, I'm sat in the garden reading and mnetting and the whole thing would have passed me by if it were for the incessant whinging and ballaching over nothing.

Comedycook · 06/05/2023 17:52

Oooohhh all the forelock tuggers are out today.

Pathetic.

It's their job. Stop thinking they're doing us a favour.

pilates · 06/05/2023 17:52

How sad to be picking faults at something so trivial.
