To think William should have made more effort

To learn that one line pledge to his father? He read from a card looking sideways most of the way through it, and he looked like he was bored and rushing through it. Looked terrible on screen.

I know he's lazy but it wasn't too much to ask for, was it - to memorise that line and at least fake a bit of sincerity?

😂funny! But you do sound a bit unhappy! Why are you on a website called ‘ Mumsnet ‘ if you don’t have to look after children… is being a mum the only thing you have in your life and even though your kids are grown up and gone you still feel the need to spend hours posting boring opinions on the site Perhaps you need another focus ? Friends perhaps?

ArcaneWireless · 08/05/2023 19:10

I think I get a free pass to waste time as I did a big tray meal.

I am feeding someone else’s bairns and also my parents. So I don’t count.

YANBU! it was one line. Cue card only for back up. He should have learnt 1 line and given King his eye contact. It can't be compared to anyone else as they had loads to say.

I'm going to keep repeating this.

Watch QEII coronation.
Cue cards used by ALL the principals involved.
ALL read the words from the cards.

It appears to be part of the protocols. Another poster read up on it and apparently it got mucked up during Victoria's coronation so reading the exact words from cue cards were deemed essential.

Ahh now you are letting yourself down. You are flouncing off threatening to leave a thread and then returning. Are you new?

BubsysMum123 · 08/05/2023 19:34

😂 I am new ! I joined to get opinion on a school which no one responded to ! I was preparing dinner for my 2 yr old when someone posted about preparing dinner for their 20 yr old!

I'll let you into a secret, @BubsysMum123 - we're different people with different personal lives! True story!

ArcaneWireless · 08/05/2023 19:45

I finished crying in the instant that you left
And I can’t remember when or where or how
But I soon forgot each ill-judged statement you had ever made…

When you post stuff like this
And you chat mince like that
It was gone with a flounce
But its still coming back to me 🎶

Maireas · 08/05/2023 19:49

The posts will go ooooon 🎵🎶

The people posting on here aren't one person with a hundred usernames. Most, like me, pop in when it's quiet, post a few posts, bugger off to pick the kids up from school, and maybe post a few when they're in bed. I have a handy DH so he also does his kid care.

Nevertheless it's pretty grim to say Mumsnet is only for women with small children. It's for everyone who wants,to be here, including ...men!

Perhaps you should learn some manners.

You may or may not have noticed that there are way more topics discussed that small snotty-nosed kids. Posters who joined the site when they did have small children and join discussions that interest them.

I'm here to inform you that you don't cease to be a mum when your kids have grown up.

You do realise there was a stage.

This site has sections on politics, sport, dogs, cats, style etc etc... Oh, and MEN even post on here! GASP!

It isn't just for mums. You seem quite confused. Do you always take things so literally that you think only mums can post on mumsnet? You're embarrassing yourself.

It's a pledge, it's meant to be from the heart. I think William could have made more effort, it was just a few words FFS.

Don’t worry OP, you would have had a lot more interest/ positive votes had you been saying something unkind about Harry but William… oh no… never a foot wrong! 🙄

BMW6 · 09/05/2023 16:32

Wiseoldself2022

So do you think all those who read from cue cards during this coronation and those before were all doing it because they couldn't be bothered to memorise the lines?

You think Prince Philip couldn't be bothered either? 🤔

Maireas · 09/05/2023 16:43

As for the Archbishop reading from his book the whole time.... lazy article.

Coxspurplepippin · 09/05/2023 16:50

Does anyone remember President Obama having to retake the presidential oath because of a single word stumble..............

Yes I remember that. From what I can recall the person who spoke first got the words mixed up and Obama noticed they had mixed up the words. Then they said he retook it as an abundance of caution!

Maireas · 09/05/2023 16:55

Yes, I remember that, and seeing the images of him retaking the oath.

Coxspurplepippin · 09/05/2023 17:36

There was a lot of whinging from some quarters, lots of conspiracy theories Hmm - it was a misstep by the US Supreme Court Chief Justice, President Obama repeated the slightly incorrect phrasing. I hadn't realised but it retaking the oath happened with two other presidents also.

In what way do they work hard? Where's your evidence?
